The new Duotone Unit D/Lab is built to perform at the highest level. Designed to be the lightest, stiffest iteration of the Duotone Unit while delivering all of its famous bottom end grunt, almost effortless power, while being exceptionally easy to handle.
The new Aluula fabric in combination with new Duotone construction features are at the root of the Duotone Unit D/Lab’s success. The Aluula fabric significantly reduces the weight of the new Unit wing by up to 15% compared to the standard Duotone Unit construction (this varies depending on the size of each wingsurfer). This considerable saving really comes into its own in light wind conditions while the increased rigidity delivers in higher wind ranges.
Duotone have been at the cutting edge of winging design from the very start and this desire to innovate has only grown. With the new Duotone Unit the design brief was simple enough; create a wing with very stable drift, with even more lift, that remains to be easily handled with an hand system that offers an almost boom like level of responsiveness and feel. The result is a wing that delivers on all this making it arguably the best free ride wing on the market as well as one that also has the power to deliver on technical free-style manoeuvres.
The new Duotone Unit features a slightly wider span than the outgoing (hugely successful model). This helps ensure great stability when flagging out a on the wave as well as significantly increased hang time when jumping. When increasing wingspan however, there is a balancing act as to not impar the overall size and speed of the wing especially for free style; Duotone and their designer Ken Winner have struck this perfectly and found the sweet spot.
The Duotone team have also increased the segments of the leading edge and panel layout of the new Unit. This has enabled the canopy tension as well as induced twist to be refined and tuned to the desired levels. An all new window layout has also led to weight savings while also ensuring comfort and safety remain paramount. The legacy of the Duotone Unit continues to grow and this wing surfer is a true master piece of design and construction.
