These are specially made for watersports where control over a bar is needed. The mittens are made with open palms for you to be able to be closely connected with the bar and feel every movement. And even though the palms are open you will be able to keep your hands and fingers warm.
For good closure, the mittens have a velcro wrist strap and on the inside is a warm polar inner lining.
