Description
Description
The Red Paddle Co Wild 9'6" is the definitive choice for paddlers looking to master moving water and technical river descents.
Designed specifically for the unpredictable nature of whitewater, the 9'6" Wild offers a unique combination of extreme stability and high-manoeuvrability. While most all-around boards struggle when the flow picks up, the Wild thrives, providing a rock-solid platform that allows you to focus on your line rather than your balance. Whether you are navigating your first rapids or you are an experienced river runner looking for a board that can handle technical drops, this board provides the confidence needed to progress safely.
Where this sits in the Red Paddle Co range
The Wild 9'6" is a specialist shape within the Red Paddle Co line-up. It is significantly wider and has more rockered than the Ride 10'6", making it much more stable in choppy water but slower on flat, still lakes. If your primary goal is cruising on canals or coastal bays, a Ride or Sport model will serve you better. However, if your heart is set on river running, the Wild is the only board in the range built with the specific volume distribution and durability required for that environment.
Why the Wild 9'6" makes sense for river paddling
- Maximum Stability: At 34 inches wide, it provides a massive surface area to keep you upright when the water gets aerated and unstable.
- Enhanced Manoeuvrability: The shorter 9'6" length allows for quick, reactive pivot turns to avoid rocks and navigate tight eddies.
- River-Ready Durability: Built with MSL technology and reinforced rails to handle the inevitable scrapes and bumps associated with shallow river beds.
- High-Traction Deckpad: The deep-groove deckpad ensures your feet stay locked in position even when the board is soaking wet.

Can I use this board for general touring on flat water?
While you certainly can, the Wild isn't designed for it. The high rocker and wide profile mean it lacks the "glide" of a touring board. It will feel slower and require more effort to keep straight on a calm lake compared to a Sport or Voyager model.
Do I need a special leash for river paddling?
Yes. We strongly recommend using a Quick Release Waist Belt when paddling on moving water. Standard ankle leashes can be dangerous in high-flow environments. You can find out more in our Guide to SUP Safety.
How durable is the board against rocks?
The Wild uses Red’s MSL (Monocoque Structural Laminate) construction, which is incredibly tough. While it is highly resistant to punctures and abrasions from river rocks, we always recommend checking the water depth and avoiding sharp, direct impacts where possible.
