Women’s Wetsuits at The SUP Company

Whether you’re paddling, surfing, winging, kiting or kayaking, the right wetsuit makes the whole session better — warmer, more flexible, less faff, and far more enjoyable in real-world UK conditions. This collection brings together our women’s wetsuits across all thicknesses and styles, so you can choose the right suit for the season, your sport, and how cold you personally run.

TL;DR: UK “most-used” suits tend to be 3/2 (late spring–summer), 4/3 (spring–autumn), and 5/4 (winter). If you’re winging/kiting (more wind chill), lean warmer. If you’re SUP/kayak (more movement), prioritise stretch and comfort.

How to choose the right thickness for the UK

3/2mm: ideal for late spring through summer for surfing/SUP/kayak. Great when water temps rise, but you still want protection and comfort.

4/3mm: the “workhorse” thickness for spring and autumn — and often the best single-suit option if you want one suit that covers most of the year.

5/4mm (and hooded options): built for winter, cold snaps, and anyone who feels the cold quickly. Also a strong choice for wing/kite sessions where wind chill is the real enemy.

Chest zip vs back zip (what actually matters)

Chest zip: typically warmer with better sealing and less flushing — popular for winter and windy sports. Entry can be slightly more “technical”, but performance is excellent once you’re used to it.

Back zip: easiest on/off and brilliant for convenience. Modern back zips are far better than they used to be, and they’re still a great choice for paddling, coaching, and everyday use.

Complete your cold-water setup (boots, gloves, changing + care)

The right accessories can add weeks (or months) to your season. If you’re riding through autumn and winter, don’t underestimate boots and gloves — and if you want your suit to last, dry it properly.

Women’s wetsuit FAQs

What’s the best women’s wetsuit thickness for UK waters?

If you want one suit to cover the most days, 4/3 is usually the best starting point. Add a 3/2 for warmer months and a 5/4 (plus boots/gloves) for winter if you’re staying in year-round.

Should I buy chest zip or back zip?

Chest zip is typically warmer and better sealed (great for winter + wind sports). Back zip is easiest on/off (great for convenience, coaching, paddling and everyday use). Both work — it’s mainly warmth vs simplicity.

How should a wetsuit fit?

Snug, like a second skin — no big loose folds, and no painful pressure. You should be able to breathe comfortably and move your shoulders freely. If in doubt between sizes, message us and we’ll guide you based on the brand/model.

Do I need boots and gloves in the UK?

If you’re going beyond summer, usually yes. Boots and gloves can make a bigger difference than adding 1mm of neoprene, especially for wing/kite sessions with wind chill.

How do I make my wetsuit last longer?

Rinse after use, dry out of direct sun, and avoid hanging from the shoulders on a thin hanger. A proper wetsuit hanger helps it dry evenly and reduces stress on seams.
