Which Fanatic board should you choose?

All-round (first board / family board): if you want one SUP that covers most sessions, go for a stable all-round shape like the Fly Air style boards. Great for learning, casual paddles, kids/dogs, and mixed ability use.

Touring (distance + glide): if you’re paddling further or want a more efficient board that tracks straighter, look at touring shapes like the Ray Air range — longer waterline, more glide, less zig-zag.

Faster touring / training: for paddlers who want more pace and efficiency, the Blitz Air style boards are built for speed and glide without feeling twitchy.

Surf SUP: if waves are your thing, Fanatic’s surf shapes (like AllWave and Stylemaster-style boards) are designed to turn properly and feel lively on a face.

Not sure? Tell us your height/weight, where you’ll paddle and what you want to do, and we’ll recommend the right size and shape first time.

Fanatic FAQs

Are Fanatic inflatable paddleboards good for beginners?

Yes — Fanatic’s all-round inflatable shapes are very beginner-friendly when sized correctly. The key is choosing enough width/volume for your weight and typical UK conditions, so you feel stable and progress faster.

Fly Air vs Ray Air — what’s the difference?

Fly Air is the all-rounder: stable, easy and great for general fun. Ray Air is a touring shape: longer and more efficient, tracking straighter and gliding better over distance.

Do I need to upgrade my paddle?

If you paddle regularly, a lighter/stiffer paddle is one of the best upgrades you can make. It reduces fatigue and helps you hold speed — especially on longer paddles or if you’re training.

Can I try a Fanatic board before buying?

Yes — you can book the SUP Test Centre in Southampton and try boards on sheltered water before you commit. It’s ideal if you’re choosing between sizes or upgrading to a faster shape.

What essentials do I need with a board?

At minimum: board, paddle, pump and leash. We also recommend the right fin setup, a board bag for protection, and (for many UK paddlers) a dry bag or waterproof phone case for year-round use.
