Jobe Epix vs Waydoo EVO Lite eFoil: Which Is Right for You?

The Jobe Epix E-Foil and Waydoo EVO Lite eFoil are much more closely related than they first appear.

Underneath the different boards, both packages use a proven Waydoo-engineered electric foil platform built around a 4000W propulsion unit, an 1800Wh battery, a shorter 27-inch mast and the stable G1500 foil wing.

The decision is therefore less about which one has the better motor and more about how you want to learn, transport and progress with your eFoil.

The Waydoo EVO Lite uses a single 90L EPP board and follows the familiar Waydoo modular format. The Jobe Epix takes the same basic electric foiling concept and adds two interchangeable inflatable board sizes, a rigid central core and two included travel bags.

For the right customer, the Jobe package represents a considerable amount of equipment. For another rider, the simplicity and solid feel of the Waydoo EVO Lite will still make more sense.

Expert eFoil advice from a specialist watersports retailer

An eFoil is not simply a board with an electric motor attached. You are choosing a board, battery, propulsion system, mast, front wing, rear wing, remote, charger and a route for future servicing and replacement parts.

The SUP Company is a bricks-and-mortar watersports specialist with physical shops, practical foiling experience and a dedicated wing, foil and electric watersports centre in Lymington.

We can help you consider rider weight, storage, transport, local launch spots, battery charging and progression before you commit to a complete setup.

The quick answer

Choose the Jobe Epix if you want the most versatile overall package, need compact storage, expect several people to use the eFoil or like the idea of starting on a stable 115L board before progressing onto a smaller 80L board.

Choose the Waydoo EVO Lite if you want a straightforward single-board eFoil, prefer a solid EPP board, do not want to inflate a board before riding and want to remain directly within the wider Waydoo EVO modular system.

Choose neither of these packages if your priority is Waydoo’s sensor-based Smart Flight Assistance System. Neither the Jobe Epix nor the EVO Lite includes the flight controller that helps automatically manage ride height. For that technology, you need to consider the Waydoo EVO Pro Plus or EVO Max Plus.

Although the published maximum runtime figures differ slightly, these figures should not be treated as a guaranteed difference on the water. Both systems use an 1800Wh battery and similar 4000W propulsion. Rider weight, speed, temperature, water state, repeated take-offs and throttle use will have a much greater effect on real-world riding time.

What do the Jobe Epix and Waydoo EVO Lite share?

The most important similarity is the electric foil platform beneath the rider.

Jobe has not attempted to develop an entirely new motor, battery and remote system from scratch. Instead, the Epix uses electric components engineered by Waydoo, a company with an established range of complete eFoils, batteries, propulsion units and modular components.

Both packages compared here use:

  • A 4000W standard propulsion system
  • An 1800Wh lithium-ion battery
  • A shorter 27-inch or 69cm mast
  • A stable G1500 front wing
  • A Gliding Tail 320 rear wing
  • A wireless handheld remote
  • A top speed of around 36km/h
  • A complete powered eFoil format that does not require wind or waves

That means neither model has a major advantage in basic power delivery. Both are designed to provide smooth, predictable propulsion rather than the stronger acceleration and higher speeds of Waydoo’s 6000W Plus packages.

The biggest Jobe Epix advantage: two board sizes

The defining feature of the Jobe Epix is its dual-board design.

The package includes a rigid central hardboard section that houses the electric system, together with two interchangeable inflatable outer boards. You receive a larger 115L option and a smaller 80L option in the same package.

The 115L Jobe Epix board

The 115L setup is the board most riders will use for their first sessions. Its extra volume creates a more stable platform before take-off, giving you more time to organise your knees, feet, remote and body position.

Choose the 115L board for:

  • First-time eFoil riders
  • Lower-confidence riders
  • Shared family use
  • Learning starts and throttle control
  • Riders who want the calmest introduction to the Epix

Extra board volume does not remove the need to learn proper foil control, but it makes the period before take-off considerably less frustrating.

The 80L Jobe Epix board

Once you can start consistently, control your speed and manage the height of the foil, the smaller 80L board gives the Epix a more direct and responsive character.

There is less board beneath your feet and the setup feels more compact when turning. This gives you a genuine progression step without immediately buying another complete eFoil.

That is a major advantage for couples and families. One rider can use the 115L board while learning, while a lighter or more experienced rider can use the 80L option.

You can read more about the complete package in our detailed Jobe Epix E-Foil overview.

The biggest Waydoo EVO Lite advantage: simple solid-board construction

The Waydoo EVO Lite takes a more conventional approach. It uses one 90L board made from expanded polypropylene, normally shortened to EPP.

EPP is a lightweight, impact-absorbing foam material. It gives the board a solid platform while remaining more resistant to everyday knocks and scratches than a delicate performance composite board.

The EVO Lite does not need to be inflated. Once the board, mast, propulsion and foil components are assembled, there is no separate pumping stage before entering the water.

Choose the EVO Lite if you:

  • Want one board that sits between beginner stability and progressing performance
  • Prefer the feel of a solid board underfoot
  • Do not want to inflate and deflate the board
  • Have suitable space to store and transport a 90L board
  • Want to stay directly within the modular Waydoo EVO range

The Waydoo EVO platform allows riders to change compatible components such as masts, batteries and wings as their needs develop. Exact compatibility and the effect on warranty or performance should always be confirmed before ordering an upgrade.

Inflatable Jobe Epix or solid Waydoo EVO Lite?

This is the real buying decision.

The Jobe Epix is not a conventional inflatable paddleboard with an eFoil bolted onto the bottom. Its rigid central core carries the important loads and electric components, while the inflatable outer board creates the required volume and shape.

The inflatable format gives the Epix several practical advantages:

  • The board sections pack down for storage
  • It is easier to fit into a car, motorhome, yacht locker or holiday property
  • The softer outer board can feel less intimidating during early falls and clumsy starts
  • You receive two board volumes without storing two full-size hard boards

The trade-off is that the Epix must be inflated and assembled before riding. You also have more individual pieces to organise, rinse, dry and repack.

The Waydoo EVO Lite is bulkier to store, but simpler at the water’s edge. There is no inflatable board section to pump up, and the solid 90L platform gives a consistent, direct feel.

Two included travel bags make the Jobe Epix a strong package

The Jobe Epix includes two practical travel bags: one for the board system and another for the propulsion equipment.

This may sound like a minor detail until you begin transporting an eFoil. The mast, motor, battery, foil wings, charger and board all need to be moved without damaging connectors, sharp foil edges or the inside of your vehicle.

Separating the board and propulsion components also makes the overall package easier to lift and organise.

Equivalent dedicated bags are available for the Waydoo EVO range, but they are normally purchased separately from the core EVO Lite package. When comparing total package value, it is worth allowing for the protection and transport equipment you will actually need.

Neither package includes Waydoo’s LiDAR flight assistance

One important point is that neither the Jobe Epix nor the Waydoo EVO Lite includes Waydoo’s sensor-based Smart Flight Assistance System, sometimes referred to as the Waydoo LiDAR or flight controller system.

This system is designed to help manage flight height and stability through sensors and automatic throttle adjustments. It does not completely ride the eFoil for you, but it can make maintaining a consistent height feel less demanding, particularly during early flights.

On the Epix and EVO Lite, the rider controls foil height manually through speed, weight distribution and board angle. You need to learn to:

  • Build speed progressively
  • Move your weight forwards and backwards
  • Control how high the foil rises
  • React before the front wing breaches the surface
  • Lower the board smoothly when speed changes

Some riders will see that as a disadvantage. Others will prefer learning the underlying foil control skills without electronic altitude assistance.

When should you consider a Waydoo Plus model?

Customers who specifically want Waydoo’s Smart Flight Assistance System should look briefly at the Waydoo EVO Pro Plus or Waydoo EVO Max Plus.

The EVO Pro Plus uses a more responsive 90L board, while the EVO Max Plus uses a larger 130L board aimed at maximum stability, shared use and heavier riders. These packages also use Waydoo’s stronger 6000W performance propulsion.

They are not automatically the correct choice for everyone. The Epix and EVO Lite remain compelling options for riders who want a simpler and more affordable route into the same wider style of electric foiling.

Our complete Waydoo eFoil range guide explains how the different Waydoo packages fit together.

Which is better for a beginner?

For pure first-session stability, the Jobe Epix has the advantage because you can begin on the 115L inflatable board.

The larger platform gives you more stability while kneeling, standing and learning how the remote responds. Once you improve, the included 80L board provides a meaningful progression option.

The 90L Waydoo EVO Lite is still an approachable eFoil, particularly for lighter or more naturally balanced riders. However, it sits between the two Jobe board sizes rather than matching the outright stability of the Epix 115L setup.

Best for nervous beginners: Jobe Epix using the 115L board.

Best for lighter beginners wanting one solid board: Waydoo EVO Lite.

Best for a beginner who specifically wants electronic flight assistance: consider the Waydoo EVO Max Plus or EVO Pro Plus instead.

Which is better for progression?

The Jobe Epix offers the clearest board-based progression because both steps are already included.

You can learn on the 115L board and then change to the 80L board without replacing the battery, motor, mast, foil wings or remote.

The Waydoo EVO Lite progresses differently. You improve your technique on the same 90L board and can then explore compatible mast, battery or foil options within the Waydoo EVO ecosystem.

Choose the Epix if you want a clear beginner-board-to-smaller-board progression path.

Choose the EVO Lite if you are happy with one 90L board and want progression to come through technique and modular component changes.

Which is better for families and shared use?

The Jobe Epix is particularly strong for shared ownership.

The 115L and 80L board options can accommodate different confidence levels more effectively than a single-board package. A less experienced family member can use the larger board, while a progressing rider can move onto the smaller setup.

The included bags and inflatable construction also make sense for holiday homes, yachts, motorhomes and customers who do not have a large permanent storage area.

The Waydoo EVO Lite is the better shared option where the riders are relatively similar in weight and ability and everyone is comfortable using the same 90L board.

What about heavier riders?

Board volume is only one part of eFoil suitability. A larger board may float a heavier rider comfortably, but the propulsion unit still needs enough power to accelerate the complete system onto foil.

Waydoo lists the standard 4000W propulsion used by the EVO Lite with a maximum take-off weight of approximately 90kg. Conditions, technique and equipment configuration can all influence practical performance.

Riders approaching or exceeding this figure should speak to us before choosing either package. A more powerful 6000W Plus configuration may provide a more reliable and less frustrating route onto foil.

Using the Jobe Epix and Waydoo EVO Lite in UK conditions

The shorter 27-inch mast is a sensible choice for many new riders. It keeps the board closer to the water, makes height changes feel less dramatic and can be more practical at shallower launch locations than a longer mast.

It does not make an eFoil suitable for genuinely shallow water. You still need enough depth beneath the mast and foil to avoid striking the bottom, and you must allow for changing tides, submerged objects and the additional depth required as the board pitches.

For UK use:

  • Choose open water away from swimmers, moorings and busy launching areas
  • Check local access rules before using powered equipment
  • Wear a suitable watersports helmet and impact vest or buoyancy aid
  • Use a wetsuit appropriate for the water temperature
  • Rinse the board, mast, foil and propulsion components with fresh water after saltwater use
  • Allow equipment and bags to dry before long-term storage
  • Follow the manufacturer’s battery charging and storage instructions

Cold water, chop, repeated starts, rider weight and heavy throttle use can all reduce the ride time achieved from a battery charge.

Our recommendation

The Jobe Epix is the better overall package for customers who value versatility, storage and shared use.

The combination of a 115L beginner board, an 80L progression board, Waydoo-engineered propulsion and two included travel bags makes it unusually complete. It is especially appealing for families, couples, boat owners and anyone who does not want their first board size to dictate the entire future of the eFoil.

The Waydoo EVO Lite remains the better choice for riders who want one straightforward, solid-board eFoil. It requires less preparation at the water, offers a direct EPP board feel and sits neatly within Waydoo’s modular EVO range.

The core riding performance is closely related. The biggest difference is not the motor or battery. It is whether you prefer the Jobe dual-board inflatable package or the simpler single-board Waydoo format.

Jobe Epix vs Waydoo EVO Lite FAQs

Are the Jobe Epix and Waydoo EVO Lite the same eFoil?

No. They use closely related Waydoo-engineered electric foil components, including a 4000W propulsion system, 1800Wh battery and G1500 foil, but the board packages are different. The Epix includes 115L and 80L inflatable board sections around a rigid core, while the EVO Lite uses one solid 90L EPP board.

Which is easier to learn on?

The Jobe Epix has the advantage for most complete beginners because its 115L board offers more stability before take-off. The Waydoo EVO Lite remains approachable, but its single 90L board is smaller and better suited to lighter, confident or naturally balanced riders.

Why does the Jobe Epix include two board sizes?

The 115L board is designed to make learning easier, while the smaller 80L board provides a more responsive ride once your starts, throttle control and foil height become consistent. It allows the package to support progression without requiring a second complete eFoil.

Do the Jobe Epix and Waydoo EVO Lite include LiDAR flight assistance?

No. Neither package includes Waydoo’s sensor-based Smart Flight Assistance System. Riders control height manually through throttle, speed and weight distribution. The Waydoo EVO Pro Plus and EVO Max Plus are the main alternatives to consider if flight assistance is a priority.

Does the Jobe Epix really pack down?

Yes. The inflatable outer board sections can be deflated for transport and storage. The rigid centre section, battery, mast, propulsion and foil components remain solid, so it is still a substantial technical package, but it requires less space than storing two complete hard boards.

Which package includes transport bags?

The Jobe Epix package includes a board bag and a separate propulsion bag. Dedicated board and propulsion bags are available for the Waydoo EVO system but are normally purchased separately from the core EVO Lite package.

How long will the battery last?

Published figures are approximately 90 minutes for the Jobe Epix and up to around 100 minutes for the Waydoo EVO Lite with the 1800Wh battery. Real-world runtime varies considerably with rider weight, speed, water conditions, temperature, take-offs and throttle use.

Are these 4000W eFoils suitable for riders over 90kg?

Suitability should be discussed before purchase. Waydoo lists a maximum take-off weight of approximately 90kg for its standard 4000W propulsion. Heavier riders may benefit from the stronger 6000W propulsion and larger board options available in the Waydoo Plus range.

Can I try an eFoil before buying?
