Time for an upgrade?
The largest selection of paddles anywhere in the UK… we can help you find your next paddle and make the most of your time on the water.
Stand Up Paddle boarding is a paddle sport. On entering the sport, the focus seems all too often to be on the paddleboard itself rather than the paddle in equal measure – after all without a paddle we are not going to get very far.
Here at The SUP Company we recognize that and not only offer a huge range of paddleboards in our Test Centre but paddles also.
While many SUP packages include a paddle, people quite quickly come to recognise the limitations of the paddle supplied – most likely an Alloy paddle with a Nylon plastic paddle blade. These paddles have their place as they are affordable, get you on the water paddling and give you the opportunity to develop your skills. But it only takes innocently borrowing or trying a friend’s fiberglass or carbon paddle at the beach or river for you to see what you are missing.
Reduced weight is the immediate difference but then you realise that the shaft is much stiffer and more direct… you are traveling quicker and easier than you have before.
You also start to get a feel for how the blade of the paddle is interacting with the water as you catch each stroke. It feels more stable and has less flutter.
The size of the paddle blade may also be different to your own; Starboard and QuickBlade for instance offer a range of different blade sizes and shapes… each requiring different levels of power to get the best from them. Think of it as changing gears on a bicycle and finding that comfortable gear which just feels right and is matched to your leg speed.
That is what selecting the right paddle is also about… finding a paddle that is a match to you. A handle and shaft which fits your hand, a shaft which is stiff enough without being uncomfortable, a paddle blade which is a match to your build and the type of paddling you are doing as well as one which fits your budget. So let us help you – we will listen to your requirements and work with you to find your new paddle.
