The AXIS Pocket Trench is a purpose-built foil board for riders running Foil Drive Gen 2 who want the benefits of an under-deck assist system, without the “bulky trench board” feel. AXIS have engineered a recessed pocket that lets the Foil Drive unit tuck neatly beneath the deck, keeping water flow cleaner, reducing drag, and keeping your stance feeling natural.
If you’re serious about assisted surf foiling, pump sessions, or short-board style riding with Foil Drive, this is one of the cleanest solutions we’ve seen.
Where it sits in the AXIS board range
This is the compact, performance-led option in the AXIS/Foil Drive ecosystem. At 40L, it’s aimed at riders who already know they want a smaller board and a more direct feel.

Is the AXIS Pocket Trench only for Foil Drive riders?
It’s designed specifically around Foil Drive integration. If you’re not running Foil Drive, you’ll usually be better served by a standard AXIS foil board without the pocket system. If you’re unsure, tell us your setup and we’ll point you in the right direction.
Will it work with my Foil Drive Gen 2 system?
Yes – it’s designed to be compatible with Foil Drive Gen 2 systems, including the Gen 2.5 Foil Drive FUSION. If you want us to sanity-check compatibility with your exact parts, just drop us a message.
Is 40L too small for me?
40L is a deliberately compact, performance-oriented volume. It’s best for riders who already know they can manage a smaller board (or who are stepping down). If you want easier starts and more comfort in messy conditions, the AXIS Frank Mini Dart is often the smarter choice.
What’s the real advantage over a full trench board?

Do I need footstraps on this board?
Not always. Many riders go strapless for simplicity, but straps can be useful for control (especially if you’re pushing speed or riding more aggressively). If you want them, the AXIS Foil Board Straps are purpose-built for foiling.
