Description

The Duotone Skybrid SLS 45L 2026 Ex Demo with Footstraps is a compact, high-performance mid-length foil board for experienced riders who want the efficiency and early release of a longer, narrower shape without moving to a full downwind board.

At 5'2" x 18" and 45 litres, this is the smallest Skybrid SLS in Duotone's 2026 range. It combines impressive glide for its size with a compact feel once airborne, making it particularly interesting for lighter riders, advanced wing foilers looking for a low-volume board, and riders using modern efficient foils or foil-assist systems.

This board has been part of our demo fleet and is supplied with Duotone footstraps included. As an ex-demo board it may show light cosmetic signs associated with rigging, transport and use, which is reflected in the reduced price.

Why choose the 45L Skybrid SLS?

  • Compact mid-length shape – more glide and easier acceleration than a conventional short 45L wing board.
  • 2026 refined outline – longer and narrower for improved efficiency and earlier lift onto foil.
  • Only 18" wide – reduces drag through the water and gives a very direct, performance-focused feel.
  • New diamond tail – designed to improve release while increasing clearance during turns and touchdowns.
  • Recessed deck – places your feet closer to the foil for improved connection and control.
  • SLS carbon construction – Biax Carbon PVC Sandwich construction keeps weight down while retaining stiffness and strength.
  • Extended carbon foil tracks – gives plenty of scope for tuning mast position to different foils and riding styles.
  • Footstraps included – particularly useful for riders wanting greater board control, jumping or a more locked-in stance.

Who does the 45L Skybrid SLS suit?

The 45L is very much the performance end of the Skybrid range. Duotone recommends it for riders below approximately 55kg when used as a normally buoyant board, but experienced heavier riders can deliberately choose it as a lower-volume or sinker-style setup.

For a skilled rider, the advantage is that you get a board with enough length to generate glide and accelerate efficiently while still having very little board underneath you once flying. That makes it particularly appealing for powered winging, wave riding, freefly sessions and riders who dislike the swing weight of larger-volume mid-length boards.

If you want the Skybrid concept but need something genuinely stable for standing, starting and slogging home when the wind disappears, we would strongly recommend looking at the larger sizes in the Duotone Skybrid SLS 2026 range.

Why a mid-length rather than a conventional short foil board?

The extra waterline length allows the Skybrid to build speed before the foil is flying. In practical terms, that means less dependence on brute-force wing pumping and less resistance from the board as you accelerate.

For 2026 Duotone has pushed that concept further with a slightly longer and narrower outline. The result is improved glide and take-off efficiency, while the diamond tail and increased rail bevels help prevent the additional length from making the board feel cumbersome once you are carving or touching down.

The 45L is where that combination becomes especially interesting: it has the waterline of a much larger conventional foil board but only 45 litres of volume and an 18" width.

Recessed deck and direct foil control

The recessed standing area reduces the distance between your feet and the foil. This sounds like a small design detail, but on a narrow performance board it makes a noticeable difference to how directly you can control roll, pitch and carving.

The extended carbon US tracks also give plenty of fore-and-aft adjustment, which is useful when matching the board to different foil systems or changing between wing, foil-assist and other foiling disciplines.

Footstraps included

New Skybrid SLS boards are designed with multiple strap options, but straps are not necessarily supplied as standard. This particular ex-demo 45L board is supplied with Duotone footstraps, adding useful value to the package.

Straps make particular sense on the 45L for riders who want better control through powered turns, easier board recovery after touchdowns or a secure connection for jumping. The board can of course also be ridden strapless if preferred.

Wing, parawing or foil assist?

One of the Skybrid SLS's strengths is that it does not lock you into a single type of foiling.

  • Wing foiling: excellent for riders wanting efficient take-offs with a much smaller board beneath their feet once airborne.
  • Freefly and waves: the narrow outline, low swing weight and improved rail clearance work well when the wing is flagged and the foil is doing the work.
  • Parawing: useful where the additional glide of a mid-length helps generate foil speed with less available power.
  • Foil assist: particularly interesting with systems such as Foil Drive or Duotone Foil Assist, where the efficient hull helps reduce the energy needed to reach take-off speed.
  • Prone foiling: the smaller Skybrid sizes can also appeal to experienced riders wanting an efficient alternative to a conventional prone board.

Skybrid SLS or Paradox SLS?

The Skybrid SLS is the more accessible and versatile choice. It has greater stability, good control at speed and the ability to use both front and rear footstraps, making it particularly well suited to wing foiling and riders crossing between several foil disciplines.

The Duotone Paradox SLS takes the mid-length idea further towards parawing and freeflight performance. Its lower rocker and more reduced bottom area prioritise pumping and extremely early release, but it is a more specialist shape and demands more from the rider.

If wing foiling remains a major part of what you do, we would generally steer more riders towards the Skybrid. If your priority is parawing downwind riding and pumping efficiency above everything else, the Paradox becomes the more specialist option.

Frequently asked questions

Are footstraps included with this Skybrid SLS 45L?

Yes. This particular ex-demo board is supplied with Duotone footstraps included.

Is the 45L Skybrid suitable for beginners?

For most riders, no. At 45 litres and only 18" wide, this is a low-volume performance board. A beginner will normally progress significantly faster on a larger Skybrid or conventional wing board with sufficient volume to comfortably support their weight.

Can someone over 55kg ride the 45L?

Yes, but it becomes an advanced low-volume setup rather than a board that will float you comfortably while stationary. Experienced riders often deliberately ride boards well below their body weight, but reliable starts and the ability to manage the board when not foiling become increasingly important.

Why is the Skybrid only 18 inches wide?

The narrow width reduces wetted surface and resistance as the board accelerates. Combined with its 5'2" length, this allows the board to generate speed efficiently before take-off rather than relying entirely on width and volume for stability.

Can I use the Skybrid SLS with Foil Drive or foil assist?

Yes. Foil assist is one of the intended uses of the Skybrid SLS. Its efficient mid-length hull helps the board accelerate with relatively little resistance, while the extended US foil tracks provide useful scope for balancing different foil and assist configurations.

Can the Skybrid SLS be jumped?

Yes. Unlike some more specialist parawing-focused mid-length boards, the Skybrid is designed to work with front and rear footstraps and is suitable for riders who still want to jump and ride powered with the wing.

What does Ex Demo mean?

The board has been used as part of our demo equipment rather than being factory-new. It may therefore show light cosmetic marks from normal rigging, transport and on-water use. The ex-demo condition is reflected in the reduced selling price.
