Description

If you like the idea of covering more water with less effort, the Fanatic Ray Air Pure is one of the easiest ways to get into touring. It’s a proper touring outline (longer waterline and a tapered nose) so it tracks straight and glides efficiently, but it’s still stable and friendly underfoot for everyday paddlers.

In Fanatic’s line-up, the Ray Air Pure is the most affordable touring option – ideal for fitness paddles, canals and rivers, and relaxed coastal exploring when conditions are sensible.

Where it sits in the range

Choose the Ray Air Pure if… you want touring glide on a realistic budget, and you mostly paddle flatwater or calmer days on the coast.

Consider stepping up if… you’re heavier, you want maximum stiffness for longer distances, or you regularly paddle in choppier conditions. That’s where the higher-end builds and narrower “faster” shapes start to earn their keep.

Why choose the Ray Air Pure?

  • Touring glide without the twitchiness – efficient shape, but still reassuringly stable.
  • Tracks straight – less time swapping sides, more time cruising.
  • Ready for adventures – deck bungee for a drybag, jacket, or a lightweight picnic kit.
  • Easy to live with – inflatable convenience, tool-free centre fin, simple pack-down.
  • Great “first touring board” – a genuine upgrade in distance capability vs all-round shapes.

Helpful reading & buying advice

Try it before you buy

If you’re local (or fancy a trip), you can try boards back-to-back at our SUP Test Centre at Woodmill, Southampton. It’s the fastest way to confirm whether the 11’6 or 12’6 feels best for your height, weight and paddling goals.

FAQs

Which size should I choose: 11’6 or 12’6?

11’6 is the easier “everyday touring” choice: stable, manoeuvrable, and ideal if you want a board that’s simple to handle on and off the water.

12’6 is the distance-friendly option: more glide, more volume, and more deck space – great if you’re taller/heavier, want to carry a bit more kit, or like the idea of longer cruises (and the odd small passenger).

Is the Ray Air Pure suitable for beginners?

Yes. It’s a touring shape (so it feels efficient), but it’s not an intimidating race board. If you’re new and want a board that will help you progress into longer paddles, this is a very sensible place to start.

Can I use it on the sea?

Absolutely – plenty of people do. The key is being honest about conditions: touring boards work best when it’s not overly windy or messy. If you regularly paddle in chop or stronger winds, consider stepping up to a more premium construction for extra stiffness and composure.

Does it come with a paddle?

Not by default. You can add a paddle via the dropdown on this product page, or choose from our paddles collection.

What’s the benefit of the deck bungee?

It turns a “paddleboard” into an “adventure board”. Strap down a drybag, a spare layer, a drink, or a lightweight picnic kit and you’ll naturally start paddling further because you’re comfortable and prepared.

Can I try it before buying?

Yes – you can book a session at our SUP Test Centre at Woodmill and compare sizes (and even other touring boards) back-to-back.

Specifications

  • Features

    Tapered nose + longer waterline

This is what gives the Ray its “touring feel”. It helps the board glide further per stroke and hold a straighter line, which is exactly what you want for fitness paddles and exploring.

    Integrated deck net

Perfect for strapping down a drybag or spare layer. It also makes the board feel more “useful” for day trips, not just short spins.

    Diamond-groove deck pad

Comfortable underfoot with plenty of grip, even when the board’s wet.

    Tool-free removable centre fin

Easy setup at the water’s edge. Pop it in, tighten by hand, and go.

    Drop-Stitch Light (single-layer) construction

This is how Fanatic keeps the Ray Air Pure so keenly priced. It’s a great choice for recreational touring and lighter-to-average riders. If you’re pushing longer distances, carrying lots of kit, or you simply want the stiffest feel possible, that’s when it can be worth moving up the range.
