Description

Fanatic Ray Air Pure Touring Inflatable SUP

The Fanatic Ray Air Pure is a brilliant first touring paddleboard for paddlers who want to cover more distance without jumping into a narrow, specialist race board. It has the longer waterline and pointed touring nose you need for better glide and straighter tracking, but it still feels friendly and stable enough for relaxed river, canal, lake and sheltered coastal paddling.

This is the value-focused model in Fanatic’s touring range. It is a very sensible choice if you want a proper branded inflatable SUP with genuine touring ability, but you do not need the cost, stiffness or extra performance of a premium construction board.

Who is the Fanatic Ray Air Pure best for?

  • Paddlers moving on from short all-round paddles into longer cruising
  • Beginners and early intermediates who want a touring shape that still feels stable
  • Fitness paddlers looking for better glide than a round-nosed all-round board
  • Canal, river, lake and sheltered harbour paddlers
  • Buyers who want strong value from a proven Fanatic shape

Who might need something different?

If you are regularly paddling in exposed coastal chop, carrying heavy camping kit, racing, or you are close to the upper end of the rider weight guide and want maximum stiffness, it may be worth looking at a higher-spec touring board. For a faster and sportier Fanatic option, see the Fanatic Ray Air Enduro. For the wider touring category, browse our touring paddleboards.

Why choose the Ray Air Pure?

  • Touring glide without feeling twitchy: the longer shape helps the board travel further per stroke, while the 31–32" widths keep it reassuring underfoot.
  • Better tracking than an all-round SUP: ideal for paddlers who want to stop constantly swapping paddle sides.
  • Practical day-trip layout: the front deck bungee is useful for a dry bag, spare layer or small picnic load.
  • Inflatable convenience: easy to store, transport and pack into the car, van, boat or garage.
  • Great value touring entry point: a strong upgrade if you want more efficiency than a general beginner board.

Size guide

Size Best for Length Width Thickness Volume Board weight Rider weight guide
11'6" x 31" Everyday touring, lighter to average paddlers, easier handling 11'6" / 350.5cm 31" / 78.7cm 6" / 15cm 299L 7.9kg / 17.4lb Up to 110kg / 17st 4.5lb
12'6" x 32" Longer paddles, more glide, larger paddlers or light kit carrying 12'6" / 381cm 32" / 81.3cm 6" / 15cm 339L 9.25kg / 20.4lb Up to 125kg / 19st 9.6lb

Which size should you choose?

Choose the 11'6" x 31" if you want the easier, more manageable option. It is a great choice for lighter to medium-weight paddlers, shorter touring paddles, canals, rivers and anyone who wants a board that still feels straightforward on and off the water.

Choose the 12'6" x 32" if you want more glide, more volume and a more distance-friendly feel. It suits taller or heavier paddlers, anyone carrying a little kit, or paddlers who want to make longer routes feel easier.

Key features in plain English

  • Tapered touring nose: helps the board cut through the water more cleanly than a round-nosed all-round board.
  • Longer waterline: improves glide, so each paddle stroke takes you further.
  • Diamond-groove deck pad: comfortable underfoot with reliable grip when wet.
  • Deck bungee storage: useful for a dry bag, waterproof jacket, water bottle or small essentials.
  • Tool-free removable centre fin: quick to fit at the water’s edge and easy to remove for transport.
  • Drop-Stitch Light construction: keeps the package light, simple and well priced for recreational touring.

Package includes

  • Fanatic Ray Air Pure inflatable paddleboard
  • Fanatic iSUP backpack / board bag
  • Fanatic HP2 pump
  • Fanatic Ray 19.5cm centre fin
  • Board leash

Please note: this package does not include a paddle as standard. You can add a paddle from the product options or browse our SUP paddles. For a good-value match, the Fanatic Carbon Pure 3 Piece Paddle is a sensible upgrade over a basic alloy paddle.

Useful setup advice

The Ray Air Pure is at its best with a light, comfortable paddle and a sensible dry bag setup. If you are planning longer paddles, a lighter paddle will make a bigger difference than many people expect because it reduces fatigue across hundreds or thousands of strokes. You can also browse our waterproof bags and buoyancy aids to complete the setup properly for UK paddling.

Try before you buy

If you are choosing between the 11'6 and 12'6, the easiest way to get it right is to try boards back-to-back at our SUP Test Centre at Woodmill, Southampton. You can compare different touring shapes on sheltered water and get advice from the team before you commit.

FAQs

Is the Fanatic Ray Air Pure suitable for beginners?

Yes, especially for beginners who already know they want to progress beyond short beach paddles. It is more efficient than a typical all-round board, but still stable enough to be approachable when sized correctly.

Should I choose the 11'6 or 12'6?

Choose the 11'6 if you want easier handling and a more manageable touring board. Choose the 12'6 if you want more glide, more volume and better efficiency over longer distances.

Does the package include a paddle?

No. The Ray Air Pure package includes the board, bag, pump, fin and leash, but not a paddle as standard. You can add a paddle from the product options or choose from our SUP paddles collection.

Can I use the Ray Air Pure on the sea?

Yes, in sensible conditions. It is well suited to sheltered harbours, calm coastal paddles and lighter chop. For frequent exposed coastal paddling or strong wind, a stiffer premium board may feel more composed.

Is this better than an all-round paddleboard?

It depends on your paddling. If you want relaxed beach fun, family use and maximum stability, an all-round board may be easier. If you want to paddle further, track straighter and build fitness, the Ray Air Pure is the better shape.

Can I carry kit on the Ray Air Pure?

Yes, the front bungee area is useful for a dry bag, spare layer or small day-trip essentials. It is not designed as a heavy expedition board, but it is practical for light touring.

Can I try it before buying?

Yes. You can book a session at The SUP Company SUP Test Centre at Woodmill, Southampton, and compare boards before choosing the right size.

Specifications

  • Features

    Tapered nose + longer waterline

This is what gives the Ray its “touring feel”. It helps the board glide further per stroke and hold a straighter line, which is exactly what you want for fitness paddles and exploring.

    Integrated deck net

Perfect for strapping down a drybag or spare layer. It also makes the board feel more “useful” for day trips, not just short spins.

    Diamond-groove deck pad

Comfortable underfoot with plenty of grip, even when the board’s wet.

    Tool-free removable centre fin

Easy setup at the water’s edge. Pop it in, tighten by hand, and go.

    Drop-Stitch Light (single-layer) construction

This is how Fanatic keeps the Ray Air Pure so keenly priced. It’s a great choice for recreational touring and lighter-to-average riders. If you’re pushing longer distances, carrying lots of kit, or you simply want the stiffest feel possible, that’s when it can be worth moving up the range.
