Description

The SIC Maui Pistol Whip is a fast, lively performance surfboard for intermediate to advanced surfers who want shortboard response without giving away too much paddle speed or wave-catching ability.

It sits in that useful space between a full high-performance shortboard and something more forgiving. You still get a board that wants to turn, accelerate and surf properly off the tail, but with a wider front hip and well-balanced volume to help you catch more waves and carry speed through softer sections.

Where the Pistol Whip sits in the SIC Maui surf range

In the SIC Maui surfboard range, the Pistol Whip is the one to choose if you already surf with confidence and want a board that feels quick, loose and responsive. If you want maximum durability and easy progression, the SIC Maui Drifter TT is the more forgiving route. If you want more volume, easier paddling and a broader wave-catching platform, the SIC Maui Pick Pocket is worth comparing. If you prefer a longer, smoother, more traditional surf feel, the SIC Maui Swindler is the better match.

Choose the Pistol Whip when you want the board to feel alive under your feet, generate speed easily and still give you enough forgiveness to make the most of real-world surf rather than perfect, glassy conditions only.

Why choose the SIC Maui Pistol Whip?

  • Ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers who want speed, flow and tighter turns
  • Wider front hip helps the board paddle in earlier and link softer wave sections
  • Swallow tail gives a clean pivot point through turns without making the board feel twitchy
  • Five-fin FCS II setup lets you tune the board as a thruster, quad or twin-style setup
  • Lightweight rigid composite construction gives a responsive, connected feel on the wave
  • A good choice for surfers wanting more wave count without stepping into a much larger board

Package includes

  • 1 x SIC Maui Pistol Whip Surfboard

Please note: fins are not included. The Pistol Whip uses a 5 x FCS II fin box setup, so you will need compatible surf fins before use. For a simple thruster setup, see the FCS M-5 Thruster Set. We also recommend adding a suitable surf leash, such as the Moloko Straight Surf Leash, if you do not already have one.

If you are still comparing options, browse our full SIC Maui collection or view all surfboards at The SUP Company. The Pistol Whip is the performance shortboard option, the Pick Pocket adds more wave-catching forgiveness, the Drifter TT is the more durable progression board, and the Swindler is better for longer, smoother surfing lines.

FAQs

Is the SIC Maui Pistol Whip suitable for beginners?

Not really. The Pistol Whip is best for intermediate to advanced surfers who already have confident take-offs, can trim along the wave and are starting to turn with purpose. A beginner would usually be better on something longer, wider and more forgiving.

Which size SIC Maui Pistol Whip should I choose?

Go smaller if you are lighter, surf regularly and want the most responsive feel. Choose one of the larger sizes if you want more paddle speed, more float and better usability in softer UK waves. As a general guide, the 5'6" and 6'0" suit lighter or more confident surfers, while the 6'4" and 6'10" give extra volume and easier wave entry.

Are fins included with the Pistol Whip?

No. The board is supplied without fins, so you will need to add a compatible FCS II fin setup. This is useful if you already have fins, or if you want to choose a setup that suits your surfing style rather than paying for a basic set you may later replace.

Can I ride the Pistol Whip as a thruster or quad?

Yes. The five-fin box layout gives you options. A thruster setup gives a familiar all-round feel, a quad setup adds speed and drive, and some surfers may also experiment with a twin-style setup for a looser ride.

Is the Pistol Whip good for UK surf?

Yes, for the right rider. The extra width through the front half helps it carry speed and connect sections, which is useful in softer UK beach-break conditions. It is still a performance surfboard though, so it suits surfers who want responsiveness rather than maximum stability.

Should I choose the Pistol Whip or the Pick Pocket?

Choose the Pistol Whip if you want a shorter, faster, more performance-led board with a sharper turning feel. Choose the Pick Pocket if you want easier paddling, more forgiveness and a board that helps maximise wave count while still being fun to turn.

Specifications

  • Features

Wider front hip and stinger tail

The Pistol Whip carries extra width forward of the tail, which helps with paddle speed, early entry and flow across flatter parts of the wave. The pulled-in tail then gives the board a much more precise turning point, so it does not feel like a high-volume cruiser once you are up and surfing.

    Swallow tail design

The swallow tail helps the board hold through turns while still releasing cleanly. In real terms, that means you can surf it with confidence off the back foot, push through a carve and redirect without the board feeling sticky.

    High-performance bottom and three-stage rocker

The refined bottom shape and rocker line are designed to create speed, liveliness and control. This is what gives the Pistol Whip its ability to link sections and stay responsive rather than simply feeling like a wider, easier shortboard.

5 x FCS II fin box configuration

The five-fin box setup gives you plenty of tuning options. Run it as a thruster for a familiar, balanced feel, as a quad for extra speed and drive, or experiment with a twin-style setup if you want a looser ride. Fins are not included, so you will need to add a suitable fin set before heading into the water.

    Rigid composite construction

The Pistol Whip uses an EPS core with glass epoxy construction and a wood stringer, giving it the light, lively feel you want from a performance surfboard while still keeping enough structure for confident, everyday use.
