Description

The Starboard Pro is the sharp end of Starboard’s surf SUP range — built for paddlers who already know how to surf a SUP and want a board that reacts instantly when the wave gets steeper, faster, and more critical.

For 2026 it lands in a lighter-weight Limited Series build with a refined brushed carbon finish, keeping the feel lively underfoot and responsive through tight turns.

Where It Sits in the Range

If you’re choosing between Starboard’s key surf SUP shapes, here’s the simplest way to get it right:

  • Choose the Pro if you prioritise precision, speed and bite in the pocket — and you’re happy to trade a bit of “easy-mode” stability for performance.
  • Choose the Spice if you want a more forgiving outline that still rips, especially for mixed UK conditions: Starboard Spice Surf SUP 2026
  • Choose the Longboard for glide, trim and classic style (and if you love cruising into waves early): Starboard Longboard Surf SUP 2026
  • Choose the Whopper if you want maximum stability, easy wave-count and a bigger platform (great for heavier riders and messy days): Starboard Whopper Surf SUP 2026
  • Want a looser, twin-fin feel? Have a look at: Starboard Twin Fin Surf (Limited Series)

Why Choose the Pro

  • Fast, tight turning — designed to snap and redirect quickly when the section stands up.
  • Confident in late drops thanks to the drawn-in nose and performance outline.
  • Drive without feeling stiff — rails and rocker are tuned to hold and accelerate through critical turns.
  • Fin versatility with a 5-fin layout so you can tune grip vs speed depending on wave type.
  • Light, direct feel from the 2026 Limited Series Acute Carbon build (noticeable in rail-to-rail transitions).

Helpful Reading & Buying Advice

Try Before You Buy

If you’re on the fence between sizes (or deciding whether the Pro is the right level), the fastest way to get it right is a side-by-side demo. You can book a session at our Woodmill SUP Test Centre and we’ll help you dial in the best size and setup for your local waves.

FAQs

Is the Starboard Pro too advanced for me?

If you’re already comfortable surfing a SUP (bottom turns, cutbacks, stepping back into turns), you’ll love it. If you’re still learning to catch waves and stay stable in chop, you’ll progress faster on a more forgiving shape like the Starboard Spice.

Which size should I choose: 7'10, 8'2 or 8'7?

7'10 (104L) is the most reactive and “shortboard-like” option for lighter/advanced riders. 8'2 (115L) is the sweet spot for many experienced surf-SUP riders who want performance without feeling twitchy. 8'7 (130L) suits heavier riders, winter wetsuits, or anyone who wants the Pro feel with a bit more comfort in UK chop.

Can I run a quad setup?

Yes — the Pro has a 5-fin layout so you can tune it. Thruster gives control and predictable drive; quad can feel faster and more responsive down the line.

Does it come with fins, leash or a bag?

This listing is for the board. If you want us to recommend (or bundle) the right fins, leash and a proper travel bag, send us a message and we’ll spec it properly for your local waves.

Can I demo it before buying?

Yes — book in at our Woodmill SUP Test Centre and we’ll help you compare sizes and models so you leave with the right board (and the right setup).

Specifications

  • Features

    Performance Thin Rails
Ultra-thin rails reduce swing weight through the nose, increasing pivot speed and responsiveness. Fuller rails through the midsection maintain momentum, while thinner tail rails deliver increased bite and control through critical turns.

    Narrow Nose Outline
A refined, narrow nose fits deep into the pocket of hollow waves, reducing the risk of catching during fast, aggressive manoeuvres. The drawn-in rail line allows precise line selection and confident commitment on late, steep drops.

    Deck Shape
A predominantly flat deck enhances comfort and stability in choppy conditions, helping conserve energy over long sessions. The deck transitions into a subtle dome as the rails thin for added performance.

    Bottom Shape
A single concave generates lift and speed, flowing into a double concave through the midsection and finishing with a slight vee at the tail for smooth, controlled rail-to-rail transitions.

    Squash Tail
The versatile squash tail offers reliable hold across a wide range of wave conditions, particularly excelling in larger, more powerful surf.

    Rail Shape
Sharp rail edges extend from the tail to just forward of the fins, creating a strong, positive edge for grip and control through turns. Ahead of the fins, the rails soften and roll to promote smooth transitions and sustained speed.

    Rocker Curve
A moderate nose rocker prevents catching on steep drops and during aggressive turns. The flatter midsection enhances speed, while a refined tail kick unlocks quick, snappy turns and effortless rotation.

    Fin Options
The 5-fin configuration supports both 4+1 and 2+1 setups, allowing riders to fine-tune performance for different wave types and styles. Updated fin angles increase front fin splay for manoeuvrability while reducing rear fin angle for added drive. All models are supplied with a thruster setup, with quad mode delivering an even faster, more responsive feel.
