Description

Duotone Flow SUP

The Duotone Flow SUP is a hard composite paddleboard for paddlers who want one board that feels relaxed, stable and smooth, but still has enough surf character to stay interesting as their skills improve. Inspired by a classic Malibu longboard outline, it sits between all-round flat-water paddling and small-wave SUP surfing, making it a strong choice for UK and European conditions where sessions are often a mix of cruising, chop, glide and fun waves.

This is not a short, technical surf SUP that only works in clean waves. The Flow is designed to be more forgiving. The rounded nose helps with early wave entry and flat-water glide, the fuller mid-section gives confidence underfoot, and the refined tail lets you carve and pivot without needing expert-level technique. It is ideal for paddlers who want a board that encourages progression rather than punishing every mistake.

If you are moving on from an inflatable SUP and want a more connected hard-board feel, the Flow is a sensible and enjoyable step. It gives you better response, cleaner glide and more natural rail feel than an inflatable, while staying approachable enough for regular all-round use.

Who is the Duotone Flow best for?

  • Paddlers wanting a hard SUP for flat water, coastal cruising and small to moderate waves.
  • Improving SUP surfers who want easy wave catching and a smooth longboard-style ride.
  • All-round paddlers who value stability, glide and comfort over aggressive shortboard-style performance.
  • Riders upgrading from an inflatable SUP who have storage space and roof-bar or van transport sorted.
  • Experienced paddlers who enjoy trimming, carving and flowing rather than constantly attacking the wave.

Who might prefer something else?

The Flow is a great all-round hard SUP, but it is not the obvious choice if you want a narrow race board, a long touring board for covering big distances, or a compact performance surf SUP for steep, critical waves. For faster distance paddling, browse our touring paddleboards. For more dedicated wave shapes, compare it with our surfing paddleboards. If storage and transport are your main concerns, an inflatable paddleboard will be easier to live with.

Shape and on-water feel

The Flow has a wider rounded nose to help it pick up glide early. On flat water this gives it an easy, efficient feel for relaxed cruising. In waves it helps the board catch softer sections earlier, which means more opportunities and less frantic paddling.

The volume is carried through the centre of the board, giving it the settled feel that makes a longboard-style SUP enjoyable. You can stand comfortably, move your feet, trim along the wave and build confidence without feeling as if the board is constantly trying to roll away from you.

At the tail, Duotone has kept the outline refined enough for carving. The Flow is not about ultra-snappy, shortboard-style surfing. It is about drawing a line, trimming with speed and leaning into longer turns. For many real-world SUP surfers, especially in softer UK waves, that is exactly what makes a board fun.

CUSTOM CNC construction

The Duotone Flow is built using Duotone’s CUSTOM CNC composite construction. In plain English, that means a lightweight EPS core is precision-shaped by CNC, then wrapped in a composite-wood sandwich layup to create a board that feels lighter, more direct and more responsive than an inflatable.

The benefit on the water is simple: better glide, cleaner acceleration and a more connected feel underfoot. If you have only paddled inflatable boards before, this is one of the biggest differences you will notice. The board reacts more immediately to paddle strokes, foot pressure and rail engagement.

Complete your setup

For the best experience, pair the Flow with a suitable SUP paddle, a straight surf leash if you are using it in waves from our SUP leash collection, and a protective composite board bag for transport and storage. We would also strongly recommend SUP rail tape on a new hard board to help reduce paddle marks and keep the rails looking smart.

Buying advice from The SUP Company

The Flow makes most sense for paddlers who want a genuine hard-board upgrade without jumping straight into something too technical. It gives you the rewards of composite construction — better glide, more response and a cleaner surf feel — but with enough width and volume to keep sessions relaxed and enjoyable.

Choose the 10'0" x 29" if you are lighter, confident and want the liveliest feel. Choose the 10'0" x 30" if you want the most balanced option. Choose the 10'6" x 31" if you are heavier, newer to hard boards or want the most forgiving platform for mixed flat-water and wave use.

If you are unsure which size is right, speak to our team or visit the SUP Company Test Centre at Woodmill. Hard-board sizing is worth getting right, especially if you are moving across from an inflatable SUP.

FAQs

Is the Duotone Flow a beginner paddleboard?

It can suit confident newer paddlers, especially in the wider 10'6" x 31" size, but it is best thought of as a progression-friendly hard SUP rather than a first-time inflatable package. You will need storage, transport and a little more care when handling it on land.

Is the Duotone Flow good for waves?

Yes. The Flow is designed for small to moderate waves and longboard-style SUP surfing. It catches waves easily, trims smoothly and turns in a controlled, flowing way. It is not a highly technical short surf SUP for steep, critical conditions.

Can I use the Flow on flat water?

Yes. The Malibu-style outline gives the Flow useful glide and stability for relaxed flat-water paddling, estuaries, harbours, lakes and coastline cruising. If your main aim is long-distance touring, a longer touring board will track and glide more efficiently.

Which size should I choose?

As a guide, choose 10'0" x 29" if you are up to 80kg and want the most responsive feel, 10'0" x 30" if you are up to 90kg and want the best all-round balance, or 10'6" x 31" if you are up to 115kg or want maximum stability.

Does the Duotone Flow come with a paddle or leash?

No. The Flow is supplied as a board with its fin set. Paddle, leash, board bag and rail protection are separate unless specifically included in a bundle or product option.

Should I use a coiled or straight leash with the Flow?

For flat-water paddling, many paddlers prefer a coiled leash because it stays tidier. For surf use, a straight leash is usually the better choice because it gives the board more room to move away from you after a fall.

Is a hard SUP better than an inflatable?

A hard SUP normally gives better glide, acceleration, rail feel and response. An inflatable is easier to store, transport and travel with. The Flow is best for paddlers who can manage the practical side of owning a hard board and want the improved on-water feel.

Can I get advice before choosing a size?

Yes. Send us your height, weight, current board, experience level and where you plan to paddle. The SUP Company team can help you choose the right Flow size or suggest an alternative if another board would suit you better.
