Description

If you regularly leave your board, kayak or canoe on the roof while you grab a coffee, head into the shop, or stop on the way to the water, the KanuLock Tie Down Straps are one of the smartest transport upgrades you can make. They work like normal roof straps, but with a big difference: they lock, and they are reinforced with braided stainless-steel cables to help deter opportunistic theft.

For paddleboarders, surfers and paddlers who travel with valuable kit, these straps sit well above a standard pair of tie-downs. They are ideal for anyone who wants more peace of mind when their gear is on the car, without complicating the loading process or adding bulky hardware.

Why choose KanuLock straps?

  • More security when you stop off – ideal for beach cafés, service stations, shops and day-trip parking.
  • Works like a normal tie-down strap – no awkward system to learn, just load, tension and lock.
  • Steel cable reinforcement – designed to stop the strap simply being sliced through with a knife.
  • A better option for premium boards and kayaks – especially useful if you regularly carry expensive SUPs, surfboards or paddle kit.
  • Less hassle than removing your boards every single time – handy when you are making short stops between home and the water.
  • Available in multiple lengths – so you can choose the right size for one board, multiple boards, wider SUPs or larger craft.

Where these sit in the range

If all you need is a basic strap to get from A to B, a standard tie-down will do the job. The KanuLock straps are for paddlers who want that extra layer of reassurance when the vehicle is unattended for short periods. They are not about replacing sensible security habits, but they are a very worthwhile upgrade if you transport a board regularly and do not want to rely on ordinary webbing straps alone.

In simple terms, if your board setup is valuable enough that you would worry about leaving it strapped to the roof outside a shop or café, these are the straps to choose.

Choosing the right length

The right size depends on what you carry and how many items you load at once.

  • 2.5m / 8ft – a compact option for smaller loads, surfboards and some narrower setups.
  • 3.3m / 11ft – a very good all-round choice for carrying one paddleboard.
  • 4.0m / 13ft – better suited to two boards, wider SUPs or larger craft.
  • 5.4m / 18ft – ideal where you need extra reach for bigger loads, multiple boards, larger kayaks or canoes.

If you are unsure which size makes the most sense for your vehicle and board setup, get in touch and we will happily point you in the right direction.

Helpful reading & buying advice

If you are updating your transport setup, it is also worth browsing our Roof Straps & Pads collection and our wider Transport Accessories collection for rack pads, carry straps and other travel essentials.

Are KanuLock straps worth it over standard roof straps?

Yes, if you regularly leave your board on the roof while making short stops. They still work like normal straps, but the added lockable buckle and cable reinforcement make them a much better choice for valuable paddleboards, surfboards and kayaks.

What size KanuLock strap should I choose for one paddleboard?

For most single SUP setups, the 3.3m version is the safest all-round starting point. If you are carrying multiple boards, a particularly wide board, or a larger kayak or canoe, stepping up to 4.0m or 5.4m usually makes more sense.

Can these straps be cut with a knife?

The straps are reinforced with braided stainless-steel cables and are designed so they cannot simply be cut through with a knife like a standard webbing strap. They are built as a theft deterrent for real-world transport use.

Can I use these for kayaks and canoes as well as SUPs?

Yes. They are suitable for paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks, canoes and other roof-rack loads, as long as you choose the correct strap length for the width and overall load size.

Do they replace common-sense security?

No. They are an excellent deterrent against opportunistic theft, but we would still recommend parking sensibly and avoiding leaving valuable kit unattended for long periods whenever possible.

Specifications

  • Features

    Lockable buckle system
Once tensioned, the buckle can be locked with the supplied key. That means someone cannot just walk up, undo the buckle and remove your board in seconds the way they could with a standard roof strap.

    Stainless-steel cable reinforced webbing
Inside the straps are braided stainless-steel cables. In real-world use, that gives you a much more secure strap that is designed to resist being cut with a knife.

    Simple day-to-day use
One of the nice things about KanuLock is that it does not feel like a complicated security product. You use it much like a normal pair of roof straps, so it is easy to fit into your normal loading routine.

Useful across more than just SUP
These are a great option for paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks, canoes and other roof-rack loads where extra security matters.
