Description

The Starboard 12 ft 6 Touring Lite Tech - 2026 is a proper hard touring paddleboard for paddlers who want cleaner glide, straighter tracking and a more connected feel on the water than an inflatable can usually offer. It is the sort of board that makes sense when you have moved beyond a basic all-round shape and want longer paddles to feel easier, smoother and more efficient.

This is the sort of board that is worth choosing carefully, because the right shape can make paddling feel easy and rewarding, while the wrong one can feel hard work from day one.

Where it sits in the range

This sits on the more distance-focused side of the Starboard range. Compared with an iGO-style all-round board, a Touring shape gives you more glide and straighter tracking. If you mainly want short, casual family paddles, go broader and more all-round. If you want easier mileage and more efficient flat-water paddling, this is the smarter choice.

Why choose the 12'6 Touring Lite Tech?

Who is this board best suited to?

12'6 Touring Lite Tech makes the most sense for paddlers whose priorities match its shape and intended use. If you want help getting the right size or deciding between this and another Starboard model, our honest advice is to compare the options before buying rather than guessing.

Is this a good first board?

That depends on the exact shape. Some Starboard boards are confidence-building first purchases, while others are more specialised and reward a bit more experience. If you are unsure, ask us and we will tell you plainly whether this is the right fit or whether another model would make the learning curve easier.

Can I try before I buy?

Yes. If you are choosing between sizes, shapes or constructions, our Woodmill SUP Test Centre is one of the best ways to get the decision right first time. It is particularly helpful with Starboard boards because the differences between models are very noticeable on the water.

Specifications

  • Features

Race-inspired touring shape: the Touring shape takes influence from Starboard’s race boards, which helps it carry speed cleanly and feel efficient over distance. That matters when you want a board that keeps moving rather than feeling like it needs constant correction.

Thin slicing nose: the nose shape helps the board enter the water cleanly, reduce splash and keep the glide feeling smooth in light chop and boat wash.

Deeper recessed standing area: standing slightly lower in the board improves stability and control. In practice, that means the board feels calmer and more planted than a tall, boxy shape of a similar length.

Straight deep channel and swept-back fin: these work together to help the board hold its line better, so you can take more strokes on one side before swapping. That is exactly what most paddlers want from a touring board.

Boxy rails with chamfered edges: this helps reduce roll and improve stability without making the board feel slow or dull.

Lite Tech construction: Starboard’s Lite Tech lay-up is all about giving you a lighter, tougher and more affordable composite build. It uses reinforcement in key impact areas and extra rigidity features to keep the board feeling solid on the water.

Adventure-ready details: you get front storage capability for carrying kit, inserts for the optional Starboard Shoulder Strap, and an included Starboard Board Sock for day-to-day protection. Please note that the Lite Tech version does not include rear bungee inserts.
