Description

If you want a race paddle that feels smooth, stable and efficient over real-world UK distances (not just a few hard sprints), the Starboard Velocity is built for exactly that. The blade has a clean, low-disturbance catch and a “zero-flutter” feel, so you can hold a higher cadence without your shoulders getting battered. It’s a premium, fixed-length carbon paddle for paddlers who care about speed and longevity.

Where the Velocity sits in the Starboard paddle range

Velocity is Starboard’s “go-long” race blade: efficient, low impact, and confidence-inspiring in messy water. If you’re racing technical courses, accelerating hard off the line, or you simply like a more aggressive catch, the Lima is typically the punchier choice.

  • Choose Velocity if you want: long-distance efficiency, a calmer catch, less flutter, and a blade that stays smooth when the water gets lumpy.
  • Choose Lima if you want: sharper bite and more “explosive” feel for sprint/tech racing. Shop Starboard Lima Prepreg Carbon Paddle (Oval) – 2025

Why paddlers choose the Velocity

  • Smoother catch, less strain: the thin blade tip enters cleanly with minimal disturbance, so each stroke feels calmer and more repeatable.
  • Zero-flutter feel: winglets reduce turbulence at the blade tips, keeping the stroke stable even when you’re tired.
  • Efficient over distance: a high-aspect profile that rewards a good cadence and helps you maintain speed without forcing it.
  • Proper race build: prepreg carbon construction for low weight and crisp power transfer.

Blade size & setup guide (M / L / XL)

Blade size is one of the quickest ways to make a paddle feel “right” (or completely wrong). As a simple starting point: lighter paddlers and higher cadence styles tend to suit M, most regular racers sit happily on L, and XL is for bigger paddlers or anyone who prefers a heavier load per stroke.

Size Area Blade (L x W) Typical feel
M 83 in² / 534 cm² 20.9" / 53.3 cm x 6.3" / 16 cm Higher cadence, lighter load, great for longer sessions
L 88 in² / 567 cm² 21.1" / 53.7 cm x 6.7" / 16.9 cm Most popular “race all-rounder” size
XL 95 in² / 612.4 cm² 21.2" / 54 cm x 7.2" / 18.4 cm More load per stroke, suits bigger paddlers / power styles

Shaft option guide (F35 Skinny vs F40)

Option What it feels like Best for
F35 Skinny A slightly more responsive flex with a smaller oval grip Taller paddlers using longer lengths, smaller hands, high-cadence distance styles
F40 A touch more “forgiving” through the stroke Paddlers wanting lower body impact and a smoother feel over long sessions

Cut-to-length & build service

This is a fixed-length performance paddle. If you’d like it built to your exact height and paddling style, we offer a cut-and-build service (£20 per cut). We use hot glue, so it can be adjusted in future if you change discipline or simply want to fine-tune the length. (Once cut, it’s treated as a customised item.) If you’re unsure on sizing, our SUP Paddle Buying Guide keeps it simple, or just call us on 02380 172189.

FAQs

Is the Velocity better than the Lima?

They’re aimed at slightly different feels. Velocity is the smoother, lower-impact choice for distance and ocean-style paddling, where efficiency and comfort matter. Lima is usually the pick for paddlers who want a more aggressive bite and punchier acceleration for sprint/technical racing.

Which blade size should I choose (M / L / XL)?

As a quick rule: M suits lighter paddlers and higher-cadence styles, L is the sweet spot for most racers, and XL is best for bigger paddlers or anyone who prefers more load per stroke. If you’re between sizes, choose based on how your shoulders cope: smaller blades are often kinder for longer sessions.

What’s the difference between F35 Skinny and F40?

F35 Skinny gives you a smaller oval grip and a slightly more responsive feel (popular with taller paddlers running longer lengths and anyone who likes a fast cadence). F40 is a touch more forgiving through the stroke and is a great shout if you want lower body impact over long paddles.

Is this paddle adjustable?

This model is a fixed-length performance paddle. You set it once (cut to your preferred length) for the most direct, race-style feel.

Can you cut and build it to my length before shipping?

Yes. We offer a £20 cut-and-build service per cut, using hot glue so it can be adjusted in future if needed. If you’re not sure on length, start with our SUP Paddle Buying Guide and give us a ring for a quick sense-check.

Does it come with a cover?

Yes — it includes a Starboard paddle sock to protect the blade and shaft from dust, scratches and UV when stored or transported.
