Description

The Duotone Crest D/LAB Front Wing is one of the most interesting foils in the current Duotone range because it sits right in the sweet spot between glide, speed carry and proper surf-led turning. If you want a front wing that links sections easily, pumps efficiently and still feels lively rather than locked-in when you bank it over, this is the one to look at.

Its natural home is prone foiling, but the Crest D/LAB also makes a huge amount of sense for wave winging, wake, foil assist and, in the bigger sizes, light-wind, parawing and SUP/downwind-style riding. It is the foil for riders who want that flowing, connected feeling on the water rather than a pure top-speed or race-led setup.

Where the Crest D/LAB Sits in the Duotone Range

The easiest way to understand the Crest is this: it gives you more glide and easier linking than the Carve, but it feels more playful, looser and more surfy than the Glide.

Choose the Crest D/LAB if you want:

  • More wave connection and less drag than a tighter, more aggressive surf foil
  • More manoeuvrability and a more natural carving feel than a longer-glide specialist foil
  • One premium front wing that works across prone, wing, wake and foil assist

If your priority is the sharpest, tightest and most aggressive turning style, the Duotone Carve 3.0 D/LAB is the stronger fit. If your priority is maximum pump efficiency, longer flights and more drawn-out glide, the Duotone Glide 2.0 D/LAB is the better direction. If you want the all-round performance foil that feels easiest to love in real-world riding, the Crest is arguably the smartest choice in the range.

Why Choose the Duotone Crest D/LAB Front Wing

  • Fast without feeling demanding – it carries speed cleanly but does not feel like a specialist-only foil
  • Excellent wave connection – easier to keep linking sections and stay on foil between bumps
  • Surf-led turning – smooth, intuitive carves with a freer feel than a more locked-in glide foil
  • Broad use range – prone, wing, wake and foil assist all make genuine sense here
  • Forgiving for a performance foil – smooth recovery from breaches, touchdowns and dynamic transitions
  • Premium D/LAB feel – very light in the hands, very crisp under load, and impressively direct through turns

What’s New: 550 and 1200 Sizes

The Crest range is now broader and much better defined at both ends.

550 gives experienced riders a smaller, faster and more serious option for powered sessions, bigger surf and higher-speed riding. It is the most performance-led Crest in the lineup and makes the most sense for advanced foilers who already know they want less drag, more speed and tighter arcs.

1200 does the opposite job. It opens the Crest platform up for much earlier lift, lighter wind, easier starts and bigger-water glide. If you want Crest handling but need more support for light-wind winging, parawing or SUP/downwind-style riding, this is the missing size that makes the range much more complete.

Which Size Should You Choose?

550 – the specialist end of the range. Best for advanced riders, high wind, bigger surf and maximum speed with Crest handling.

675 – for lighter riders or powered conditions where you want a fast, lively and highly reactive feel.

800 – the sweet spot for a lot of good riders. Fast, loose, efficient and often the size that best shows what the Crest is really about.

925 – the easiest all-round size in the range. A great option if you want a little more low-end lift without losing the Crest’s speed and flow.

1050 – ideal for bigger riders, lighter wind and easier take-off, while still keeping the Crest’s efficient, connected feel.

1200 – the earliest-lifting Crest. Best for light-wind winging, parawing, SUP/downwind crossover and riders wanting more support without moving into a very draggy-feeling foil.

Helpful Reading & Buying Advice

Is the Crest D/LAB better than the Carve or the Glide?

It depends what you want from the foil. The Crest sits between them. It has more glide and easier linking than the Carve, but a looser, more playful and more surf-led feel than the Glide. For a lot of riders, that makes it the most versatile high-performance choice in the Duotone range.

Who should choose the new 550 size?

The 550 is for experienced riders who know they want the fastest, smallest and most performance-led Crest available. It suits high wind, more powerful surf and riders who want the foil to feel very quick, very free and very low-drag.

What does the new 1200 size add to the range?

The 1200 makes the Crest much more useful in lighter wind and easier-start conditions. It is the best option in the lineup if you want the Crest’s carving and glide character but need more lift for marginal winging, parawing or downwind-style use.

Which tail works best with the Crest D/LAB?

If you want more glide, more flow and a more planted feel for swell or prone use, the MonoBloc Tail S D/LAB is the more natural partner. If you want the setup to feel faster, cleaner and more reactive, especially for winging or foil assist, the MonoBloc Tail PX D/LAB is usually the better call.

Is the Crest D/LAB mainly a prone foil?

Yes, that is where its character makes the most obvious sense, but it is by no means limited to prone. It also works very well for wave winging, wake and foil assist, and the bigger sizes open the door to lighter-wind and downwind crossover use too.

Is the Crest D/LAB a good first foil?

For most complete beginners, there are easier and more forgiving options. The larger Crest sizes are more accessible than the smaller ones, but this is still a performance-oriented front wing aimed more at progressing and experienced riders than true first-timers.

Can I demo Duotone foils before buying?

Yes. If you want help narrowing down Crest vs Carve vs Glide, or working out the right size and tail pairing, booking a session through The SUP Company Test Centre is a very smart way to avoid buying the wrong setup.

Specifications

  • Features

    Moustache-Style Curvature with Upturned Tips
This is a big part of what gives the Crest its character. It helps the foil feel agile and responsive in turns, but also more forgiving when things get lively. The result is a foil that feels quick to roll over without becoming twitchy or nervous.

    Broad Speed Range
The Crest is happy across more conditions than many riders expect. It can carry speed in better surf and powered sessions, but it still holds onto usable lift and glide when conditions soften off. That is why it works so well as a crossover foil.

    Wave Connectivity and Efficient Pumping
This is one of the Crest’s biggest selling points. It keeps momentum well, links sections cleanly and gives you that feeling of staying in the run rather than constantly fighting to keep the foil alive.

    Fluid Re-Entry
A good foil is not just about peak performance when everything is perfect. The Crest also feels calm and recoverable in messy moments, whether that is a little tip breach, a foil slide or a touch-and-go landing.

    Low-Drag D/LAB Construction
Duotone’s D/LAB build keeps swing weight low and stiffness high, so the foil feels more immediate and precise under your feet. It accelerates cleanly, feels crisp when pumping, and gives more confidence when you start pushing harder.

    Deep Tuning Options
The Crest runs with all Duotone D/LAB tails, S and PX stabilisers, and the latest one-piece MonoBloc Tail S D/LAB and MonoBloc Tail PX D/LAB. That means you can tune the setup for more glide, more looseness, more speed or a more planted feel depending on how and where you ride.
