Description

Starboard All Star 14'0 (2025) – the “real-world water” race board

The Starboard All Star is one of the most proven all-water race shapes in SUP – built for the conditions most of us actually race in. If your local scene includes chop, sidewind, beach starts, buoy turns and open-water texture, the All Star keeps you fast, composed and in control when it gets messy.

Watch our 2025 All Star review

Where it sits in the Starboard race range

  • All Star = all-water confidence (chop, ocean, technical courses, bumpy river racing).
  • Sprint = flatwater specialist for maximum speed when it’s properly clean: Starboard Sprint 2025.
  • Gen R = the “one-board quiver” bridge between flatwater pace and open-water usability: Starboard Gen R 2025.

Why choose the All Star?

  • Open cockpit control to keep you locked-in and confident when the water turns lumpy.
  • Predictable stability for technical racing, beach starts and sprint finishes.
  • Fast in imperfect conditions – not just on glassy, “demo day” water.
  • Proper size choice (23–28”) so you can prioritise speed or security based on your balance and local conditions.

Key features (plain English)

Open cockpit deck: a lower standing height makes the board feel calmer in chop, and the cockpit walls give you something to brace against when you’re driving hard upwind or punching through sidewash.

Rounded tail with efficient release: designed to stay quick through transitions and buoy turns, while still releasing cleanly when you put the power down.

Adjustable 10" race fin box: lets you tune the feel – more tracking for straight-line grind, or loosen it up for technical courses and messy water.

Construction options

Blue Carbon Sandwich is the premium pick if you want the best blend of low weight, stiffness and durability. Blue Carbon is the value-led route to the same proven All Star shape.

Which width should you choose?

If you race in side-chop or confused water, most paddlers are quicker overall on the width they can stand and sprint on – not the narrowest option on paper.

  • 14'0" x 28" (71.1cm) – 80–110kg riders, or anyone prioritising stability; most forgiving in rougher water.
  • 14'0" x 26" (66.0cm) – up to ~105kg; the classic “do most races” width; strong balance of speed + confidence.
  • 14'0" x 24.5" (62.2cm) – up to ~95kg with solid race balance; fast and lively, needs good footwork.
  • 14'0" x 23" (58.4cm) – up to ~85kg advanced racers; pure speed focus, least forgiving.

Helpful reading & buying advice

Try before you buy (Woodmill, Southampton)

If you want to get the width choice right first time, book a session at our SUP Test Centre and we’ll help you compare sizes and dial in fin setup and feel. It’s the simplest way to avoid buying a board that’s “fast on paper” but hard work in your local conditions.

FAQs

All Star vs Sprint vs Gen R – which should I buy?

If most of your paddling is true flatwater racing, the Sprint is typically quicker. If you regularly deal with chop, wind, beach starts and technical courses, the All Star is the more consistent “fast in real life” option. If you want one board that bridges both worlds, the Gen R is the smart middle ground.

Will an All Star feel tippy?

It depends mainly on width and your race balance. Most paddlers are quickest on the width they can sprint on in chop. If your water isn’t consistently flat, going slightly wider often delivers better race times and a far better training experience.

What width should I choose for UK racing?

As a starting point: 28" for maximum confidence, 26" for the best all-round race balance, 24.5" if you’ve already got good race footwork, and 23" for advanced racers chasing top-end speed. If you tell us your weight, experience and local water, we’ll point you at the best option.

What’s the difference between Blue Carbon and Blue Carbon Sandwich?

Both give you the same All Star shape. Blue Carbon Sandwich is the premium build for riders who want the best blend of stiffness, low weight and durability. Blue Carbon is the value-led option if you want performance without pushing to the very top construction.

Does it come with a fin and board protection?

Yes – it includes a Starboard Flash Carbon Race Fin (Flash / Flash+ depending on size) plus a Starboard Board Sock for day-to-day protection.

Can I use the All Star for fitness paddling or light touring?

You can, but it’s a race board first. If you want storage, comfort and relaxed stability for longer adventures, a touring board is usually the better tool. If you enjoy a “race feel” and want a fast training platform that rewards good technique, the All Star is brilliant motivation.

Can you help with fin choice and fin-box position?

Absolutely. Tell us your typical conditions and what the board feels like under power (tracking vs looseness) and we’ll recommend a fin and box position to match your stroke and course style.
