More Sizes Added to the Starboard Twin Fin Surf SUP Range

The Starboard Twin Fin Surf SUP has quickly become one of the most talked-about surf paddleboards in the Starboard range, and for good reason.

It is fast, loose, lively and properly fun on a wave. It gives SUP surfers that classic twin-fin feeling of speed and release, but with enough paddle-in stability and volume to make it work in real UK surf conditions.

We have now added more sizes to the range, making it much easier for riders to choose the right board without having to jump too far up or down in volume.

What Has Changed?

The big news is the addition of two really useful in-between sizes:

  • 8'0" x 29" / 112L
  • 8'6" x 31" / 134L

These sit neatly between the existing sizes and make the Twin Fin range much more complete.

The 8'0" gives riders a bit more comfort and stability than the 7'9", while still keeping the board compact and responsive.

The 8'6" gives more stability than the 8'3", especially in choppier line-ups, but without moving all the way up to the 8'9". For a lot of UK SUP surfers, that could be the sweet spot.

Why the Starboard Twin Fin Has Been So Popular

The Starboard Twin Fin is not trying to be a traditional all-round surf SUP. It is designed for riders who want speed, flow and a looser feel off the tail.

The twin-fin set-up helps the board generate speed quickly and release more freely through turns. That makes it feel skatey, fast and easy to redirect, particularly on softer waves where a more locked-in board can start to feel sluggish.

For UK surf, that matters. We do not always get perfect, powerful, clean waves. Quite often we are dealing with softer sections, wind-affected faces and variable conditions. A board that can carry speed and keep flowing through those sections is a proper advantage.

Where the Twin Fin Sits in the Starboard Surf SUP Range

The Twin Fin sits in a really interesting place within the Starboard surf SUP line-up.

Choose the Starboard Twin Fin if you want a board that feels fast, loose and playful, with a surfboard-style twin-fin character.

Choose the Starboard Spice if you want a slightly more versatile performance surf SUP with a more planted feel and broader fin-set-up options.

Choose the Starboard Pro if you want the most technical, performance-focused surf SUP and are happy to trade away some forgiveness for sharper turns and more precision.

Choose the Starboard Longboard if you prefer glide, trim, flow and more traditional longboard-style surfing.

Current Starboard Twin Fin Size Range

Size Volume Best For
7'9" x 28" 103L Lighter riders, confident intermediates and advanced SUP surfers wanting the most compact feel.
8'0" x 29" 112L A new in-between size for riders wanting more comfort than the 7'9" without jumping to the 8'3".
8'3" x 30" 125L A strong all-round size for many intermediate UK surf SUP riders.
8'6" x 31" 134L A new middle-ground option for more stability in chop while keeping a responsive feel.
8'9" x 32" 150L Bigger riders or anyone wanting more glide, stability and wave count.
9'0" x 33" 166L The most forgiving size in the range for maximum stability and easier paddling.

Which Starboard Twin Fin Size Should You Choose?

As a general rule, choose the smallest size you can stand on comfortably in the conditions you actually surf.

A smaller board will feel quicker, more responsive and easier to throw around on the wave. A bigger board will give you more stability, easier paddling and a higher wave count, especially when it is choppy or inconsistent.

Best for lighter or more advanced riders

The 7'9" and 8'0" are the sharper choices. The new 8'0" is especially useful because it gives that compact Twin Fin feel without being quite as demanding as the 7'9".

Best all-round Twin Fin choice

The 8'3" remains a key size for many riders. It gives a good balance of paddle stability, volume and proper surf performance.

Best new UK-friendly middle size

The 8'6" is the size that will make a lot of sense for real-world UK conditions. It gives extra comfort over the 8'3", but still keeps the board feeling lively and surf-focused.

Best for bigger riders or maximum wave count

The 8'9" and 9'0" give more glide, more stability and easier paddling. These sizes are ideal if you want the Twin Fin feel but do not want to be fighting the board between waves.

Why These New Sizes Matter

Surf SUP sizing is not just about rider weight. It is also about ability, balance, local conditions, wave type and how much performance you want from the board.

Before these added sizes, some riders were caught between choices. The jump from 7'9" to 8'3", or from 8'3" to 8'9", could feel a little too big. These new sizes smooth that out.

That means more riders can now choose a Starboard Twin Fin that properly matches how and where they surf.

Our Take

The Starboard Twin Fin is one of those boards that makes a lot of sense once you understand what it is trying to do.

It is not the safest choice if you simply want one general-purpose paddleboard. It is a surf SUP for riders who want to make waves more fun.

For intermediate and advanced paddlers who already surf, or who are moving on from a more traditional all-round surf SUP, it gives a really exciting step forward. The new 8'0" and 8'6" sizes make that step easier to get right.

That is the key point here. More sizes mean better fit, better progression and a board that is more likely to suit your actual surfing.

FAQs

What new sizes have been added to the Starboard Twin Fin?

The key new additions are the 8'0" x 29" at 112L and the 8'6" x 31" at 134L. These give riders more accurate choices between the existing sizes.

Is the Starboard Twin Fin suitable for intermediate riders?

Yes, provided you choose the right size. It is performance-focused, but it is not as demanding as a full competition surf SUP. The larger sizes make it more accessible for intermediate riders wanting to progress.

Should I choose the 8'0" or the 8'3" Twin Fin?

Choose the 8'0" if you want a more compact and responsive feel but need more stability than the 7'9". Choose the 8'3" if you want a more forgiving all-round size with extra glide and confidence.

Should I choose the 8'6" or the 8'9" Twin Fin?

Choose the 8'6" if you want extra stability over the 8'3" while keeping the board responsive. Choose the 8'9" if stability, glide and wave count are more important than keeping the board compact.

Is the Starboard Twin Fin good for UK surf?

Yes. Its ability to generate speed and carry flow through softer sections makes it well suited to typical UK surf, where waves are often smaller, weaker or less consistent than ideal.

How does the Twin Fin compare with the Starboard Spice?

The Twin Fin feels looser, faster to release and more skatey. The Spice is more versatile and more planted. Choose the Twin Fin for speed and flow; choose the Spice if you want one board to cover a broader mix of waves.

Does the Starboard Twin Fin come with a paddle or leash?

The Twin Fin is a board-focused surf SUP package. We recommend adding a proper surf leash and a suitable composite board bag if you are transporting or storing the board regularly.
