Description

If you want a surf SUP that feels quick down the line and loves smooth, skate-style turns, the Starboard Twin Fin is a brilliant choice. It’s built around that classic twin-fin glide and release, but with modern SUP surf stability where you need it – so you can paddle in, generate speed, and stay playful even when the waves aren’t firing.

On our racks it’s the board we point people towards when they’re choosing between the more demanding Starboard Pro 2026 and the more “do-it-all” Starboard Spice 2026 – the Twin Fin sits right in the sweet spot for flow, speed and fun.

Where it sits in the Starboard surf range

Choose the Twin Fin if… you want something fast and lively that holds speed through cutbacks and feels loose underfoot without being twitchy. It’s a great step-up for riders who’ve outgrown “big and cruisy” boards and want a board that encourages proper rail-to-rail surfing.

Choose the Pro instead if… you’re chasing the most vertical, high-performance feel and you’re happy to sacrifice a bit of forgiveness for razor-sharp turning. See: Starboard Pro 2026.

Choose the Spice instead if… you want high performance but with a more forgiving, versatile outline for a wider range of conditions. See: Starboard Spice 2026.

Want maximum stability and wave count? Have a look at the Starboard Whopper 2026.

Why choose the Twin Fin?

  • Faster down the line: the twin-fin style encourages speed generation and smooth projection.
  • Skatey, flowing turns: brilliant for carving, cutbacks and that “release” feeling when you want it.
  • More forgiving than a full-on comp shape: confidence-inspiring without feeling bulky.
  • Works in real-world UK surf: stays lively in weaker waves, but still feels composed when it’s punchier.
  • Two construction options: go tough-and-daily with Limited Series or go ultra-light with Acute Carbon.

Construction options (don’t skip this bit)

Limited Series: the everyday performance build. Light, responsive, and built to handle regular use – ideal if you want a surf SUP you’re happy to travel with, throw in the van, and paddle often.

Acute Carbon construction: this is the “wow” option. It’s noticeably lighter in the hands and underfoot, which makes the board feel more reactive in transitions and quicker to respond when you step back. If you’re chasing maximum performance (or you just want the lightest Twin Fin possible), this is the pick.

Which size should I choose?

As a simple starting point, choose the smallest board you can stand on comfortably in choppy line-ups. More volume = easier paddling and more wave count; less volume = faster response and a more “shortboard” feel.

  • 7'9" x 28" (103L): the most performance-focused feel for lighter riders or confident intermediates/advanced surfers.
  • 8'3" x 30" (125L): a brilliant all-rounder size for most riders wanting speed + stability.
  • 8'9" x 32" (150L): extra glide and stability for bigger riders or anyone prioritising wave count without losing the Twin Fin feel.
  • 9'0" x 33" (166L): the most forgiving option here – great if you want easy paddling, stability and flow.

FAQs

Is the Twin Fin suitable for intermediates?

Yes – it’s one of the most confidence-inspiring “performance” shapes in the range. You get speed and looseness, without the super-demanding feel of a pure competition outline.

Limited Series or Acute Carbon – which should I choose?

If you want a board you’ll use a lot and travel with, Limited Series is a brilliant all-round build. If you want the lightest, most responsive Twin Fin (especially for quicker transitions and tighter surfing), Acute Carbon is the upgrade.

What size should I buy?

Start by choosing the smallest volume you can stand on comfortably in typical line-up chop. More volume gives easier paddling and stability; less volume gives quicker response and a more “shortboard” feel. If you tell us your height, weight and where you surf, we’ll happily recommend a size.

Can I use it on flat water too?

You can paddle it out and cruise around, but it’s a surf shape first and foremost. If you want a true crossover for touring + surf, look at something like the Starboard Generation.

What should I buy with it?

At minimum: a proper surf leash. If you’re transporting it regularly, add a composite board bag to keep the rails and nose protected.

Specifications

  • Features

Twin-fin drive & release: twin boxes paired with a board that’s designed to build speed easily, then “let go” cleanly when you push through a turn. The result is a surfier feel that rewards good footwork and rail engagement.

Hip + channelled tail = instant acceleration: the hip behind the fin boxes helps the board pivot into an arc, while the channelled tail helps it carry speed and release smoothly out of turns – ideal when you’re linking sections.

Rails tuned for speed and control: fuller rails forward help you carry speed and stay forgiving on entry; thinner rails towards the tail reduce swing weight and make tighter turns feel easier.
