The AXIS Foil Base Plate is the board-mount connection piece for AXIS aluminium mast setups on foil boards with twin US tracks. It is one of those parts that is easy to overlook, but absolutely central to getting an AXIS foil feeling solid, direct and properly put together on the water.
If you are replacing a worn part, rebuilding an older AXIS setup or piecing together a foil from individual components, this is the part that connects your mast securely to the board while still allowing sensible fore-and-aft adjustment. Choose the version that matches your mast thickness: 16mm Mast or 19mm Mast.
Within the AXIS range, this is the right option for riders using an AXIS aluminium mast on a plate/track-mount board. If your board has a Tuttle or Deep Tuttle box instead, you will want the AXIS Mast Tuttle Head Adaptor. If you are running an AXIS carbon mast, this is not the part you need.

How do I know whether I need the 16mm or 19mm version?
Match the base plate to the AXIS aluminium mast you already own. If your mast is 16mm, choose the 16mm version. If your mast is 19mm, choose the 19mm version. If you are unsure, it is worth checking before ordering, as this is a fit and compatibility decision rather than a performance upgrade choice.
Will this fit an AXIS carbon mast?
No. AXIS carbon masts use a different integrated connection and do not use this base plate in the same way. This product is for AXIS aluminium mast systems.
Is this the right part for a Tuttle box board?
No. If your board has a Tuttle or Deep Tuttle box, you need the AXIS Mast Tuttle Head Adaptor instead. The AXIS Foil Base Plate is for twin-track / US box foil boards.
What does the base plate actually change on the water?
Its main job is not to change the character of the foil, but to make sure the board-to-mast connection feels secure and properly aligned. That matters because a tight, stiff setup feels more predictable under your feet and gives you cleaner feedback through the foil.
Why is the sliding-end design useful?
It makes setup and pack-down easier. In practical terms, it means you can loosen the board bolts and remove the plate more easily, rather than fully undoing everything each time.
