Description

The AXIS Freeride Stabiliser Rear Wing is the rear wing to choose when you want your foil to feel easier, calmer and more predictable on the water. If you are building a setup for wing foiling, SUP foiling or wind foiling and you want early confidence rather than a super twitchy, highly tuned feel, this is the AXIS rear wing family that makes the most sense.

Within the AXIS rear stabiliser range, Freeride sits on the accessible, confidence-building side of the lineup. It is designed to give you easy lift, reassuring stability and smooth, dependable turning. That makes it a brilliant choice for newer foilers, riders using larger front wings, or anyone who wants a setup that feels settled rather than demanding.

Where the AXIS Freeride Rear Wing sits in the range

If you are unsure which AXIS rear wing to go for, Freeride is the sensible place to start. Compared with the AXIS Progressive Rear Stabiliser Wing, it feels more forgiving and less performance-focused. Compared with the AXIS Speed Stabiliser Rear Wing, it offers more lift and stability, with less emphasis on outright speed and efficiency.

In simple terms, choose Freeride if you want your foil to help you along rather than constantly challenge you. It is especially well suited to progressing wing foilers, SUP foilers who want dependable pitch control, and wind foilers looking for a balanced, easy-to-manage ride.

Why choose the AXIS Freeride Stabiliser Rear Wing?

  • Easy lift and confidence – helps the whole foil setup feel more supportive and less intimidating.
  • Stable, predictable ride – ideal if you want smoother take-offs, calmer touchdowns and less drama in choppy water.
  • Progression-friendly tuning – a smart rear wing for beginners and improvers, especially with larger front wings.
  • Smooth turning feel – carves cleanly without making the foil feel loose or nervous.
  • Useful across disciplines – well suited to wing foiling, SUP foiling and wind foiling.

Choosing the right size

  • 370 / 80 Freeride – the loosest and most playful option here; a good choice for more confident riders who still want the forgiving Freeride feel.
  • 390 / 80 GAP Freeride – a nice middle ground with a little extra glide and cruising ease, while still feeling stable and predictable.
  • 400 / 90 Freeride – balanced and versatile; ideal if you want a dependable all-round size for everyday wing or SUP foil use.
  • 440 / 90 Freeride – the most confidence-building option in this range; excellent for progression and larger front wing pairings.

Helpful reading & buying advice

Who should choose the AXIS Freeride Stabiliser Rear Wing?

Choose Freeride if you want your foil to feel supportive, predictable and easy to manage. It is the best fit for beginners, improvers, riders on bigger front wings, and anyone who values stability over outright speed.

Which size is best for learning to wing foil?

For most riders, the 440 / 90 Freeride is the easiest place to start. It gives the most confidence and is the strongest option in this range for early progression and calm, predictable handling.

What is the difference between Freeride, Progressive and Speed?

Freeride is the forgiving, easy-lift option. Progressive moves towards a looser, more surfy and performance-oriented feel. Speed is the lower-drag, faster option for riders who want more glide and efficiency once they are already comfortable on foil.

Does the AXIS Freeride rear wing come with screws?

No. The wing includes its padded protective cover, but mounting hardware is not included. If you need fresh hardware, add the AXIS Stainless Steel Screw Set.

Will it fit my AXIS foil setup?

It is an AXIS rear stabiliser, but AXIS has used different foil generations and hardware standards across the range. If you are mixing older and newer parts, it is worth checking compatibility with us before ordering so we can make sure you get the right rear wing for your fuselage and front wing.

Specifications

  • Features

Wider chord design: the Freeride series uses a broader chord than AXIS’s faster, more performance-led tails. On the water, that means a more settled feel under your feet, a little more support through take-off, and a rear wing that does not feel too technical too soon.

Designed for progression: this is the rear wing family many riders will get on with immediately. It is particularly good if you are still refining your pumping, improving your jibes, or simply want a foil that makes learning feel easier rather than harder.

Smaller sizes loosen the ride up: while the whole Freeride family keeps that reassuring character, the smaller sizes feel quicker and more playful. So you can stay within the same rear wing family as your riding improves, without jumping straight into a much more specialist stabiliser.

440/90 as the confidence pick: if you are learning to wing foil on a larger AXIS front wing, the 440/90 is the obvious starting point. It offers the most planted, supportive feel in this range and is a very easy size to recommend to riders who want simplicity and stability.
