In SUP surfing, paddle construction is not just about weight. It affects how quickly the paddle responds, how cleanly the blade catches, how much power transfers into the board and how tired your arms and shoulders feel after repeated take-off attempts.
Carbon paddles are popular because they can be light, stiff and responsive. That makes them well suited to surf paddling, where quick acceleration and fast blade placement matter more than relaxed cruising.
The trade-off is that very stiff paddles can feel more demanding. If you are lighter, recovering from shoulder issues or surfing in choppy, tiring conditions, a slightly more forgiving shaft or smaller blade may be the better choice.
