Description

If you want a surf SUP that feels fast, loose and genuinely fun on a wave, the Starboard Twin Fin is a very easy board to get excited about. It takes the speed and release of a classic twin-fin surfboard and builds it into a modern SUP surf shape, giving you glide, stability and paddle-in confidence without losing that skatey, flowing feel once you are on the wave.

This is the board we would point riders towards when they want something livelier than a traditional all-round surf SUP, but not quite as demanding as a pure high-performance competition shape. It sits neatly between the more forgiving Starboard Spice Surf SUP and the sharper, more technical Starboard Pro Surf SUP, making it a strong choice for intermediate and advanced riders who want speed, flow and a looser tail.

Now Available in More Sizes

The Starboard Twin Fin size range now includes two useful in-between options: the 8'0" x 29" at 112L and the 8'6" x 31" at 134L. These fill the gaps perfectly for riders who previously sat between sizes, making it easier to choose the right volume without jumping too far up or down the range.

The 8'0" gives extra comfort over the 7'9" while keeping a compact, responsive feel. The 8'6" gives more stability than the 8'3" without moving all the way to the 8'9", making it a really useful size for UK surf, choppier line-ups and riders who want longer sessions without feeling over-boarded.

Where the Twin Fin Sits in the Starboard Surf Range

Choose the Twin Fin if you want a board that generates speed easily, holds flow through flatter sections and feels loose enough to carve, slide and redirect without having to force every turn. It is especially appealing in real-world UK surf where waves are often smaller, softer or less predictable than we would ideally like.

Choose the Starboard Pro instead if you want the most precise, vertical and competition-focused feel, and you are happy to trade away some forgiveness for sharper performance.

Choose the Starboard Spice instead if you want a more versatile performance surf SUP with a slightly more planted feel and a wider range of fin set-up options.

Choose the Starboard Longboard if you want a more traditional longboard-style surf SUP feel with glide, trim and nose-riding potential rather than a fast, loose twin-fin style.

Why Choose the Starboard Twin Fin?

  • Fast down the line: the twin-fin set-up and channel tail help the board carry speed through weaker sections.
  • Loose, flowing turns: ideal if you like drawn-out arcs, cutbacks, high-line surfing and a more skate-style feel.
  • More forgiving than a full competition board: a great step-up for riders who want performance without going too narrow too soon.
  • Works well in UK surf: lively in smaller waves but still composed enough when the conditions improve.
  • Improved size choice: the added 8'0" and 8'6" sizes make it easier to fine-tune stability, volume and responsiveness.
  • Two construction options: choose Limited Series for everyday value and durability, or Acute Carbon for the lightest, most responsive feel.

Which Size Starboard Twin Fin Should I Choose?

As a starting point, choose the smallest size you can stand on comfortably in the conditions you actually surf. Less volume gives a quicker, more responsive feel. More volume gives easier paddling, better stability and a higher wave count, especially in choppy UK line-ups.

  • 7'9" x 28" / 103L: the most performance-focused option in the current SUP Company size run. Best for lighter riders, confident intermediates and advanced surfers who want a compact, lively board.
  • 8'0" x 29" / 112L: the new in-between size for riders who like the idea of the 7'9" but want a little more comfort and stability without jumping up to the 8'3".
  • 8'3" x 30" / 125L: the key all-round size for many UK riders. A strong balance of stability, wave count and proper Twin Fin performance.
  • 8'6" x 31" / 134L: the new middle-ground option for riders who want more stability than the 8'3", especially in chop, but still want a noticeably more responsive board than the 8'9".
  • 8'9" x 32" / 150L: a great option for bigger riders or those who want more glide, stability and confidence while keeping the fast, loose Twin Fin feel.
  • 9'0" x 33" / 166L: the most forgiving size in the range. Best for maximum stability, easier paddling and riders who want to prioritise wave count without moving away from a surf-focused shape.

Recommended Add-Ons

FAQs

Is the Starboard Twin Fin suitable for intermediate riders?

Yes, provided you choose the right size. The Twin Fin is performance-focused, but it is not as unforgiving as a full competition surf SUP. The wider and higher-volume sizes make it accessible for intermediate riders who want to progress into faster, looser turns.

What changed with the new Twin Fin sizes?

The range now includes 8'0" x 29" at 112L and 8'6" x 31" at 134L. These are important in-between sizes, giving riders more accurate choices rather than forcing a jump from 7'9" to 8'3", or from 8'3" to 8'9".

Should I choose the 8'0" or the 8'3"?

Choose the 8'0" if you want a more compact, responsive feel but need more stability than the 7'9". Choose the 8'3" if you want a more forgiving all-round size with extra glide and confidence in choppier water.

Should I choose the 8'6" or the 8'9"?

Choose the 8'6" if you want extra stability over the 8'3" but still want to keep the board feeling responsive. Choose the 8'9" if stability, glide and wave count matter more than keeping the board compact.

How does the Twin Fin compare with the Starboard Spice?

The Twin Fin feels looser, faster to release and more skatey. The Spice is more versatile and more planted, with a broader performance feel across different wave types. If you want speed and tail release, choose the Twin Fin. If you want one board to cover more conditions, the Spice may be the safer choice.

How does the Twin Fin compare with the Starboard Pro?

The Pro is the sharper and more technical board for riders chasing vertical turns and maximum precision. The Twin Fin is more about speed, flow and release, making it less demanding and often more enjoyable in weaker surf.

Limited Series or Acute Carbon?

Choose Limited Series if you want the best balance of value, durability and everyday performance. Choose Acute Carbon if you want the lightest, most responsive version of the board and are happy to invest in the premium construction.

Does the Starboard Twin Fin come with a paddle, leash or bag?

No. This package includes the board in your chosen size and construction. We strongly recommend adding a suitable surf leash, and a composite board bag if you are transporting or storing the board regularly.

Can I use the Twin Fin on flat water?

You can paddle it around, but it is a surf SUP first and foremost. If you mainly want flat-water paddling with occasional surf use, a more crossover-focused board such as the Starboard Generation style of board may make more sense.

Specifications

  • Features

Twin-fin drive & release: twin boxes paired with a board that’s designed to build speed easily, then “let go” cleanly when you push through a turn. The result is a surfier feel that rewards good footwork and rail engagement.

Hip + channelled tail = instant acceleration: the hip behind the fin boxes helps the board pivot into an arc, while the channelled tail helps it carry speed and release smoothly out of turns – ideal when you’re linking sections.

Rails tuned for speed and control: fuller rails forward help you carry speed and stay forgiving on entry; thinner rails towards the tail reduce swing weight and make tighter turns feel easier.
