Description

If you already foil and you want more reliable sessions in real-world UK conditions, the Duotone Foil Assist Set AL is one of the cleanest ways to add electric assistance without turning your setup into a full eFoil.

The motor is integrated into the 84cm aluminium mast, the batteries sit around your waist in the eHarness, and the board remains a proper foilboard rather than a heavy powered platform. On the water, that means earlier take-offs, easier re-starts, longer links and a useful safety margin when the wind, wave or swell drops off.

This is the Foil Assist package for riders who already have a compatible foil board and foil setup, or who want to build a system around their existing gear. You will still need the correct brand-specific fuselage adapter to connect the mast to your foil.

Watch Our Duotone Foil Assist Review

We have reviewed the Duotone Foil Assist system properly through The SUP Company YouTube channel, including where the AL version sits against the D/LAB version and who each setup is best suited to. If you are deciding whether the AL set is the right route, this video is well worth watching before you buy.

Where It Sits In The Duotone Foil Assist Range

The Foil Assist Set AL is the smart, value-led performance option in the Duotone Foil Assist range. It uses a durable aluminium mast, keeps the riding feel clean and efficient, and gives you the same core Foil Assist experience that makes the Duotone system so appealing.

Choose this AL set if you want a robust, everyday Foil Assist system that works across wing foiling, prone foiling, SUP foiling, downwind foiling and parawing use. If you want the lightest, stiffest and most premium mast feel, step up to the Duotone Foil Assist Set D/LAB. If you want the easiest ready-to-ride route with a matched board and foil included, look at the Duotone Foil Assist Set Complete AL with Midfish Foil Board.

Why Riders Choose Foil Assist

  • More take-offs: get help with marginal wind starts, flatwater pump-ups and weaker swell entries.
  • Longer connections: link bumps, waves and sections that would normally fade before you get there.
  • Less waiting around: spend more of the session flying rather than slogging, paddling or waiting for the perfect gust.
  • A useful safety margin: add a controlled boost when conditions soften or you need help getting back.
  • Clean foil feel: the motor-in-mast design keeps the board underside tidy and avoids the bulk of external pod systems.
  • Works with existing foil gear: the adapter system allows the AL mast to be matched with a wide range of foil brands.

2-Blade vs 3-Blade Propeller: Why It Matters

Propeller choice changes how the Duotone Foil Assist system feels. The standard 2-blade style is generally the cleaner, lower-drag route and suits riders who want the assist to stay subtle, natural and glide-focused. The 3-blade option gives a stronger, more obvious thrust feel and suits riders who want more bite from the motor during starts and low-speed acceleration.

In plain English, the 2-blade feels more discreet. The 3-blade feels more deliberate. Neither is automatically better; it depends on whether you value the cleanest possible glide or stronger assistance when the motor engages.

For a deeper breakdown, read our full guide: Duotone Foil Assist 2-Blade vs 3-Blade Propeller – Which One Should You Choose?

Should You Upgrade To The 3-Blade Propeller?

Most riders should think of the Foil Assist Set AL as the clean, efficient starting point. It keeps the system close to Duotone’s original Foil Assist idea: enough power to help you get going and connect more sections, without taking over the feel of foiling.

The Duotone ePropeller 3-Blade SLS with Mount becomes interesting if you want stronger low-speed drive, more obvious thrust and a more planted response when the motor comes in. It can make sense for heavier riders, smaller boards, smaller foils, more technical starts or anyone who wants the assist to feel more active.

The trade-off is that a 3-blade setup can feel slightly less clean when free-gliding. If you are a glide purist, the 2-blade route is likely to remain the more natural choice. If your priority is stronger assistance and easier repeatability, the 3-blade option is a sensible upgrade path.

Compatibility & What You Will Need

  • Foil board required: you will need a foil board with standard twin US foil tracks.
  • Foil required: this is the assist system only, not a complete foil package.
  • Fuselage adapter required: a brand-specific adapter is needed to connect the Foil Assist mast to your foil.
  • Rider setup matters: board volume, foil size, rider weight and riding style all affect how the system will feel.

Choose Your Adapter

If you are unsure which adapter you need, send us your foil brand and model, or a clear photo of your fuselage connection, and we will point you towards the right part.

Helpful Reading & Buying Advice

FAQs

Is the Duotone Foil Assist Set AL a full eFoil?

No. It is an assist system for foiling, not a full eFoil. You still ride it like a normal foil setup for wing, prone, SUP, downwind or parawing use. The motor helps with take-off, connection and recovery, but it is not designed to replace the feel of foiling with a powered eFoil board.

What is the difference between Foil Assist AL and D/LAB?

The AL version uses a durable aluminium mast and is the best value route into the Duotone Foil Assist system. The D/LAB version uses a premium carbon mast for riders who want the lightest swing weight, stiffest response and most refined feel. For most riders, the AL set is the sensible place to start.

Do I need a special board?

You need a foil board with standard twin US foil tracks. Beyond that, board choice depends on your rider weight, ability, discipline and how easy you want take-offs to be. If you want a matched board and foil included, look at the Duotone Foil Assist Set Complete AL with Midfish Foil Board.

Which harness size should I choose?

S–M fits approx. 71–89cm / 28"–35" waists. L–XXL fits approx. 89–114cm / 35"–45" waists. If you are between sizes and plan to wear the harness over a thick winter wetsuit, sizing up is usually the more comfortable choice.

How long does the Duotone Foil Assist Set AL run for?

Typical assisted runtime is around 35–60 minutes, depending on rider weight, foil efficiency, board choice, conditions and how much power you use. Most riders use the motor in short bursts for take-offs, links and recovery rather than holding power constantly.

Can I fly with the batteries?

The 7Ah battery format is designed around a compact, travel-conscious capacity, but airline rules vary and can change. Always check your airline’s current lithium battery policy before travelling.

Should I use a 2-blade or 3-blade propeller?

The 2-blade route is generally cleaner, lower drag and more natural-feeling. The 3-blade option gives stronger bite and a more obvious assist feel. If you want the system to stay subtle, start with the 2-blade style. If you want stronger low-speed drive and more help on starts, consider the Duotone ePropeller 3-Blade SLS with Mount. Our full Duotone Foil Assist 2-Blade vs 3-Blade Propeller guide explains the difference in detail.

What do I need to make it compatible with my foil?

You need the correct brand-specific fuselage adapter for your foil. If you tell us your foil brand and model, or send a clear photo of your fuselage connection, we can help you choose the right adapter.

Can The SUP Company help me choose the right setup?

Yes. Tell us your weight, discipline, board volume, foil model and where you ride, and we will recommend a sensible starting setup for UK conditions, including the correct adapter and whether the 2-blade or 3-blade propeller route makes more sense for you.

Specifications

  • Features

84cm Aluminium eMast With Integrated Motor

The motor is housed within the mast profile rather than mounted as a separate pod under the board. That gives the Duotone system a cleaner feel through the water and keeps the board behaving more like a normal foilboard. The 84cm mast length gives useful clearance in chop while still feeling connected and manageable for everyday riding.

    Waist-Worn Battery System

The batteries sit in the Duotone eHarness Set around your waist rather than being fixed to the board. This helps keep swing weight out of the board, so your foilboard remains lively, responsive and more natural underfoot.

    eRemote Watch Ring Control

Power is controlled by the Duotone eRemote Watch Ring Set. The watch-style remote and finger trigger give you access to controlled boost levels while still allowing you to paddle, handle a wing or manage the board normally.

    Travel-Friendly Battery Format

The set includes 2 x Duotone Foil Assist 7Ah Batteries. Each battery is designed around a compact capacity format, making the system much more travel-conscious than a traditional full eFoil battery. Airline rules vary, so always check your carrier’s current lithium battery policy before flying.

    Brand-Specific Adapter System

The Foil Assist Set AL needs the correct fuselage adapter to connect the mast to your foil. This is a good thing if you already own a foil brand you like, because you do not necessarily need to replace your whole foil setup. Choose the correct adapter for your foil brand, or contact us if you are unsure.
