Description

If your favourite sessions involve surf, swell, or downwind “freefly” moments where you want the wing to disappear, the Duotone Float is the one we point people at. It’s built around drift stability and a forward, compact feel, so you can flag it out, stay on your line, and focus on the foil rather than fighting the wing. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Worth knowing up front: the Float is sold as a boom-only wing — it comes without a boom, and Duotone’s setup is designed around the Duotone Fusion Boom for the lightest, most direct wave/freefly feel.

Where it sits in the Duotone range

The easiest way to think about it:

  • Choose the Float if you prioritise drift, neutral handling, and wave/downwind control (freefly-focused sessions).
  • Choose the Unit if you want the most versatile “do-it-all” wing across freeride, jumping and general progression.

Duotone also tune the Float with a design that’s explicitly aimed at wave/freefly use, including an optimised canopy and a forward centre of effort for easier handling while flagged out.

Why choose the Float

  • Proper drift when you flag it – stays stable and out the way as you surf a line.
  • Wave-first steering – direct control through the leading-edge handle design for quick corrections on the face.
  • Size-specific tuning – smaller sizes bias drift/power, larger sizes bias stability so the range feels consistent.
  • Compact, forward pull – low sweep angle helps keep the wing balanced and easy to manage when moving hands.
  • More grunt for its size – Duotone state it delivers more power than the same size Unit, which is handy when you’re trying to stay flying through lulls on a swell run.

Try it at our Lymington Wingsurf & Foil Demo Centre

If you’re unsure whether the Float is the right call versus a Unit (or you’re stuck between sizes), the fastest way to get it right is a demo. Our SUP Co x Lymington site is built for wingsurf & foil demos, right by the water.

FAQs

Is the Float the right wing for learning?

You can learn on it, but it’s really designed for riders who prioritise drift and neutral handling in waves/swell. If you want one wing to cover everything (freeride, jumps, general progression), an all-rounder can be the easier “first wing” choice.

Do I need a boom for the Float?

Yes — the Float is designed as a boom-only setup and comes without the boom, so you’ll want to add the Duotone Fusion Boom

What size should I choose?

As a starting point: pick your “normal” wing size for your local wind, then consider going slightly smaller if you’re mainly wave riding (more neutral/less pull) or slightly bigger if you’re chasing downwind bumps in lighter wind. If you tell us your weight and typical wind range, we’ll dial this in properly.

Can I demo the Float before buying?

Yes — our SUP Co x Lymington location is our dedicated Wingsurf & Foil demo centre, right by the water.

Specifications

  • Features

Low sweep angle / forward centre of effort: The wing “sits” in a balanced, predictable place overhead, which is exactly what you want when you’re flagging it and carving.

Wave-optimised canopy tension: Duotone reduce front canopy tension to create a deeper profile for accessible power, then adjust per size so you don’t get a twitchy feel as you go bigger/smaller.

Stiffer centre section: Increased tube diameter through the centre improves rigidity, so steering inputs feel crisp rather than “spongy” in messy wind.

Weight-optimised build: The Float targets low swing weight for surf/freefly use (less fatigue, easier hand-off when flagged).
