Description
Description
The Starboard Generation Lite Tech 2026 is one of the smartest choices in the Starboard hard board range for paddlers who want one board to cover a lot of ground. If your paddling includes fitness sessions, open-water cruising, coastal exploring, small surf, and the occasional faster paddle with friends, the Generation makes a huge amount of sense.
At The SUP Company, we see the Generation as the board for people who do not want to be pushed into one narrow category. It is more efficient and faster-feeling than a surf-style all-round board, but more forgiving, more versatile, and more fun across mixed UK conditions than a pure race or flatwater touring shape. That is exactly why the Generation has built such a strong following.
Where the Generation Lite Tech Sits in the Range
If you want a board that feels composed across chop, boat wash, estuary paddling and small swell, the Generation is the one to look at. Compared with a straighter, flatter touring board, it has a more all-water feel and a more manoeuvrable tail. Compared with a dedicated surf SUP, it glides better, tracks better, and covers distance far more easily.
Choose the 12'6 x 30 if stability is the priority. Choose the 12'6 x 28 if you want the sweet spot for most paddlers. Choose the 14'0 x 28 if you want more glide, more speed and a more efficient feel over distance.
Why Choose the Starboard Generation Lite Tech?
- True crossover performance for touring, fitness paddling, small surf and open-water cruising.
- More efficient than a typical all-round board, so every stroke takes you further.
- More forgiving than a pure race board, especially in real-world UK conditions.
- Stable without feeling dull, giving you confidence without losing responsiveness.
- Lite Tech construction keeps cost sensible while still delivering a strong, proven hard-board feel.
- A great upgrade board for paddlers stepping on from inflatable all-rounders or touring iSUPs.

Is the Starboard Generation a touring board or a surf SUP?
It sits in the middle, which is exactly why it works so well. The Generation is best thought of as a high-performance crossover board. It tours far better than a surf SUP, but it is more playful and capable in chop and small waves than a pure touring shape.
Who should choose the 12'6 x 28?
For many paddlers, this is the sweet-spot size. It gives a very good balance of speed, stability and all-round versatility. If you have some experience already and want a board that can genuinely do a bit of everything, this is usually the standout option.
Who should choose the 12'6 x 30?
Go for the 30 if you want more reassurance underfoot, especially if stability matters more than outright speed. It is a very sensible option for larger paddlers, mixed ability use, or anyone upgrading from a more stable inflatable board.
Why choose the 14'0 x 28?
If you want more glide per stroke and a more efficient feel over distance, the 14'0 x 28 is the one. It is the better choice for longer paddles, fitness work and open-water cruising where speed and carry matter more.
Is Lite Tech good enough, or should I look at carbon?
Lite Tech is a very good choice for most paddlers who want hard-board performance without carbon pricing. If you are an advanced rider chasing every last bit of lightness and response, carbon may be worth it. For a lot of customers though, Lite Tech is the sensible sweet spot.
Can I try a Generation before buying?
Yes. If you want to compare sizes or decide between a hard board and an inflatable alternative, our SUP Test Centre in Southampton is exactly the place to do it. It is the quickest way to work out what actually feels right on the water.
