Description

The Red Paddle Co 12'6 Sport - Future Series is a premium touring inflatable for paddlers who want to move beyond an all-round board and into something faster, cleaner through the water and more rewarding over distance.

If you have enjoyed a wider all-round shape but now want more glide, straighter tracking and a more efficient feel on flat water, estuaries or light coastal conditions, this is exactly the sort of board we would point you towards. It still feels reassuring and usable, but it has a noticeably more purposeful edge than a typical “do everything” SUP.

Within the Red Paddle Co range, the 12'6 Sport sits in the sweet spot between easy progression and proper touring performance. It is a better fit than a Ride for paddlers wanting to cover distance more efficiently, but it is less specialist than a race-focused Elite and less cargo-led than a Voyager. In simple terms, this is the board for paddlers who want to go further, faster and enjoy the journey more.

Which version should you choose?

The 12'6 Sport page currently covers two sizes, and the choice is straightforward:

  • 12'6" x 30" is the safer all-round pick for most paddlers. It gives you the classic Red Sport blend of glide and stability, making it a brilliant upgrade board for longer paddles, fitness paddling and general touring.
  • 12'6" x 28" is the narrower, quicker-feeling option for lighter or more confident paddlers who want a more responsive board and are happy to trade a little forgiveness for extra speed and efficiency.

Helpful reading & buying advice

Is the 12'6 Sport a good step up from an all-round board?

Yes. This is exactly the kind of board we recommend when someone has outgrown a wider all-round SUP and wants better glide, better tracking and a more efficient feel without jumping straight to something twitchy or overly specialist.

Should I choose the 12'6 x 30 or the 12'6 x 28?

For most paddlers, the 30" version is the safer bet and the easier board to recommend. It keeps the speed and touring benefit of the Sport shape while feeling more forgiving. The 28" version is the one to choose if you are lighter, more confident, or you want a quicker, more reactive feel from the board.

What is the difference between the 12'6 Sport and the Voyager?

The Sport is the better pick for day touring, fitness paddling and paddlers who want a cleaner, faster feel. The Voyager is the more expedition-minded board, with more carrying ability and a shape that suits rougher water, longer journeys and more loaded touring.

Is the Future Series worth it over the standard Red Sport?

If you paddle regularly, value performance and want a board that feels as crisp as possible on the water, yes. The Future Series build makes most sense for paddlers who will notice and appreciate the lighter, stiffer, more reactive feel. If you simply want a dependable touring board and are less concerned with that extra level of response, the standard construction may still be enough.

Does it come with a paddle?

The board package itself does not have to include a paddle, but you can add a discounted Red Paddle Co paddle when ordering. For most paddlers, the Hybrid or Prime options are where this board really starts to shine.

Can I try one before buying?

Yes. You can book a session at our SUP Test Centre and compare touring boards and paddles properly before making the call. That is often the best way to decide between the 28" and 30" versions, or between the Sport and Voyager ranges.

Specifications

  • Features

Future Series / MSL 800 construction
This is where the board starts to separate itself from cheaper or more basic inflatables. The Future Series build is designed to feel lighter, stiffer and more lively on the water, so each paddle stroke gives you more forward return and less of that “inflatable bounce” feeling.

    RSS battens
These removable side battens help stiffen the board further, especially on a longer, touring-oriented shape like this. On the water that translates into better efficiency, cleaner glide and a board that feels more locked in when you put power through the paddle.

    12'6 length
This is the sweet spot for paddlers who want noticeably better glide than an 11' all-round board without stepping into a full race or expedition board. It is long enough to cover distance properly, but still manageable to carry, inflate and enjoy casually.

    Sport outline
The narrower nose and more refined shape help the board move through the water with less drag than a traditional all-round shape. The result is easier cruising speed, less effort over distance and a board that encourages better technique as your paddling improves.

    4.7" / 120mm thickness
This slimmer profile helps the board feel more connected to the water than a thicker, boxier inflatable. It is one of the reasons the Sport range feels quicker and more performance-led rather than just stable for the sake of it.

    9" touring fin
A proper touring fin helps the board track straighter, so you can take fewer corrective strokes and settle into a cleaner rhythm. That matters more and more the longer your paddles become.
