Description
The AXIS Fuselage to 19mm Mast Adapter – better known as the AXIS Doodad – is the critical connection between an AXIS 19mm aluminium mast and a standard AXIS Black Series fuselage. For 2026 AXIS has redesigned this small but important component, improving stiffness, load distribution and the hydrodynamic shape around the mast-to-fuselage junction.
If you are building a foil around the latest black AXIS 19mm Aluminium Mast, this is the standard Doodad you need between the mast and a compatible Black Series fuselage. Importantly, it is also fully compatible with the previous-generation red AXIS 19mm aluminium masts, making it a useful replacement or upgrade for existing setups.
Why has AXIS redesigned the 19mm Doodad?
The Doodad has always done more than simply bolt two parts together. It forms part of the structural connection between the mast and fuselage, so any movement or flex here can be felt throughout the foil.
The latest version adds extra support legs around the mast connection. These help increase lateral stiffness while reducing the twisting loads and concentrated stresses transferred into the aluminium mast sidewalls. In practical terms, the connection between mast and fuselage becomes more solid and better supported when the foil is being loaded through turns, pumping or powered riding.
The redesigned fairing also spreads those loads over a wider area rather than concentrating them around a small section of the connection.
A cleaner mast-to-fuselage junction
AXIS has also changed the external profile of the Doodad. The tapered shape draws on development work from its newer high-performance carbon mast programmes and creates a cleaner transition where the mast meets the fuselage.
That matters because this junction sits directly in the water flow. A smoother transition helps reduce unnecessary turbulence and drag around one of the most structurally complex areas of the foil.

This version is designed for AXIS 19mm aluminium masts and standard AXIS Black Series fuselages.
It is compatible with both the latest black 19mm aluminium masts and previous-generation red 19mm AXIS aluminium masts.
Important: this is not the version for an AXIS FATTY fuselage. FATTY systems use their own dedicated FATTY Fuselage to 19mm Mast Adapter / Doodad. If you are not sure which fuselage system you have, it is worth checking before ordering.

Will it fit my older red AXIS 19mm aluminium mast?
Yes. AXIS confirms that the redesigned 2026 Doodad remains fully compatible with previous-generation red 19mm aluminium masts.
Does it fit an AXIS FATTY fuselage?
No. The FATTY fuselage system uses a separate FATTY-specific 19mm Mast Adapter / Doodad. Make sure you select the correct version for your fuselage.
What has changed compared with the older AXIS Doodad?
The latest design adds additional structural support around the mast connection, improves how loads are distributed between mast and fuselage and uses a more tapered external fairing to clean up water flow around the junction.
Are the mounting screws included?
Yes. The current AXIS Doodad is supplied with its mounting screws.
Do I need a Doodad with an AXIS carbon mast?
No. This component is specifically part of the AXIS 19mm aluminium mast system. AXIS carbon mast systems use a different mast-to-fuselage arrangement.
