Description

AXIS 19mm Aluminium Foil Mast is the proven workhorse mast in the AXIS foil system. If you want a mast that feels solid, direct and dependable underfoot without jumping straight to the price of carbon, this is where most riders should start. It is a superb choice for learning, progressing and building a durable AXIS foil setup across surf, SUP, wing, kite, wake and tow use, depending on the length you choose.

Within the AXIS range, the 19mm aluminium mast is the sensible, high-value option. Compared with the AXIS Carbon Power High Modulus Mast, it is thicker and heavier, so it creates a bit more drag, but that extra weight can also make the foil feel calmer and less twitchy while you progress. If your priority is stiffness, durability, modularity and value, this is the mast to buy. If your priority is the lightest feel, fastest pumping response and maximum glide, carbon is the upgrade path.

Why Choose the AXIS 19mm Aluminium Foil Mast?

  • Very stiff for the money: AXIS designed this 19mm section to deliver a much stiffer feel than the thinner 15mm aluminium masts commonly seen elsewhere, which helps the foil feel more direct and predictable.
  • Brilliant for progression: The slightly heavier, more planted feel can actually help newer and intermediate riders control flight height and settle the foil in choppy water.
  • Durable and practical: Aluminium is a strong choice if your gear gets used properly and transported regularly.
  • Modular AXIS ecosystem: Choose the mast length that suits your discipline now, then swap lengths or upgrade later without rebuilding your whole foil from scratch.
  • Still a valid long-term choice: Plenty of riders stay on AXIS aluminium masts because they like the locked-in feel, especially with larger front wings and all-round use.

Choosing Your Mast Length

Length Best For
450mm / 15.6" First flights and earliest learning sessions.
600mm / 23.6" A strong early progression length for riders building real time on foil.
680mm / 26.6" The classic all-round option for prone surf foiling, wake and all-round SUP foiling.
750mm / 29.5" Bigger surf, downwind use and more advanced riding, or a surfier kite foil feel.
820mm / 32.2" A great in-between size if 750mm feels short but 900mm feels like too much mast.
900mm / 35.4" The main size for wingfoiling, kite foiling, windfoil use and tow foiling.
1050mm / 41.3" Big swell downwinders and more aggressive, speed-focused riding.

Helpful Reading & Buying Advice

Is the AXIS 19mm Aluminium Foil Mast a good choice for beginners?

Yes. This is one of the best entry points into the AXIS system because it combines excellent stiffness with a more settled, confidence-building feel than a thinner carbon mast. It is also better value, which matters when you are still working out your ideal overall foil setup.

Who should choose this mast instead of carbon?

Choose this mast if you want stiffness, value and durability first. It suits newer riders, intermediate riders, heavier riders and anyone building a dependable all-round setup. If you are chasing the lightest feel, best pumping response and lowest drag, then carbon becomes the better option.

What size should I choose?

450mm suits first flights, 600mm is a strong early progression size, 680mm is the classic all-round SUP and prone choice, 750mm suits bigger surf and more advanced riding, 820mm fills the gap between 750mm and 900mm, 900mm is the main size for wing, kite and windfoil use, and 1050mm is for big swell downwind or aggressive speed-focused riding.

What else do I need to build a working AXIS foil setup?

At minimum, you will normally need the correct mast-to-board connection, the correct mast-to-fuselage connection, a fuselage, front wing, rear wing and hardware. For most track-mount boards that means a 19mm base plate and a doodad. If your board uses a Tuttle or Deep Tuttle box, you would look at the Mast Tuttle Head Adaptor instead of the standard base plate.

Does an aluminium mast need more maintenance than carbon?

Yes, a little. If you are using aluminium in salt water, rinse the setup after use, keep bolts properly greased with a corrosion-prevention paste such as Tef-Gel, and strip the foil down periodically so bolts do not seize into the mast or fittings. It is straightforward, but worth staying on top of.

Can I upgrade later without replacing everything?

That is one of the big strengths of AXIS. The system is modular, so you can start with an aluminium mast, work out which lengths and disciplines you actually use, and then upgrade other parts of the setup over time rather than changing the whole foil at once.
