The Duotone Sky Style 2027 takes the compact, progressive shape concept of the Sky Style SLS and delivers it in Duotone's more accessible Vacuum Sandwich construction. It is a performance-led wing foil board for riders who want a lively mix of freeride, freestyle and wave capability without making the jump to the lighter and more expensive SLS construction.

For 2027, the Sky Style receives a significant shape update. A new step tail improves release from the water for earlier take-off and stronger re-pop, while the compact outline reduces swing weight for faster rotations and quicker reactions. A wide nose and tail give the board useful stability before take-off and a more forgiving platform when coming back down, while the high rocker line provides the clearance and control needed when riding faster, jumping or recovering from touchdowns.

The result is a board that makes most sense once you are already reliably getting onto foil and want something substantially more playful beneath your feet. It is compact enough to reward harder carving and freestyle progression, but the 75L, 85L and 95L volumes retain enough usable platform to make the Sky Style a realistic everyday board rather than an ultra-specialised competition shape.

Why Choose the 2027 Sky Style?

New Step Tail – Earlier Release and More Re-Pop

The most important shape development for the 2027 Sky Style is its step tail. Once the board begins accelerating, the step reduces the effective wetted area towards the rear of the board. In practical terms, there is less surface holding the board onto the water as you approach foiling speed.

That matters in two different situations. During a normal start it helps the board transition cleanly from displacement to flight. For more progressive riding it also helps the board release again after touching down or when loading the board for a jump or freestyle move. Duotone describes this as increased re-pop – essentially the ability to release quickly and get the board back into the air rather than feeling stuck to the surface.

Compact Where It Matters

The Sky Style is deliberately very different from the longer mid-length boards now available for wing foiling. Rather than chasing maximum waterline and low-wind glide, its shorter outline is designed to disappear beneath your feet once you are airborne.

Lower swing weight means there is less board rotating around the foil during turns and aerial manoeuvres. That translates into quicker reactions, tighter carving and a much more natural feel when jumping or progressing into rotations.

The clever part is that Duotone has combined this compact length with a relatively wide nose and tail. The board can therefore feel small and responsive in the air without unnecessarily sacrificing the platform you stand on when waiting for a gust, accelerating or recovering from a landing.

High Rocker for Speed, Jumps and Touchdowns

The pronounced rocker is another important part of the Sky Style character. More nose clearance gives you additional margin when riding quickly through chop, touching down during a transition or landing a jump. It also suits the more aggressive riding style this board is designed around, where the board is frequently being driven through steeper angles than a flatter, glide-focused foil board.

There is a trade-off. If your absolute priority is maximum glide and the easiest possible marginal-wind take-off, a longer mid-length such as a Skybrid is likely to make more sense. The Sky Style exchanges some of that length-driven efficiency for a significantly more compact, responsive ride once airborne.

Vacuum Sandwich Technology – More Than Just the Standard Construction

The standard Sky Style uses Duotone's refined Vacuum Sandwich Technology. This is not simply a basic alternative to the SLS board. It uses a multi-stage vacuum construction with reinforcement specifically concentrated around the areas that receive the greatest loads from the rider and foil.

The construction combines a light EPS core with multiple fibre and reinforcement layers. The 2027 construction specification includes reinforcement through the foil box and centre spine areas, a full bamboo reinforcement through the stance area, additional carbon reinforcement beneath the heels and extra protection through the rails.

High-density reinforcement around the standing area and strategically positioned carbon patches help create a direct connection between rider and foil while dealing with repeated loading from pumping, carving and landings. The aim is a board that remains strong and responsive without simply adding unnecessary laminate and weight everywhere.

For a rider who wants Sky Style performance but does not need the lightweight Biax Carbon PVC construction of the SLS version, this is one of the strongest reasons to choose the standard board.

Who Is the Duotone Sky Style 2027 For?

We would primarily recommend the Sky Style to progressing intermediate through advanced wing foilers. It is particularly well suited to riders who are already getting onto foil consistently and now want their board to become less of a platform and more of an active part of their riding.

It makes particular sense if your next goals include:

• more committed carving and tighter turns;
• riding wind swell and smaller waves;
• improving gybes and tacks on a more compact board;
• learning to jump;
• progressing into rotations and freestyle manoeuvres;
• reducing swing weight compared with a larger progression board;
• having one compact board for both normal freeriding and more progressive sessions.

Who Might Be Better on Something Else?

The Sky Style is not the board we would normally put a complete beginner onto. A learner still working on balance, wing handling and first flights will generally progress faster on a board with more volume and a calmer platform.

Equally, riders whose priority is light-wind efficiency, maximum glide or getting flying with the least possible pumping should look closely at Duotone's longer Skybrid shapes. The extra waterline of a mid-length board generates speed more efficiently before take-off.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, a rider primarily focused on advanced wave riding rather than freestyle/all-round performance should consider the more surf-specific Trace SLS. Choosing Your Duotone Sky Style Size

Sky Style 4'11" x 24" – 75 litres

The most compact Sky Style and the size with the greatest emphasis on agility. At only 4'11", its reduced length keeps swing weight particularly low, making it the natural choice for lighter riders and experienced riders who want the quickest reactions from the standard construction.

The 24" width gives the board useful platform stability for its length, but 75 litres is still a meaningful step down for many riders. It is best chosen because your ability supports the volume rather than simply because you want the smallest board.

Sky Style 5'2" x 24.5" – 85 litres

The 85L is the middle ground in the range and likely to be the most versatile choice for many established wing foilers. You retain the short, reactive Sky Style feel while gaining noticeably more flotation and support than the 75L.

For riders looking for one compact board for freeride, carving, waves and the first serious steps into freestyle, the 85L has a particularly attractive balance of agility and usability.

Sky Style 5'4" x 25.25" – 95 litres

The largest Sky Style keeps the same progressive shape philosophy but provides a considerably more supportive platform. At 25.25" wide and 95 litres, it makes sense for heavier riders or anyone who wants to move onto a compact performance board without making an unnecessarily aggressive volume reduction.

It is also the size we would look at first for riders dealing regularly with gusty wind and UK chop who still want Sky Style manoeuvrability once flying.

Sky Style vs Sky Style SLS

The key point is that the standard 2027 Sky Style is based around the same performance-oriented shape direction as the Sky Style SLS. Both use the new step-tail concept, compact outline, wide nose and tail and high rocker line.

The major difference is construction. The standard Sky Style uses Vacuum Sandwich Technology, giving it a strong balance of durability, stiffness, performance and price. The Sky Style SLS moves to a lightweight Biax Carbon PVC construction with carbon foil tracks and additional features such as a cork shock absorber beneath the heel area.

The SLS also extends the range much further down in volume, with sizes from 30L through to 95L. That makes it the better route for advanced riders deliberately moving onto sinker-style boards or anyone prioritising minimum weight and maximum response.

Our buying advice: choose the standard Sky Style if 75L, 85L or 95L gives you the volume you need and you want the strongest performance-to-price balance. Move to the SLS if lower weight, maximum stiffness or access to the smaller volumes is important enough to justify the premium.

Sky Style vs Skybrid

These boards solve two different problems.

Sky Style: shorter, more compact and more manoeuvrable. Choose it for carving, jumps, freestyle, wave riding and a lively feel once airborne.

Skybrid: longer and narrower with more waterline and glide. Choose it if you want earlier take-offs in lighter wind, more efficient acceleration and a calmer mid-length feel.

If you are consistently powered and your priority is what happens after take-off, the Sky Style is usually the more exciting board. If your priority is making the take-off itself easier and getting more flights from marginal sessions, the Skybrid deserves serious consideration.

Sky Style vs Trace SLS

The Trace SLS sits further towards dedicated wave performance. Its narrower, more surf-oriented outline, pointier nose and heavily bevelled rails are designed to maximise clearance and manoeuvrability through committed turns.

The Sky Style is the more versatile option. It retains strong wave capability but puts considerably more emphasis on freestyle, jumping and everyday freeriding. For somebody wanting one compact board to cover most powered wing-foiling sessions, the Sky Style is likely to be the broader choice.

Building a Balanced Setup

Do not choose your board in isolation. Board volume, foil lift, mast length, wing size and rider weight all influence how easy the complete setup is to use.

A compact Sky Style paired with an unnecessarily small or highly technical foil can make starts far harder than they need to be. For most progressing riders, keeping enough low-speed lift and predictability in the foil lets you enjoy the smaller board without sacrificing half the session getting going.
