Description

Red Paddle Co 12'6 x 30 Sport Future Series - Ex Demo

The Red Paddle Co 12'6 x 30 Sport Future Series is an excellent step-up board for paddlers who have outgrown a conventional all-round SUP and now want more glide, cleaner tracking and better efficiency over distance. The 12'6 waterline carries speed noticeably better than a 10'6 or 10'8, while the 30-inch width keeps it reassuring enough for everyday touring rather than turning it into a specialist race board.

This ex-demo board has been used as part of our demonstration fleet and offers a great opportunity to buy Red Paddle Co's premium Future Series construction for less. It comes with a Red Paddle Co board bag, Titan II pump, RSS battens, touring fin and coiled leash. The supplied fin and leash are both used.

For regular river, canal, lake, harbour and sensible coastal paddling, this is one of the easiest performance-focused inflatables in the Red range to recommend.

Who does the 12'6 x 30 Sport suit?

  • Paddlers upgrading from a 10'6, 10'8 or similar all-round inflatable.
  • Beginners who want a board they can progress into rather than quickly outgrow.
  • Intermediate and experienced paddlers covering longer distances.
  • Fitness paddling and faster recreational cruising.
  • River, canal, lake, estuary and coastal touring in appropriate conditions.
  • Paddlers who want good speed without dropping to a more demanding 28-inch board.

The 30-inch width is an important part of the appeal. It is narrow enough to reduce drag and let you place the paddle closer to the centre line, but wide enough to remain comfortable when the water becomes choppy or your legs are tired towards the end of a longer session.

Future Series MSL 800 construction

The Future Series uses Red Paddle Co's MSL 800 double-drop-stitch construction. The woven core allows Red to create a board that is lighter and stiffer than previous-generation touring inflatables, giving it a crisper and more responsive feel underfoot.

That stiffness matters particularly on a 12'6 board. A softer inflatable bends as you paddle, shortening its effective waterline and wasting some of the power from each stroke. The combination of MSL 800 and Red's RSS Rocker Stiffening System creates a much firmer platform, helping the Sport maintain momentum more efficiently.

You can read more about the differences in our Red Paddle Co MSL construction guide.

Low-profile 4.7-inch design

Rather than following the common 6-inch touring-board format, the Sport is only 4.7 inches thick. This keeps your feet and centre of gravity closer to the water, giving the board a more connected and controlled feel.

It also presents less side area to the wind, something you will appreciate when paddling longer river, harbour or coastal routes where conditions can change during a session.

Designed for efficient distance paddling

  • 12'6 length: strong glide and straight-line tracking for covering distance efficiently.
  • 30-inch width: balances speed with everyday stability.
  • 278-litre volume: provides useful carrying capacity without making the board feel oversized.
  • MSL 800 construction: lightweight and impressively stiff for an inflatable SUP.
  • RSS battens: reinforce the rails through the standing area for additional rigidity.
  • Speed Tail: a hard release edge helps water leave the tail cleanly, reducing drag.
  • Sleek touring nose: cuts through flat water and light chop more efficiently than a rounded all-round shape.
  • Six-point front cargo system: useful for securing a dry bag, footwear, drinks or spare layers.
  • Rear attachment points: add extra storage options for longer days on the water.
  • Accessory mount: M6 threaded point for compatible cameras, GPS units and other accessories.
  • 9-inch US touring fin: gives good directional stability with plenty of replacement and upgrade options.

12'6 x 30 Sport or 12'6 x 28 Sport+?

For most recreational paddlers, we would choose the 30-inch Sport. It gives you the longer waterline and efficient Sport shape while retaining enough width to be comfortable in real-world UK conditions.

The narrower 28-inch Sport+ is aimed more towards lighter or particularly confident paddlers who are prepared to trade some stability for a cleaner paddle stroke and slightly faster feel.

If you are moving directly from a 32-34 inch all-round board, the 30-inch Sport is normally the more natural progression. Our Red Paddle Co Sport range comparison explains the differences in more detail.

Sport or Voyager?

The Sport is the better choice when your priorities are pace, fitness paddling and efficient day touring. Its narrower, lower-profile shape feels cleaner through the water and rewards a good paddle stroke.

If you are planning multi-day trips, regularly carrying substantial camping equipment or simply want a more planted expedition platform, a Voyager is the more appropriate direction. The Red Paddle Co 14'0 Voyager Future Series is a good example of that more load-focused approach.

Want even more speed?

If you are already comfortable on narrower boards and regularly paddle longer fitness sessions, a 14ft board gives you another step up in waterline and tracking. The Red Paddle Co 14' Sport Future Series is worth considering if maximum glide matters more than having the more manageable 12'6 length.

Our buying advice

The 12'6 x 30 Sport is a particularly good upgrade for paddlers who can already stand and paddle confidently but have reached the point where their existing all-round board feels slow. Instead of simply buying a more expensive version of the same 10'6 shape, this gives you a meaningful change in waterline, width and construction.

On longer paddles the difference is less about sprint speed and more about how easily the board keeps moving. You spend less time repeatedly accelerating a short, wide board and more time settling into a comfortable cruising rhythm.

We would look elsewhere if your main priority is taking children or dogs on the front, maximum beginner stability or casual beach use. For those jobs a wider all-round SUP is often more practical. You can compare alternatives in our touring paddleboard collection.

Ex-demo condition

This board has been used as part of our demonstration fleet and should therefore be expected to show normal cosmetic signs associated with careful on-water use, inflation, packing and transport. The supplied touring fin and leash are also used.

For paddlers who are more interested in performance and value than pristine retail packaging, this is an excellent way to step into Red Paddle Co's Future Series construction at a reduced price.

Try before you buy

Frequently asked questions

Is the Red Paddle Co 12'6 Sport suitable for a beginner?

Yes, particularly for an active or reasonably confident beginner who wants to progress into longer-distance paddling. At 30 inches wide it is much more approachable than a narrow race board, although a very nervous beginner may still prefer a wider all-round SUP.

Will it feel much faster than a 10'6 all-round paddleboard?

Yes. The longer waterline, narrower outline and cleaner tail release allow the board to carry momentum much more effectively. The difference becomes particularly noticeable once you start covering several kilometres at a time.

Is the 30-inch Sport stable?

Yes. Thirty inches is a useful compromise between touring efficiency and stability. It will feel less planted than a 32-34 inch all-round board, but considerably more forgiving than a 26-28 inch performance or race board.

Can I use it for coastal paddling?

Yes. The Sport works very well for appropriate harbour, estuary and coastal routes. Its 4.7-inch thickness helps it feel connected to the water and reduces windage, although conditions, tide and route should always be appropriate for your ability.

What do the RSS battens do?

The two removable battens slide into pockets along the rails around the standing area. They help resist flex and increase the board's longitudinal stiffness, making the board feel firmer and more efficient under power.

Does this ex-demo package include a paddle?

No. It includes the ex-demo board, Red Paddle Co board bag, Titan II pump, RSS battens, used touring fin and used coiled leash. Browse our SUP paddles if you need to complete the package.

Can I change the fin?

Yes. The standard US fin box gives you access to a wide range of compatible touring, race and shallow-water fins, making it easy to tailor the board to where you paddle.

Should I buy the Sport or a Voyager?

Choose the Sport for faster day touring, fitness paddling and efficient cruising. Choose a Voyager if carrying equipment, expedition use and additional load-carrying stability are more important than outright pace.
