Description
Description
The AXIS Fireball range is for riders chasing proper glide, real speed and that feeling of covering more water with less effort. It was born out of downwind performance, but in the real world it crosses over brilliantly into wingfoiling, SUP foiling and glide-focused riding where efficiency, carry and forward drive matter more than a hyper-loose surf feel.
If you like a foil that keeps moving, holds speed well through lulls and links bumps or sections with less drama, Fireball sits in a very interesting place in the AXIS range. It is fast, efficient and high performance, but not in a way that feels needlessly hard work.
Where the Fireball Sits in the AXIS Range
The easiest way to think about Fireball is this: it is the AXIS choice for riders who want maximum glide and efficient forward drive, without stepping all the way into a pure specialist race-only mindset.
If you want earlier lift, lower stall speed and a friendlier progression path, have a look at AXIS Foils Explained – Best Wing, SUP & Downwind Setups and the broader AXIS front wing range. If your priority is tighter carving and a more surf-led feel, the AXIS Surge Front Wings are the more natural direction.
Choose Fireball if you want to:
- carry speed and glide for longer
- cover more distance with less input
- ride a foil that feels efficient rather than draggy
- push into open-water winging, downwind-style riding or fast crossover use
Why Choose the AXIS Fireball
- Huge glide and carry: ideal for linking bumps, stretching runs and keeping momentum alive.
- Fast without feeling nervous: Fireball has real top-end, but the pitch stability helps it stay composed.
- Earlier lift than the outline suggests: despite the high-performance shape, the foil section gives it excellent lift and low-speed carry.
- Efficient touchdown recovery: if you do kiss the water, Fireball is designed to keep going better than many foils in this category.
- Pairs brilliantly with modern AXIS components: especially Skinny rears and the shorter Advance+ fuselage options.
- Broad range of sizes: from faster, smaller open-water options through to the big-glide 1500 and 1750 monster sizes.

Who Should Choose Which Direction?
880 / 940
Best for stronger conditions, faster riders and those wanting the quickest, most open-water-biased feel in the range.
1000 / 1070
Excellent crossover sizes for riders who want real glide and speed, but with a touch more forgiveness and easier flight than the very smallest options.
1160 / 1250 / 1350
These larger Fireballs make sense for riders wanting more support, bigger glide windows, easier starts and more versatility across wing, SUP foil and lower-energy conditions.
1500 / 1750
Monster-glide options for heavier riders, flatwater pumping, low-energy downwind days and anyone chasing huge efficiency. These sizes make the most sense when paired properly with the FATTY ecosystem.

Is the AXIS Fireball only for downwind racing?
No. That is where the design idea started, but Fireball crosses over very well into wingfoiling, SUP foiling and glide-focused crossover use. If you want efficient forward drive and proper carry, Fireball makes sense well beyond pure racing.
How does Fireball compare with the AXIS Surge?
Fireball is the better choice if your priority is glide, speed retention and open-water efficiency. Surge is the better choice if your priority is tighter carving, wave feel and a more surf-led response. Both are high-performance, but they deliver that performance in different ways.
Do I need a Skinny rear stabiliser with the Fireball?
You do not have to, but it is the direction we would normally recommend. Fireball is designed to work well with the lower-drag AXIS Skinny rear wings, which help free up speed and keep the setup feeling balanced at pace.
Do I need the FATTY mast and fuselage for the 1500 or 1750?
For the 1750, yes, that is the sensible route. For the 1500, it is strongly recommended, especially for heavier riders or anyone wanting the setup to feel properly controlled under load. These bigger wings deserve a stiff, well-matched platform.
Is Fireball a good first AXIS front wing?
Usually not for a true beginner. Most riders new to foiling or still building consistency are better starting on an easier-lifting, lower-stall option. Fireball makes more sense once you already know you want more glide, more speed and a more performance-led feel.
Can you help me choose the right Fireball size?
Yes. That choice depends on your weight, board, discipline, local conditions and what you want more of on the water. If you tell us your current setup and your goal, we can normally narrow it down very quickly and stop you buying the wrong size first time.
