AXIS modular foil system

AXIS foils, front wings, rear wings, masts, fuselages and spares

AXIS is one of the most versatile foil systems available, with modular front wings, rear stabilisers, masts, fuselages, boards, screws and spares for wing foiling, SUP foiling, surf foiling, pump foiling, dock starts and downwind foiling.

The strength of AXIS is the upgrade path. You can build a stable first setup, then tune glide, speed, pump, turning and pitch control by changing front wings, rear wings, fuselages or mast options without replacing everything at once.

AXIS foil buying guide

AXIS can be incredibly rewarding, but it is also a system where the right combination matters. Front wing family, rear wing size, fuselage series, mast length and board choice all affect how the foil lifts, turns, pumps and carries speed.

Use the guide below to choose AXIS by discipline, component type and progression path before ordering.

Why choose AXIS?

AXIS suits riders who want a foil system they can grow with. Instead of treating the foil as one fixed product, AXIS lets you build around compatible front wings, rear wings, fuselages and mast options, so you can tune the feel as your riding improves.

That makes it especially useful for riders moving between disciplines: wing foiling, SUP foiling, prone foiling, downwind, pump, dock start and surf foiling. The same rider may want one wing for early lift, another for glide, another for surf turning, and a different rear stabiliser to fine-tune control.

Useful starting points include AXIS front wings, AXIS rear wings, AXIS masts, AXIS fuselages and AXIS screws and spares.

AXIS by riding style

Wing foiling

Choose a stable, predictable setup if you are progressing, or a faster, higher-aspect option once gybes, tacks and stronger-wind riding are more consistent.

Shop wing foil boards

SUP and surf foiling

Look for low-speed lift, smooth control and a front wing that suits your wave size, board volume and take-off style.

Shop SUP foil boards

Downwind foiling

Prioritise glide, low stall speed, pump efficiency and a setup that links bumps without wasting energy.

Pump and dock start

Pump-focused riders need efficient front wings, suitable rear wings and a setup that carries through each pump without feeling too draggy.

Understanding AXIS front wing families

The front wing is the engine of the foil. It controls most of the lift, glide, speed, turning and stall behaviour. With AXIS, choosing the right front wing family is the most important decision in the setup.

Surge is a modern option for riders looking at lift, glide and a fast but still manageable feel. PNG and PNG V2 are closely associated with pump-and-glide performance, linking waves and efficient low-speed flight. ART and ART Pro routes are more focused on high-aspect efficiency, glide and speed. HPS is a strong freeride and speed-focused path once you have the basics in place. Fireball and Spitfire-style wings sit in the more surf, carving and manoeuvre-focused direction.

Useful starting points include AXIS Surge Front Wing, AXIS PNG V2 Front Wing, AXIS ART Pro Front Wing, AXIS HPS Front Wing, AXIS Fireball Front Wing and AXIS Spitfire Front Wing.

Choosing AXIS front wing size

Bigger front wings usually give earlier lift, lower stall speed and more stability. They suit newer riders, heavier riders, lighter wind, SUP foil starts and pump-focused sessions. The trade-off is that they can feel slower and less loose once you improve.

Smaller front wings usually feel faster, more responsive and easier to control when powered, but they need more speed and better technique. Higher-aspect wings are usually better for glide and efficiency, while lower or mid-aspect options often feel more forgiving and easier to turn.

If you are choosing between sizes, send us your weight, board volume, usual wind or wave conditions and current foil experience before ordering.

Rear wings: the fastest way to tune feel

Changing rear stabiliser is one of the quickest ways to change how an AXIS foil feels. A more stable rear wing can calm the setup down and make pitch control easier. A smaller or faster rear wing can reduce drag and make the foil feel looser, quicker and more responsive.

If your front wing is basically right but the foil feels too locked in, too twitchy, too slow or too hard to pump, the rear wing is often the first place to look before changing the whole setup.

Useful options include AXIS Skinny Surf Rear Wings, AXIS Progressive Rear Stabiliser Wing and AXIS Skinny Rear Wings.

Masts: aluminium, carbon, HM and UHM

AXIS mast choice affects stiffness, control, ride height and how direct the foil feels underfoot. Aluminium masts are usually the most cost-effective route and work well for many riders. Carbon, High Modulus and Ultra High Modulus options are aimed at riders who want lower weight, more stiffness and a more refined feel.

Mast length should match your discipline and water depth. Shorter masts are easier for learning, shallow starts and early confidence. Longer masts give more clearance in chop and more room to ride once you are comfortable.

Useful starting points include AXIS 19mm Aluminium Foil Mast, AXIS 16mm Aluminium Foil Mast, AXIS High Modulus Carbon Mast and AXIS Ultra High Modulus Carbon Mast.

Fuselages: Red Series, Black Series, Advance+ and Ti LINK

AXIS fuselages are not just connection parts. They change stability, looseness, pitch behaviour and compatibility. Longer fuselages generally feel calmer and more stable. Shorter fuselages feel looser, more responsive and more surf-focused.

Red Series and Black Series geometry matters because different front wing families require the correct connection and feel. Advance+ and Ti LINK routes add further options for riders building newer or more refined AXIS setups. Do not guess compatibility — fuselage choice must match the front wing, rear wing, mast and intended discipline.

Useful starting points include AXIS Advance+ B-Series Fuselages, AXIS Advance Red-Series Fuselages, AXIS Black Series Fuselage, AXIS Red Series Fuselage and AXIS Ti LINK Fuselage - Titanium.

AXIS foil boards, straps, bags and spares

AXIS is not just foil wings and masts. The wider range includes foil boards, board straps, foil bags, base plates, screws and small spares that help keep the system working properly.

Small parts matter with foiling. Screws, base plates, mast hardware and bags are easy to overlook, but they make the difference between a clean session and a missed one. If you travel with your foil or regularly change wings, a good bag and spare screw kit are well worth considering.

Useful starting points include AXIS Frank Mini Dart Foil Board, AXIS Pocket Trench Foil Board, AXIS Foil Board Single and V Straps, AXIS Foil Quiver Bags and AXIS Foil Base Plate.

Complete your AXIS setup

An AXIS foil system needs to be matched to the board, wing, paddle route and protection you actually use. If the foil is right but the board is too small, the mast too short, the rear wing too draggy or the fuselage too lively, the setup will not feel balanced.

Useful related collections include foils, foil completes, front wings, rear stabilisers, foil masts, fuselages, foil screws, foil boards, foil board bags, wingsurfers and protection.

Try, advise, ride: getting your AXIS setup right

AXIS is powerful because it is modular, but that also means the correct pairing matters. A front wing that is perfect for one rider may feel wrong with the wrong tail, mast, fuselage or board volume.

Our Lymington Try It Now service supports serious wing and foil buyers with product matching, setup advice and demo guidance where suitable. It is especially useful if you are comparing AXIS against other foil systems, changing front wings or building a full setup.

AXIS foils FAQs

Is AXIS good for beginners?

Yes, AXIS can work very well for beginners if the front wing, rear wing, fuselage and mast are chosen correctly. The key is starting with a stable and forgiving setup rather than going too small or too high-performance too early.

Can AXIS foil parts be mixed and matched?

Yes, AXIS is modular, but compatibility still matters. Front wing family, fuselage series, rear wing, mast and connection hardware all need to match. If you are unsure, ask us before ordering.

Which AXIS front wing should I choose?

Choose based on rider weight, board volume, discipline and conditions. Bigger wings usually give earlier lift and more stability. Smaller wings feel faster and more responsive. Higher-aspect wings suit glide and efficiency, while more moderate shapes can feel easier to turn and control.

What is the difference between AXIS Red Series and Black Series fuselages?

They relate to compatibility and feel within the AXIS system. Red Series and Black Series fuselages are designed for different wing families and riding characteristics. Do not choose by colour alone — match the fuselage to the correct front wing, rear wing and discipline.

What is the quickest way to make my AXIS foil feel different?

Rear stabiliser choice and fuselage length are often the quickest feel changes. A different rear wing can tune pitch, pump and looseness, while a shorter or longer fuselage can change stability and turning response. Changing the front wing is the bigger performance change.

Which AXIS mast should I choose?

Beginners and shallow-water riders often start with shorter or more forgiving mast options. More experienced riders may want longer, stiffer or carbon masts for better clearance, control and performance. The right choice depends on discipline, water depth, rider level and budget.

Is AXIS good for downwind foiling?

Yes, AXIS has strong options for downwind foiling, especially where glide, low stall speed and pump efficiency are priorities. The best setup depends on rider weight, board choice, local bumps and how much speed or stability you want.
