Description
Description
If you want an easy, confidence-building foil that still feels lively once your skills start to ramp up, the Duotone Free 2.0 front wing is one of the smartest places to put your money. It takes the proven Free SLS shape and puts it into a tough, value-focused glass layup — giving you early take-off, predictable lift and that “I can relax and learn” stability without feeling like you’re dragging a barge around.
Where it sits in the Duotone foil range
Choose the Free 2.0 if you want the most balanced progression wing — the one you’ll happily keep for longer than your “first foil”. Compared to more specialist wings, it’s tuned to be forgiving at low speed, stable through touchdowns, and still quick enough to feel exciting as your riding improves.
- More stable & easier than higher-performance wings aimed at speed/glide
- More playful & versatile than ultra-lifty “pure beginner” options once you start carving and linking turns
- Best use case: wing foiling freeride progression, wind-foil freeride, SUP/prone cruising and learning clean transitions
Why choose the Free 2.0
- Earlier take-off, less effort: a slightly higher angle of attack helps you rise onto foil without needing perfect technique
- Confidence through the messy phase: stable pitch and predictable lift makes touchdowns and recoveries far less punishing
- One wing that does “most things” well: speed + glide + turning in a genuinely usable mix
- Durable value: glass construction is tough, cost-effective and ideal for real-world UK learning (and the odd bump)
- Consistent feel across sizes: whichever size you choose, the handling stays familiar
Sizes, rider guidance & stabiliser pairing
Use this as a sensible starting point — if you want us to dial it perfectly, tell us your weight, board volume and typical wind strength.
| Front Wing Size | Span | Aspect Ratio | Recommended Stabiliser | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1500cm² (232.5in²) | 95cm (37.5") | 6.0 | C 250 | Lighter/average riders wanting easy lift with a more lively feel; great “first proper freeride wing” |
| 1750cm² (271.3in²) | 102cm (40.3") | 6.0 | C 250 | The safest all-round choice for progression — early take-off, stable cruising, and easy carves |
| 2000cm² (310.0in²) | 110cm (43.5") | 6.0 | C 300 | Heavier riders, lighter-wind sessions, bigger boards, and anyone who wants maximum stall resistance while learning |

FAQs
Which size Free 2.0 should I choose?
As a rule: 1500 suits lighter riders or anyone wanting a slightly more lively feel; 1750 is the safest “do-it-all progression” pick; 2000 is ideal for heavier riders, lighter winds, bigger boards, or if you want maximum stall resistance while learning. If you tell us your weight, board volume and typical wind range, we’ll point you to the right size first time.
Do I need a rear stabiliser as well?
Yes — a front wing needs a rear stabiliser to balance pitch and control. Duotone’s recommended match is the C-Series: C 250 for the 1500/1750, and C 300 for the 2000.
Is the Free 2.0 compatible with my Duotone/Fanatic setup?
The Free 2.0 uses Duotone’s standard 3-bolt M8 front-wing mount used across the Aero platform. If you’re on a modern Duotone/Fanatic Aero fuselage system and unsure on bolt length or fit, send us your mast + fuselage model and we’ll confirm the cleanest hardware combo.
What screws/torque should I use?
Duotone’s guidance is 15 Nm torque. Hardware is M8 (3-bolt). Typical screw lengths are M8x35 (carbon fuse) / M8x30 (alu fuse) plus 2 × M8x30. If you want spares, grab the Duotone Front Wing Screw Set.
Can I demo this wing before buying?
Yes — foils are one of those purchases where 20 minutes on the water saves months of second-guessing. We run demos from The SUP Co x Lymington (our dedicated wing & foil spot). Drop us a message with your weight and current setup and we’ll suggest the best wing size + stabiliser pairing to try.
