Description

If you’re looking for a single board that genuinely makes Foil Assist feel “right”, the Duotone MIDFISH is the one. It’s a compact mid-length shape built specifically around the extra push and cable routing of the Duotone Foil Assist system, but it’s also a brilliant platform for parawing and wing foiling when you want a narrower, more surfy feel than the average wing board.

In plain English: it paddles up and releases easily, stays composed through touchdowns, and feels far smaller underfoot once you’re flying.

Where the MIDFISH sits in the range

The MIDFISH is the “do-it-all” choice for riders who want one mid-length that works across disciplines — prone/assist surf, light-wind cruising, downwind linking, parawing and wing foiling — without stepping up into full downwind missile lengths.

If your main goal is wing freeride/freefly with maximum stability, you’ll often lean Skybrid. If your main goal is assist-led glide and surfy handling, the MIDFISH tends to make more sense.

MIDFISH vs Skybrid: which should you choose?

Choose this if… MIDFISH Skybrid
Foil Assist is your priority Yes – designed around assist balance + tidy cable routing Works, but the MIDFISH is the “reference” feel for assist
You want a surfy, compact feel once flying Yes – narrower outline, reactive underfoot More “platformy” and stable (great, just a different vibe)
You want the easiest standing stability for winging Good if you’re comfortable on narrower boards Yes – very confidence-inspiring for wing starts
Parawing cruising + downwind linking Excellent – tracks well, releases cleanly, tidy deck layout Excellent – a bit more forgiving for standing balance

Shop Skybrid options: Skybrid Bamboo | Skybrid SLS | Skybrid D/LAB | Skybrid Air (inflatable)

Why choose the MIDFISH?

  • Made for Foil Assist: forward mast track position and balanced volume distribution so assisted take-offs feel light, not “barge-like”.
  • Easy release + forgiving touchdowns: the low-rocker mid-length outline builds speed quickly, and the hull shape helps it recover when you come down.
  • Surfy handling: narrower outline keeps it agile through turns and transitions once you’re flying.
  • Parawing friendly: tracks well while you tension the lines, then feels tidy and compact when you’re stashed and gliding.
  • Wing capable: a great choice for riders who prefer a narrower, more performance feel (especially once you’re confident with your starts).

Fittings & compatibility: standard US foil tracks (plate mount), plus strap insert options on 5'8" and 5'11". The MIDFISH pairs perfectly with the Duotone Foil Assist ecosystem, and also works brilliantly as a conventional foil board without assist.

FAQs

Is the MIDFISH only for Foil Assist?

No — it’s designed around Foil Assist, but it’s still a “normal” foil board with standard plate-mount US tracks. That means you can run it with a regular foil setup for winging, parawing or prone foiling, then add assist later if you want.

Is the MIDFISH a good board for parawing?

Yes. The mid-length outline helps the board track while you build line tension, and once you’re up it feels compact and reactive. If you’re building a parawing quiver, it also sits nicely alongside a more stability-led option like the Skybrid (especially if you’re newer to standing parawing starts).

Can I wing foil on the MIDFISH?

Absolutely — especially if you’re already comfortable with your starts and you prefer a narrower, more performance-oriented board once flying. If you want maximum standing stability (or you’re learning), a Skybrid is often the easier route.

Which size should I choose?

As a quick starting point: 5'2 (38L) suits lighter/advanced riders and prone/assist performance; 5'5 (48L) is the “nimble all-rounder” for confident riders; 5'8 (58L) is the sweet spot for many riders wanting wing/parawing/assist versatility (and it supports strap options); 5'11 (78L) gives the most stability and float for heavier riders, learning phases, or if you want easier standing starts and paddle-ups.

MIDFISH or Skybrid: what’s the simplest way to decide?

If you want the most confidence and stability for wing freeride/freefly and parawing, choose Skybrid. If you want a board that feels purpose-built for Foil Assist (and still wings/parawings brilliantly), choose the MIDFISH.

Specifications

  • Features

    Mid-length, low rocker shape
Gets you moving quickly with less effort — whether you’re paddling into a bump, using assist to link runs, or trying to build speed for a light-wind start.

    Narrow outline
Feels more precise than wide “platform” boards. You get cleaner rail-to-rail transitions and a more surfy feel, without the board fighting you.

    Forward foil box position
Foil Assist adds thrust and changes the way the board trims at take-off. The MIDFISH’s track placement helps keep stance natural and the ride balanced.

    V-bottom concave
This is the difference between a board that “sticks” on touchdowns and one that skims, releases and lets you get going again.

    Lowered front-foot deck
Helps lock in stance and keeps pressure more even between front and back foot — really noticeable when you’re learning to link assisted runs or handle messy water.

    Fishtail design
Adds a bit of push and stability at take-off, and also creates a practical, clean route for Foil Assist cable management to your harness setup.
