Description

The Duotone Mast AL 3BS is the workhorse aluminium mast in Duotone’s current foil system, built for riders who want a stiff, direct feel, broad compatibility and everyday durability without stepping straight into premium carbon pricing. If you want one mast that can cover a wide spread of foiling disciplines and still feel precise under load, this is the sensible place to start.

For a lot of riders, this is the mast that makes the most sense. It gives you that connected, planted feel between board and foil, but with the kind of toughness and value that suits regular use, travel and progression. Whether you are winging, prone foiling, SUP foiling, pumping or putting together a dependable mixed-use setup, the AL 3BS is designed to keep things simple.

Where it sits in the range

Within the Duotone mast line-up, the Mast AL 3BS is the practical performance option. It sits below the carbon masts in price, but it is not an “entry-only” product. It is for riders who want real stiffness and a dependable connection, and who would rather spend their budget wisely across the full setup than chase marginal gains too early.

If you want the easiest possible rigging routine, the Duotone Mast AL 3BS QM (Mono) is the better fit thanks to its tool-free quick-mount system. If your priority is the lightest weight and highest-end feel, look at the Duotone Foil Mast Aero SLS Carbon or the Duotone Foil Mast Aero Slim D/LAB. But for most riders wanting performance, longevity and value, the AL 3BS is the mast that gets the nod.

Why choose the Duotone Mast AL 3BS?

  • Stiff and direct on the water – gives you a connected, confidence-inspiring feel through turns, touchdowns and recoveries.
  • Strong value in the Duotone system – a serious performance mast without the price jump of carbon.
  • 3BS+ compatibility – works within Duotone’s newer foil ecosystem, making future upgrades much easier.
  • Durable aluminium construction – ideal for riders who want dependable day-in, day-out use.
  • Covers multiple disciplines – suitable across wing, prone, SUP, pump and more depending on chosen length.
  • Smart length options – four sizes let you tune the setup for shallow water, all-round use or rougher conditions.

Which size should you choose?

Size Best for Feel on the water
60cm / 23.6" Shallow water spots, pump foiling, prone and specialist use Compact, forgiving and ideal where depth is limited
75cm / 29.5" Flatter water, smaller surf, early progression Easy to manage, manoeuvrable and less intimidating
82cm / 32.3" Best all-round option for most riders The sweet spot for mixed conditions and general wing / foil use
90cm / 35.4" Rougher water, more clearance, faster riding and windfoil crossover More room before ventilation, better for choppier or more committed riding

If you are unsure, the 82cm is the safest all-round choice for most wingfoilers. The 75cm is a good shout if you want something a little easier and more manageable, while the 90cm is better for riders who know they want extra height and clearance.

Helpful reading & buying advice

Is the Duotone Mast AL 3BS good enough, or should I go straight to carbon?

For a lot of riders, this aluminium mast is the smarter buy. It is stiff, durable and performs well across multiple disciplines. Carbon makes sense when you are chasing lower weight and the most premium feel possible, but the AL 3BS is far from a compromise for everyday foiling.

Which mast length should I choose?

If you want one safe recommendation, start with the 82cm. It is the best all-round length for most wingfoilers and mixed-use riders. Choose 75cm if you want something a little easier and more compact, 60cm for shallow water or specialist use, and 90cm for rougher water or when you want more clearance.

Will this fit my existing Duotone foil setup?

It is designed for the newer 3BS+ system and works with the Duotone Aero AL 3BS fuselage and compatible D/LAB-based setups. If you already own older Duotone or Fanatic foil parts, send us your current mast, fuselage and wing details and we will confirm compatibility before you buy.

Should I buy this mast or the Quick Mount version?

Choose the standard Mast AL 3BS if you want straightforward value, stiffness and reliability. Choose the AL 3BS QM (Mono) if fast rigging and easy transport matter to you and you like the idea of leaving your base plate set on the board.

Can I use this for SUP foil and downwind foiling?

Yes, the AL 3BS is a versatile mast platform and the 75cm or 82cm lengths will be the most relevant for many SUP foil and downwind riders. The right choice still depends on your board, foil size, local depth and the kind of water state you normally ride.

Specifications

  • Features

    3BS+ connection
The biggest reason this mast matters is system compatibility. Duotone’s 3BS+ interface is designed to work with current Duotone Fuselage Aero 3BS AL and compatible D/LAB-based setups, which makes it a strong foundation if you are building or updating a modern Duotone foil.

    High-grade aluminium construction
Aluminium still makes a huge amount of sense for many riders. It is robust, reassuringly solid and generally better suited to riders who want reliability, travel resilience and less worry about knocks and day-to-day wear.

    High-wall base plate
The base plate has been designed to feel secure and solid under load. In real terms, that means less vague flex under your feet and a more “one-piece” connection between board and foil.

    Low-drag profile
This mast is shaped to keep drag down while still maintaining stiffness. That helps it feel smooth through the water and more efficient than people often expect from an aluminium mast.

    Helicoil threaded inserts
This matters if you keep your gear for more than one season. Helicoil threads help maintain secure, consistent fastening over repeated assembly and disassembly, which is especially important on a foil that gets used properly.
