Description

Duotone Free 2.0 Foil Wing Set

If you want a foil that makes progression easier without buying something you will quickly outgrow, the Duotone Free 2.0 Foil Wing Set is one of the strongest all-round choices in the Duotone range. It combines easy, gradual lift with excellent pitch stability, a very low stall speed and enough glide, speed and carving ability to remain genuinely enjoyable as your riding improves.

The Free 2.0 is particularly well suited to wingfoilers who value predictable take-offs, control through gybes and touchdowns, and a wide usable speed range. It does not need an aggressive pumping technique to get flying, yet once up it feels considerably more lively than a traditional oversized beginner foil.

This Wing Set is supplied as a properly matched front and rear wing combination, with the 1300 paired with PX195, 1600 with PX225 and 1900 with PX260. Mast and fuselage are not included.

Where does the Free 2.0 sit in the Duotone foil range?

The Free 2.0 is Duotone's accessible freeride and all-round foil. It is aimed at riders who want substantially more versatility than a dedicated first-flight foil, but who do not necessarily need the extra technicality of a high-aspect performance design.

Its centre section carries plenty of area and chord, which produces reassuring lift and pitch stability. Towards the tips the wing becomes thinner and more refined, allowing it to roll into turns surprisingly easily for a foil with this much low-speed ability.

If your priority is maximum glide, pumping efficiency and more advanced freefly or downwind performance, explore the newer performance options in our foil front wing range. For straightforward freeride, progression and general UK wingfoiling, however, the Free 2.0 remains a particularly easy foil to recommend.

Why choose the Duotone Free 2.0?

  • Easy passive take-off: builds lift progressively rather than suddenly, reducing the need for perfect pumping technique.
  • Excellent low-speed stability: a low stall speed gives you more time to correct mistakes and makes transitions less intimidating.
  • Strong pitch control: helps the foil feel settled rather than constantly wanting to rise or drop underneath you.
  • Wide speed range: comfortable at progression speeds but capable of significantly more pace as your confidence grows.
  • Natural carving: thinned-out tips help the foil roll smoothly from side to side without losing the reassuring feel of the centre section.
  • Good pump and glide: efficient enough for connecting sections, pumping through lulls and enjoying small swell rather than simply mowing backwards and forwards.
  • Controlled tip breaches: designed to remain manageable when a wingtip momentarily breaks the surface.
  • Carbon/fibreglass hybrid construction: carbon outer layers and fibreglass inner layers balance stiffness, durability, flex and cost.
  • Matched PX stabiliser: each front wing size comes with the rear wing Duotone has designed to complement it.

Choosing your Free 2.0 size

Wing Set Best suited to Ride feel
1300 / PX195 Lighter riders, stronger winds and progressing riders wanting more manoeuvrability Fastest and most agile Free 2.0, while retaining good low-speed control
1600 / PX225 The broadest all-round progression and freeride use Excellent balance of early lift, stability, glide and turning
1900 / PX260 Heavier riders, lighter winds, larger boards and riders prioritising easy take-off Maximum lift, slowest stall speed and the most confidence-building ride

Our pick for the widest range of riders: the 1600/PX225 is the logical starting point if you want one Free 2.0 for general freeride wingfoiling. Go to the 1900/PX260 when easy lift and low-speed stability take priority, or down to the 1300/PX195 when you are ready to trade some low-end lift for a quicker, more agile foil.

Rider weight alone does not determine foil size. Your board volume, wing size, local wind strength, water state and existing ability all matter. If you are unsure, tell us your weight, board and current level before ordering and we can help narrow it down.

Carbon and fibreglass hybrid construction

The current Free 2.0 uses a carbon and fibreglass hybrid laminate. Carbon is used through the outer layers with fibreglass internally, giving Duotone a useful middle ground between outright carbon performance and a heavier budget construction.

On the water that matters because the wing retains a positive, connected feel without turning the Free into an unnecessarily expensive performance foil. It is a construction that makes sense for riders who intend to use their foil regularly rather than simply chase the lightest possible component weight.

The PX stabiliser makes a difference

The matched PX stabilisers are an important part of how the Free 2.0 rides. Rather than treating the rear wing as an afterthought, Duotone pairs each front wing with a stabiliser sized to preserve pitch control while keeping the foil responsive enough to carve and pump.

The result is a wing set that feels balanced straight out of the box rather than requiring experimentation with different rear wings before the foil starts to behave properly.

Build a complete Free 2.0 foil

This product is the front wing and matched rear stabiliser set. You will still require a compatible mast and fuselage to make a complete foil.

For a durable, good-value Duotone build, pair it with the Duotone Mast AL 3BS and Duotone Fuselage Aero 3BS AL.

For most general wingfoil progression, a longer fuselage produces the calmer and more pitch-stable setup, while a shorter fuselage makes the same wing noticeably more agile. If you are building from individual components, our Duotone foil compatibility guide explains the different mast, fuselage, 3BS and tail systems in more detail.

Compatibility

The Free 2.0 uses Duotone's three-screw M8 front-wing mounting arrangement and is designed to work with compatible Duotone Aero fuselages, including the current Aero 3BS AL fuselage.

Important: the 3BS designation refers primarily to the mast-to-fuselage system; it should not be confused with the front-wing mounting screws. If you are combining the Free 2.0 with an older Fanatic or Duotone mast/fuselage, send us the exact model or a photograph before ordering and we can confirm the required parts.

Package includes

  • Duotone Free 2.0 front wing in your selected size
  • Matched Duotone PX rear stabiliser
  • Front and rear wing protective covers
  • Front-wing mounting hardware
  • Rear stabiliser mounting hardware

Not included: mast, fuselage, board, board-to-mast hardware and any other foil components unless specifically shown as part of a separate package.

Who should buy the Free 2.0?

The Free 2.0 makes particular sense for progressing wingfoilers, first-time foil buyers who want equipment with some longevity, heavier riders wanting dependable low-speed lift, and experienced riders who simply prefer an easy freeride foil over something highly technical.

It is also a sensible foil for inconsistent UK conditions. Being able to stay flying through a lull, recover from a poor gybe or ride slower without dropping abruptly off foil often adds more to a session than chasing outright top speed.

Who might prefer something else?

If you are already an experienced foiler and your priority has shifted towards maximum glide, extended pumping, freefly, parawing or downwind performance, the Free 2.0 may eventually feel more lift-orientated than you need. In that case, browse the latest performance foil front wings or read our Duotone 2027 foil range guide before deciding.

If your priority is easy freeride wingfoiling and rapid progression rather than specialist performance, the Free 2.0 remains the simpler and often smarter choice.

Try before you buy

Foil size can make a bigger difference than almost any other component in your setup. If you are actively comparing options, selected foil equipment can be tested through our Try It Now service at The SUP Co x Lymington, subject to suitability and availability.

Duotone Free 2.0 FAQs

Is the Duotone Free 2.0 suitable for a beginner?

Yes. The 1600 and particularly the 1900 are very suitable for progression because the Free 2.0 takes off gradually, has excellent pitch stability and can remain flying at relatively low speed. Complete beginners should still choose the size around their weight, board and conditions rather than simply buying the biggest option.

Which Free 2.0 size should I choose?

The 1900/PX260 gives the easiest take-off and maximum low-speed support. The 1600/PX225 is the strongest all-round option for a broad range of freeride riders. The 1300/PX195 is noticeably more agile and makes most sense for lighter riders, stronger conditions or riders who are already progressing well.

Does the Free 2.0 Wing Set include a mast and fuselage?

No. This is a matched front wing and rear stabiliser package. A compatible mast and fuselage are required to complete the foil.

What is the difference between the Free 2.0 and a higher-aspect foil?

The Free 2.0 prioritises easy lift, stability and forgiving handling. A more performance-orientated high-aspect foil will normally give greater glide and pumping efficiency, but can require better technique and more speed to feel at its best. The Free 2.0 is the easier option for general freeride and progression.

Can I use the Free 2.0 for waves?

Yes. The Free 2.0 has enough glide and surprisingly intuitive carving for small-wave and swell riding, particularly as your wingfoil skills progress. Riders specialising in surf foiling and aggressive carving may eventually prefer a more dedicated surf-orientated front wing.

Why buy the complete Wing Set rather than the front wing on its own?

The Wing Set removes one of the biggest compatibility and tuning questions by supplying the front wing with its intended PX stabiliser. If you do not already own the appropriate rear wing, this is generally the cleaner way to build the setup.

Will it fit my existing Duotone or Fanatic foil?

It is designed around Duotone's compatible Aero foil system, but Duotone and Fanatic foil hardware has evolved through several generations. If you are mixing model years, send us the exact mast and fuselage details before ordering so we can confirm compatibility and screw requirements.

Specifications

  • Features

    Passive take-off
The Free 2.0 is designed to lift smoothly and progressively. That matters because early flights feel calmer and less intimidating, especially when your timing is still developing.

    Pitch-stable feel
One of the most important things in a progression foil is how settled it feels fore and aft. The Free 2.0 stays composed rather than constantly trying to climb or dive, which helps you build confidence faster.

    Lifty centre section
Duotone have put plenty of usable surface area through the middle of the wing. On the water, that translates to easier low-speed lift, friendlier stall behaviour and less punishment for imperfect technique.

    Thinned-out tips
This keeps the foil from feeling overly barge-like in turns. You still get the lift and security you want, but with a more responsive and playful feel once you start carving.

    Modern moustache-style curvature
This updated outline helps the wing feel controlled and intuitive, and it also makes those occasional tip breaches less dramatic than they can be on twitchier shapes.

    Hybrid carbon/fibreglass construction
This construction balances stiffness, strength, durability and price really well. It is a practical choice for riders who want performance and toughness without immediately stepping into the top-end D/LAB price bracket.

    Matched PX stabiliser pairing
A foil only feels right when the front wing and rear stabiliser are working together. This set takes the guesswork out by pairing each Free 2.0 size with the PX stabiliser Duotone recommend for that wing.
