The Duotone Frontpiece AL 3BS is one of the most useful additions to the Duotone foil system, opening up combinations that were previously difficult or unavailable. Its purpose is simple: it allows compatible Duotone SLS and Original front wings to be combined with D/LAB tails and Monobloc tails, bringing the reduced drag, efficiency and direct response of Duotone's premium tail platform to a much wider range of foil setups.

This is particularly valuable if you ride larger SLS front wings and want to improve glide, pumping efficiency or overall response without changing your complete foil. Larger wings such as the Duotone Glide 3.0 SLS 1250 and 1400, as well as the Amp 2.0 SLS 1550 and 1800, can now be paired with the latest D/LAB tail options through this 23 cm aluminium frontpiece.

Rather than forcing riders into one complete construction platform, the Frontpiece AL 3BS makes the Duotone foil system considerably more modular. If you already own the right SLS or Original front wing, it can provide a very effective performance upgrade path without replacing components that are still perfectly suited to the way you ride.

Why choose the Duotone Frontpiece AL 3BS?

The biggest reason to choose this frontpiece is compatibility. Duotone's D/LAB Monobloc tails offer extremely clean, low-drag connections and highly optimised tail geometries, but until now the advantages of these tails have been more closely tied to the D/LAB foil platform.

The Frontpiece AL 3BS bridges that gap. It lets riders retain a compatible SLS or Original front wing while moving to a D/LAB tail, creating a hybrid setup that combines the strength and practicality required by larger front wings with the performance advantages of Duotone's latest tail designs.

For riders who spend time pumping, freeflying, downwinding, parawinging or simply trying to carry more speed and glide between manoeuvres, reducing tail drag can make a meaningful difference. The foil maintains momentum more readily, transitions between bumps or sections more efficiently and can feel cleaner through changes in speed.

23 cm aluminium construction

The Frontpiece AL 3BS measures 23 cm and uses a high-grade aluminium construction. The choice of aluminium is important here. Larger front wings create increased span and torsional loads, so the priority is a stiff, strong and dependable connection rather than simply pursuing the lowest possible component weight.

The result is a frontpiece designed to remain solid under load while still giving riders access to premium D/LAB tail performance. It is particularly relevant to larger foil combinations where a complete carbon D/LAB fuselage solution may not be appropriate.

Modular 60–70 cm fuselage configurations

The 23 cm Frontpiece AL 3BS combines with different D/LAB tail lengths to create overall fuselage lengths of approximately 60 to 70 cm. This means the tail itself does more than determine stabiliser characteristics; it can also influence the overall geometry and handling of the foil.

A shorter overall setup generally favours a more responsive and reactive feel, while additional length can provide a calmer and more tracking-orientated ride. The ability to select different D/LAB tails therefore gives experienced riders another useful way to tune the foil towards their preferred discipline.

Choosing a D/LAB Monobloc tail

For riders prioritising pump, glide and efficiency, the Duotone Monobloc Tail H D/LAB is one of the most interesting combinations with the Frontpiece AL 3BS. Its high-aspect design is intended for efficient pumping, downwind riding, parawinging and freefly wing foiling.

The H 130 uses a 43 cm tail section and produces an overall fuselage length of approximately 66 cm, while the H 150 uses a 40 cm tail section for an approximately 63 cm fuselage. This allows the tail size and fuselage geometry to be matched more closely to front-wing size and riding style.

For riders focused on explosive freestyle performance, the Duotone Monobloc Tail F D/LAB takes a different approach. Its compact 37 cm tail creates an approximately 60 cm fuselage and is designed around responsiveness, power, pop and controlled aerial manoeuvres.

An important upgrade for larger Glide 3.0 SLS setups

The Frontpiece AL 3BS becomes particularly relevant with larger Glide 3.0 SLS front wings. The 1250 and 1400 sizes generate the span and loads that make a strong aluminium connection particularly useful, while these are also exactly the sort of efficient front wings that can benefit from being paired with a low-drag Monobloc tail.

For a rider already using a Glide 3.0 SLS, the Frontpiece can therefore make more sense than replacing the complete foil simply to access a different tail platform. It creates a logical upgrade route: retain the front wing characteristics you already like and tune the rear of the foil for greater glide, efficiency or responsiveness.

Who is the Frontpiece AL 3BS for?

We would primarily recommend the Frontpiece AL 3BS to riders who already have, or are building around, a compatible Duotone SLS or Original front wing and specifically want access to the D/LAB tail and Monobloc tail system.

It makes particular sense for experienced riders who understand what they want to change about their existing foil. If your aim is better pump and glide, a different turning character, lower tail drag or a more discipline-specific setup, this component gives you considerably more freedom to tune the system.

If you are simply continuing to use your existing conventional SLS or Original foil configuration and have no intention of moving to a D/LAB or Monobloc tail, you may not need the Frontpiece. Likewise, if you are building a complete foil around a D/LAB front wing, the appropriate dedicated D/LAB fuselage system will normally be the more logical route.
