The Duotone Monobloc Tail F D/LAB is Duotone's dedicated freestyle rear foil assembly, developed specifically around the Pop D/LAB for riders who want maximum pop, consistent front-foot pressure and a precise, locked-in foil through take-off, flight and landing.

Rather than designing the F165 around maximum glide or an especially loose surf feel, Duotone has tuned the stabiliser angle, tip twist and compact 37 cm tail around explosive aerial performance. The result is a rear end that allows an experienced rider to load the foil aggressively, accelerate into a trick and release that energy with confidence.

The natural pairing is the Duotone Pop D/LAB 2027 front wing. Together they create Duotone's purpose-built freestyle foil platform, with the F165 used across the Pop 500, 650 and 800 front-wing sizes.

Built around the Pop D/LAB

The F165 is not simply another stabiliser option added to the Duotone range. It was developed as the dedicated partner for the Pop D/LAB front wing.

The Pop itself is designed to carry speed into take-off while maintaining strong and consistent front-foot pressure. The Monobloc F continues that character through the rear of the foil. This is important in freestyle because the rider needs to know where the foil is underneath them when loading against it; an overly loose or changing pitch feel can make the timing of powered take-offs much less predictable.

Duotone uses the same F165 tail across the Pop D/LAB 500, 650 and 800, so the front-wing size can be changed according to rider weight, wind strength and required lift without changing the basic rear-end character.

What does the F165 feel like?

Expect a firm, direct and powerful foil rather than a rear end designed to disappear beneath your feet. Increased front-foot pressure gives you something definite to push against when accelerating and preparing to jump.

The compact 37 cm tail length then keeps reactions quick. Once loaded, the foil can release energy rapidly, which is where the F165's pop and re-pop characteristics become particularly relevant for modern wingfoil freestyle.

This same character carries through landing. The stabiliser is designed to retain pitch control under load so that an experienced rider has a predictable platform when reconnecting with the water and immediately setting up for the next move.

Who is the Monobloc Tail F D/LAB for?

We would primarily recommend the F165 to advanced wingfoilers and dedicated freestyle riders using, or planning to use, the Pop D/LAB. It is designed for riders already comfortable riding powered, jumping and controlling the foil through more aggressive manoeuvres.

It can also make sense for fast kite foiling where a compact, controlled and powerful rear end is desirable.

It is not the automatic choice simply because it is the newest D/LAB tail. Riders whose priority is downwind efficiency, parawing or sustained pumping should look towards the Duotone Monobloc Tail H D/LAB. The F is a specialist performance component and its benefits are most obvious when your riding genuinely demands its additional front-foot pressure and freestyle tuning.

F vs H vs PX vs S – which Duotone tail?

The key distinction is that the F is about how effectively you can load and release the foil. If your priority is simply staying on foil for as long as possible, choose an H-orientated setup. If you want a foil that feels powerful underneath you as you accelerate into freestyle moves, the F165 is the specialist choice.

Monobloc construction

Traditional foil systems separate the fuselage tail and rear stabiliser into individual components. A Monobloc design integrates these elements into one carbon structure.

For the rider, the important benefits are direct response, reduced drag and efficient power transfer. There is less hardware around the stabiliser and the complete shape can be optimised as one hydrodynamic component rather than treating the tail and rear wing separately.

On the F165 this complements its freestyle purpose particularly well. When you load the foil aggressively, its stiff D/LAB carbon construction transfers that input immediately rather than introducing unnecessary movement through the rear assembly.

37 cm tail length

The Monobloc F uses a particularly compact 37 cm tail section, resulting in an approximate complete fuselage length of 60 cm when fitted to its intended D/LAB platform.

A shorter tail makes the foil more reactive around pitch and helps reduce drag, but Duotone has balanced that short length with the F165 stabiliser's profile, angle and tip twist to retain the strong front-foot pressure required for freestyle.

This is therefore not simply a case of shortening a conventional fuselage. The tail length and stabiliser have been developed as one matched system.

Because all three Pop sizes use the F165, the decision is mainly about how much front-wing area you need.

• Pop 500: the smallest and most performance-focused option for riders wanting minimum foil size and maximum high-wind freestyle performance.
• Pop 650: the key performance size within the range and a strong choice for experienced freestyle riders wanting a balance of speed, lift and control.
• Pop 800: produces more lift and makes the Pop concept accessible to heavier riders or lighter-wind freestyle conditions.

3BS+ and mast compatibility

The F165 uses Duotone's 3BS+ architecture with the additional fourth screw. This additional connection is designed to increase pitch stability when the foil is being subjected to the substantial loads generated during powered freestyle riding.

The SUP Company buying advice

The F165 makes most sense when freestyle is the reason you are changing your foil. If you are already riding a general freeride foil and want easier pumping or more glide, this is unlikely to be the correct upgrade. Its advantages are much more specific: stronger front-foot pressure, fast response, precise pitch control and the ability to load the foil hard before releasing into a jump.

For a committed freestyle rider pairing it with the Pop D/LAB, however, that specialisation is exactly the point. Front wing and rear tail have been developed to work towards the same objective rather than compromising between freeride, surf and downwind performance.
