Description

The Duotone Unit 2027 is the benchmark all-round wing in Duotone's range, designed for riders who want one wing platform capable of covering freeride, freestyle and wave riding without being pushed into a specialist design. For 2027, Duotone has refined the Unit around the areas that make the biggest difference on the water: a shorter strut reduces swing weight, profile distribution has been reworked for more efficient power and improved flagging, canopy tension and tip twist have been fine-tuned, visibility has improved and a greater proportion of the canopy now uses MOD3 S.

The result is a more compact, controlled and intuitive Unit. It is easier to move through gybes and tacks, feels cleaner when pumping and accelerating, responds more directly to your hands and sits more calmly when depowered for waves or swell. Importantly, the standard Unit retains the more forgiving character of Duotone's Original construction, making it particularly relevant to real-world UK conditions where wind strength is rarely perfectly constant.

Duotone positions the Unit as its bestselling wing and, from a buying perspective, that is easy to understand. It offers enough performance for experienced riders while remaining accessible to someone progressing through their first proper foiling, gybes and tacks. If you are looking for a high-quality wing that you can continue using as your riding develops rather than replacing as soon as you improve, the Duotone Unit 2027 is one of the strongest places to start.

Duotone Unit 2027 – key reasons to choose it

  • True freeride, freestyle and wave versatility: one wing platform capable of covering everyday freeride, manoeuvres, jumping and genuine wave riding.
  • Shorter strut for 2027: reduced swing weight creates a more compact feel and makes the wing easier to move through transitions.
  • Balanced power delivery: smoother, more predictable pull through gusts and lulls.
  • Refined profile distribution: efficient power generation with improved stability when the wing is flagged.
  • Optimised canopy tension and tip twist: better draft stability, cleaner aerodynamics and a more direct response.
  • Improved window layout: greater visibility around the wing without unnecessarily compromising canopy performance.
  • Increased MOD3 S usage: lightweight, low-stretch canopy material designed to maintain its profile and performance.
  • Wide, stiff leading-edge handle: more secure control when surfing, freeflying or riding swell.
  • Moulded mini-batten pockets: help support canopy stability and long-term durability.
  • Fusion control compatibility: choose between separate Carbon handles and a continuous Carbon boom on compatible sizes.
  • Ten sizes from 2.0m to 6.5m: enough range to build an entire wing quiver around one familiar handling platform.

What's new on the Duotone Unit 2027?

The 2027 Unit is an evolution of an already successful design rather than change for the sake of a new model year. Duotone's development work is concentrated around handling, aerodynamic stability, power delivery, flagging and visibility.

Shorter strut – less swing weight and a more compact wing

The centre strut has been shortened for 2027. Reducing the amount of structure extending away from your hands lowers swing weight and makes the Unit feel more compact when it is moving.

That matters throughout a session. During a gybe there is less wing to transfer from one side of the board to the other. In a tack it is easier to reposition overhead. Pumping feels more coordinated, and when you begin jumping or rotating the reduced swing weight makes it easier to control where the wing sits.

The revised geometry also helps when the wind changes. Rather than feeling cumbersome as a gust hits or the wind briefly drops, the Unit is easier to reposition and control, contributing to the smoother power delivery that defines the 2027 model.

Refined profile distribution

Duotone has reduced profile depth through the centre of the wing while increasing profile further towards the quarter span. This redistributes how power is generated across the wing.

In practical terms, the Unit produces efficient drive without relying on an overly deep central profile. It also improves stability when the wing is depowered, helping it remain balanced when flagged during wave and swell riding.

This is why wing area alone never tells the full story. Profile depth, twist, canopy tension and where that profile sits across the span can make two wings of identical square metre area feel completely different.

Optimised canopy tension and tip twist

Canopy tension and wing-tip twist have also been fine-tuned. These changes work with the revised profile to help the Unit retain a cleaner aerodynamic shape as loading and apparent wind change.

Sheet in and the wing responds cleanly. Build speed and the draft remains controlled. Ease the wing away and it depowers predictably rather than becoming unstable. That consistency is useful for experienced riders and particularly valuable when learning manoeuvres, because the wing gives you a repeatable response.

New window layout

The updated windows improve visibility around the wing. This is useful when approaching other water users, preparing for a transition, checking downwind traffic or riding at busier coastal locations.

Duotone has revised the positioning while maintaining the surrounding canopy structure required for performance.

Duotone Unit 2027 features explained

Balanced power delivery

The Unit is designed around usable rather than aggressive power. That distinction is important. Maximum peak pull does not automatically make a wing easier to pump, faster to foil or more enjoyable in variable conditions.

The 2027 Unit is designed to build power predictably, allowing you to concentrate on board speed and foil control rather than continually correcting the wing. When a gust arrives, the more forgiving Original frame and refined canopy help smooth the change in load.

For typical UK riding – where gusts, wind shadows, tide, chop and swell can all appear during the same session – that controllability is one of the standard Unit's biggest strengths.

Compact handling

Reduced swing weight makes the Unit quicker to redirect and less tiring to manoeuvre. It benefits beginners learning to control the wing overhead, intermediate riders working on gybes and tacks, and advanced riders moving into freestyle or waves.

Direct response without an excessively rigid feel

The refined canopy gives the 2027 Unit a more direct connection through your hands, but the Original construction deliberately retains more forgiving flex than the premium SLS and D/LAB models.

That can be an advantage during long sessions or in inconsistent wind. The wing responds clearly to input while the structure can still absorb some of the violence of a sudden gust.

Stable flagging for waves and swell

Once you start wave riding, the job of the wing changes. Instead of constantly powering the board, you often want it to become neutral while you concentrate on the foil and the energy in the water.

The refined profile distribution helps the 2027 Unit remain balanced in this flagged position, while the shorter strut reduces the amount of wing moving around behind you.

Wide, stiff leading-edge handle

The Unit uses a wide and stiff leading-edge handle for wave and freefly riding. A more positive handle gives clearer control over the wing's position while flagged, making small corrections easier when carving through swell or connecting sections.

Moulded mini-batten pockets

Moulded mini-batten pockets support the canopy and contribute to stability and longevity. Their role is subtle, but controlling the trailing area of the wing helps maintain cleaner airflow and reduce unwanted movement as speed increases.

MOD3 S canopy – what does it actually do?

The 2027 Unit uses a higher proportion of MOD3 S through the canopy. Duotone specifies MOD3 S at approximately 69g/m² compared with 87g/m² for MOD3.

The useful difference is not simply the weight saving. MOD3 S is designed to minimise stretch under load, allowing the canopy to retain its intended aerodynamic profile more consistently.

  • Better draft stability: the centre of effort remains more predictable as the wind changes.
  • Smooth power delivery: useful when pumping, accelerating and riding through gusts.
  • Cleaner powered canopy: less unwanted deformation supports aerodynamic efficiency.
  • Strong top-end control: the wing remains more composed as you approach the top of its usable range.
  • Effective depower: useful before transitions and when managing stronger gusts.
  • Consistent long-term performance: reduced stretch helps preserve the wing's intended profile through regular use.

Why choose the standard Original Unit?

Duotone's 2027 Unit family spans Original, SLS, SLS Concept Blue and D/LAB. The standard Unit should not simply be considered the cheaper version of the premium models.

Duotone positions Original construction around solid performance, versatility, accessibility, proven quality and durability. Its inflated Dacron structure is also more forgiving than the premium frame materials used further up the range.

For many riders, that softer structural response is useful. It allows the wing to absorb part of the load from gusts and gives a comfortable feel during longer sessions while still delivering genuine performance.

If you ride regularly but do not need to chase the lightest possible wing or the most rigid frame available, the standard Unit often provides the best balance of price, durability, performance and ease of use.

Freeride performance

Freeride is where the Unit's breadth becomes most obvious. It generates useful low-end drive for accelerating the board and foil but remains controlled once you are flying.

It is equally comfortable cruising, improving upwind angles, learning manoeuvres, dealing with chop, covering distance or simply making the most of an ordinary session.

If you do not want to decide whether you are a wave rider, freestyle rider or dedicated freerider before choosing your wing, the Unit is exactly the sort of platform that keeps those options open.

Gybes, tacks and progression

A good progression wing needs to behave predictably when your attention is divided between board, foil and wing. The shorter strut helps because there is less swing weight to reposition through a transition.

The stable draft also gives you a repeatable point of reference through your hands. As your gybes and tacks improve, the Unit has enough response and performance to continue progressing rather than becoming equipment you immediately need to replace.

Wave and freefly performance

The Unit is not a wave-only design, but it is a very capable wave wing for riders who also want strong freeride and freestyle performance.

The shorter strut reduces swing weight when flagged, the refined profile improves stability and the wide leading-edge handle gives a secure grip as you depower and concentrate on the foil.

If waves are one part of your riding, rather than your only discipline, the Unit makes considerable sense because you do not sacrifice everyday powered performance to gain useful freefly ability.

Freestyle and jumping

The compact handling also works well for jumping and freestyle progression. Reduced swing weight makes rotations easier to initiate and control, while the stable canopy gives a clear connection as you load the wing before take-off.

The Unit remains broader and more accessible than a specialist competition freestyle design, which makes it well suited to riders learning their first jumps, grabs and rotations while still wanting an excellent everyday wing.

Fusion Handles or Fusion Boom?

The Duotone Unit 2027 uses the modular Fusion control system, allowing compatible sizes to run either separate Carbon handles or a continuous Carbon boom.

Important: Duotone's 2027 wings are supplied without handles or boom. You therefore need to add the appropriate Fusion option separately unless you already own a compatible one.

Both systems use lightweight Carbon construction, an ergonomic pistol-style grip, a flush connection into the strut attachment and an oval Carbon tube measuring approximately 22.5mm x 26.5mm.

Choose Fusion Handles if you prefer:

  • Clearly defined front and rear hand positions.
  • Easy-to-find grip locations during manoeuvres.
  • Ergonomic hand angles.
  • A compact setup when packing or travelling.
  • The familiar feel of separate wing handles.

Complete the wing with the Duotone Fusion Handle Set.

Choose the Fusion Boom if you prefer:

  • The freedom to position your hands anywhere along the control surface.
  • Easy hand movement through gybes and tacks.
  • A continuous grip for pumping and freestyle manoeuvres.
  • A particularly natural feel if you have a windsurfing background.

See the Duotone Fusion Boom and select the correct length for your wing size.

Duotone Unit 2027 Fusion compatibility

Unit Size Fusion Boom Fusion Handles
2.0m Fusion Boom S – 72cm Boom specified
2.5m Fusion Boom M – 84cm Fusion Handles M
3.0m Fusion Boom M – 84cm Fusion Handles M
3.5m – 6.5m Fusion Boom L – 96cm Fusion Handles L

This shared sizing is particularly useful when building a quiver. One compatible Fusion Boom L or Fusion Handle L set can be moved between Unit sizes from 3.5m through to 6.5m rather than purchasing another control system for every wing.

Duotone Unit 2027 size and wind range

The Unit 2027 is available in ten sizes from 2.0m² through to 6.5m², giving the range enough coverage for very strong wind through to light-wind freeride.

Size Published Wind Range Typical Role
2.0m 27–45 knots Very strong wind
2.5m 23–40 knots Strong-wind freeride and waves
3.0m 19–37 knots High-wind freeride and waves
3.5m 16–33 knots Windy freeride / lighter riders
4.0m 14–30 knots Medium to high wind
4.5m 12–28 knots Core all-round quiver size
5.0m 10–25 knots General freeride
5.5m 9–22 knots Moderate to lighter wind
6.0m 8–20 knots Light-wind freeride
6.5m 7–18 knots Maximum low-end coverage

The published wind ranges are a useful comparison tool rather than an exact sizing guarantee. Rider weight, foil size, foil efficiency, board shape, water state, ability and pumping technique can all materially change the usable range.

How to choose the right Duotone Unit size

Wing size should be considered as part of the complete foil setup rather than in isolation. A rider using an efficient mid-length board and larger front foil can often get flying with considerably less wing power than the same rider on a compact board and small performance foil.

When choosing your size, consider:

  • Your body weight: heavier riders generally need more wing area than lighter riders in the same conditions.
  • Your normal wind: choose for the wind you actually ride rather than an occasional forecast.
  • Your front foil: larger and lower-stalling foils require less power to achieve flight.
  • Your board: longer, narrower and more efficient boards create speed more easily before take-off.
  • Your ability: effective wing and board pumping can substantially improve the low end.
  • Your water state: chop, waves, current and tidal flow can all affect the practical range.
  • Your existing quiver: choose neighbouring sizes with useful overlap rather than effectively duplicating the same wind range.

If you are unsure, contact The SUP Company with your weight, board, foil, experience level and usual riding location and we can help narrow the size down around your complete setup.

Duotone Unit 2027 vs Unit SLS 2027 vs Unit D/LAB 2027

One of the biggest buying decisions is not simply which size to choose, but which Unit construction makes sense for your riding. The 2027 range gives you three main performance levels plus the SLS Concept Blue option.

Model Construction Riding Character Best For
Unit 2027 Original construction Smooth, forgiving and predictable All riding levels and everyday all-round use
Unit SLS 2027 135g PentaTX frame with 82g Aluula Gold centre panel Stiffer, lighter, more powerful and more direct Regular and ambitious riders wanting a clear performance upgrade
Unit SLS Concept Blue 2027 SLS construction with Concept Blue undyed material approach SLS responsiveness and efficiency Riders wanting Unit SLS performance with the Concept Blue construction
Unit D/LAB 2027 Full 82g Aluula Gold frame Lightest, stiffest, fastest and most immediate Experienced riders prioritising maximum performance

Duotone Unit 2027 – best for the widest range of riders

The standard Unit offers the most accessible combination of performance, comfort, durability and price. The Original frame has more forgiving flex, helping it absorb gusts and reducing how demanding the wing feels during longer sessions.

This is the version we would start with for the majority of riders unless there is a specific reason to move into one of the premium constructions.

Duotone Unit SLS 2027 – the performance sweet spot

The Unit SLS 2027 uses a lightweight and stiff 135g PentaTX frame with an 82g Aluula Gold centre panel. Duotone retains the same leading-edge diameter as the Original Unit but significantly increases structural stiffness and responsiveness.

The result is stronger base grunt, improved low-end drive and a more immediate connection between wing and rider. If you already foil confidently and can feel the difference between a softer and stiffer wing, SLS is likely to be the most logical performance upgrade.

Duotone Unit SLS Concept Blue 2027

The Unit SLS Concept Blue 2027 carries the same SLS performance philosophy but incorporates Duotone's Concept Blue material approach and distinctive undyed C03 finish.

Choose it if you want the responsiveness, control and efficiency of the SLS platform while specifically preferring the Concept Blue construction and appearance.

Duotone Unit D/LAB 2027 – maximum performance

The Unit D/LAB 2027 moves to a full 82g Aluula Gold frame and reduces the leading-edge diameter compared with the Original and SLS versions.

The smaller leading edge reduces drag and helps increase speed, while the extremely stiff Aluula frame produces instant power transfer and the most direct response in the Unit family.

D/LAB makes most sense when minimum weight, maximum acceleration and structural response are higher priorities than price. The performance advantage is particularly noticeable in medium and larger wing sizes, where frame weight has an increasingly significant influence on handling.

The D/LAB size range begins at 3.5m, so riders needing a 2.0m, 2.5m or 3.0m Unit should look towards the Original or Unit SLS 2027.

Which 2027 Unit should you buy?

  • Choose the Unit 2027 if you want the best balance of performance, comfort, durability and value.
  • Choose the Unit SLS 2027 if you already ride regularly and want less weight, more stiffness, stronger low-end drive and a more direct feel.
  • Choose the Unit SLS Concept Blue 2027 if you want the SLS performance level with Duotone's Concept Blue material treatment.
  • Choose the Unit D/LAB 2027 if you want the lightest, stiffest and highest-performance Unit available.

Which 2027 Duotone foil board pairs with the Unit?

Wing choice is only one part of the setup. The board has a major influence on how easily you generate speed, how early you release onto foil and how the complete setup feels once flying. The 2027 Duotone board range provides several very different directions depending on your priorities.

Duotone Sky Style 2027 – accessible all-round and freestyle pairing

The Duotone Sky Style 2027 is the natural option if you want a conventional compact wing foil board with a strong mix of freestyle and everyday freeride performance.

Its new step tail improves release onto foil and re-pop, while the compact outline keeps swing weight low. The wide nose and tail add useful stability for take-off and landings. Available in 75L, 85L and 95L, it is particularly relevant to progressing and intermediate riders who want a responsive board without moving into premium SLS construction.

Duotone Sky Style SLS 2027 – performance freestyle and freeride

If you want the same general direction with a broader size range and a lighter, stiffer Biax Carbon construction, look at the Duotone Sky Style SLS 2027.

The Sky Style SLS combines the new step tail with a compact outline, high rocker, Carbon foil tracks and a cork shock absorber in the heel area. It is the stronger pairing for riders progressing into bigger jumps, more technical freestyle and high-performance freeride.

Duotone Skybrid SLS 2027 – early take-off and efficient freeride

The Duotone Skybrid SLS 2027 takes a different approach. Its mid-length shape is longer and narrower than a conventional wing board, helping it build speed and release onto foil with less wing power.

For riders interested in lighter wind, efficient freeride, easier take-offs or crossing over into freefly and parawing, it makes an excellent match with the Unit. The 2027 Skybrid SLS also uses increased rounded rail bevels, a lower rail apex, wider stance area and diamond tail to balance early release with stability and control.

This pairing can be particularly effective if you want to extend your usable wind range without simply buying an ever-larger wing.

Duotone Trace SLS 2027 – advanced wave pairing

If your Unit will spend much of its time in waves, the Duotone Trace SLS 2027 is the specialist board to look at.

The Trace SLS uses a pointier nose, narrower outline, high-apex bevelled rails, narrow bottom and step tail to maximise clearance and manoeuvrability in turns. It is aimed at advanced wing foilers looking for a more surf-inspired board rather than riders prioritising maximum stability.

Quick 2027 board choice

Board Best Match Why Pair It With The Unit?
Sky Style 2027 Progression / freeride / freestyle Accessible compact board with stable take-offs and strong manoeuvre potential.
Sky Style SLS 2027 Performance freeride / freestyle Lower swing weight, premium Carbon construction and strong jumping performance.
Skybrid SLS 2027 Light-wind freeride / freefly / crossover More glide and earlier release can reduce the wing power required to take off.
Trace SLS 2027 Advanced waves Surf-oriented shape with maximum turning clearance and reduced swing weight.

You can also browse our complete foil board collection if you are comparing the Duotone options with other brands and board shapes.

Who is the Duotone Unit 2027 best for?

  • Progressing wing foilers investing in a quality wing they will not quickly outgrow.
  • Intermediate riders improving gybes, tacks and transitions.
  • Freeriders wanting smooth and predictable power in variable conditions.
  • Riders looking for one wing platform for flat water, chop, swell and waves.
  • Wing foilers beginning to jump and progress into freestyle.
  • Wave riders who still want excellent powered freeride performance.
  • Experienced riders who value comfort and durability over chasing minimum possible weight.
  • Anyone building a multi-wing quiver and wanting consistent behaviour from 2.0m to 6.5m.

Who may prefer another Unit?

If you already foil confidently and your priority is greater frame stiffness, lower weight and a more immediate response, move up to the Duotone Unit SLS 2027.

If you like the SLS performance level but specifically want Duotone's undyed Concept Blue construction, choose the Duotone Unit SLS Concept Blue 2027.

If your priority is outright performance and budget comes second to minimum weight, low drag and maximum stiffness, look at the Duotone Unit D/LAB 2027.

Complete your Duotone Unit 2027 setup

The Unit works best when the complete wing, board and foil combination is matched around your weight, ability and local conditions rather than each component being chosen independently.

1. Add your Fusion control system

  • Duotone Fusion Boom – continuous Carbon control surface with freedom to move your hands anywhere along the boom.
  • Duotone Fusion Handle Set – ergonomic Carbon handles with defined hand positions and compact packing.

2. Choose the board around how you want to ride

3. Match the foil to your ability and wind range

Foil choice has a major effect on how much power you need from the Unit. A larger and lower-stalling front wing can substantially improve the low end of a moderate-sized wing, while a smaller performance foil usually requires more board speed before take-off.

Browse our foils and hydrofoils if you are building a complete setup or upgrading your existing foil.

4. Protect the setup

A good foil board bag is worth adding when you are transporting a hard board, particularly once you move into lighter Carbon constructions. Browse our foil board bags and foil accessories for protection, mounting hardware and useful spares.

Duotone Unit 2027 FAQs

Is the Duotone Unit 2027 suitable for beginners?

Yes. It is capable of high-level riding, but the smooth power delivery and forgiving Original construction make it accessible. It is particularly suitable for a progressing beginner who wants a quality wing that will remain useful as they learn sustained foiling, gybes, tacks, waves and jumping.

What is the biggest change to the Duotone Unit for 2027?

The shorter strut is the most obvious change. It reduces swing weight and creates a more compact feel. Duotone has also revised profile distribution, canopy tension and tip twist, updated the window layout and increased the proportion of MOD3 S canopy material.

What does the shorter strut change on the water?

There is less wing mass to move around your hands. This makes repositioning easier during gybes and tacks, reduces the cumbersome feeling during rotations and helps the wing feel lighter when freeflying or surfing.

Is the Unit 2027 good in gusty UK conditions?

Yes. The compact geometry improves control through changing wind, while the Original construction has more forgiving structural flex than the stiffer SLS and D/LAB versions. This makes it a strong choice for variable coastal conditions.

Does the Duotone Unit 2027 include handles or a boom?

No. Duotone supplies the 2027 Unit without handles or boom. You need to choose the appropriate Duotone Fusion Handles or Duotone Fusion Boom separately.

Which Fusion Boom fits the Duotone Unit 2027?

The 2.0m Unit uses the Fusion Boom S 72cm. The 2.5m and 3.0m use the Fusion Boom M 84cm. Sizes from 3.5m through to 6.5m use the Fusion Boom L 96cm.

Which Fusion Handles fit the Unit 2027?

The 2.5m and 3.0m use Fusion Handles M. Sizes from 3.5m through to 6.5m use Fusion Handles L. Duotone specifies the Fusion Boom S for the 2.0m.

Should I choose Fusion Handles or Fusion Boom?

Choose Fusion Handles if you prefer defined hand positions, compact packing and the familiar feel of separate handles. Choose the Fusion Boom if you want to slide your hands freely and grab anywhere along the control surface. The boom is particularly intuitive through gybes, tacks and freestyle manoeuvres.

Can I use one Fusion Boom on several Unit sizes?

Yes, provided those wings use the same boom length. For example, every Unit from 3.5m through to 6.5m uses the Fusion Boom L 96cm, allowing the same compatible boom to be moved between those wings.

What is MOD3 S?

MOD3 S is Duotone's performance canopy material. It is specified at approximately 69g/m² compared with 87g/m² for MOD3 and is designed to minimise stretch under load. This supports draft stability, smooth power delivery, a cleaner powered canopy and strong top-end control.

Is the Duotone Unit 2027 good for wave riding?

Yes. The refined profile improves flagging stability, while the shorter strut reduces swing weight and the wide leading-edge handle gives secure control when the wing is depowered. It makes particular sense for riders who want to combine waves with normal freeride rather than owning a wave-only wing.

What is the difference between the Unit 2027 and Unit SLS 2027?

The standard Unit uses the more forgiving Original construction and offers the best balance of comfort, durability, accessibility and price. The Unit SLS 2027 uses PentaTX with an Aluula Gold centre panel to reduce weight and increase stiffness, low-end drive and direct response.

What is the Unit SLS Concept Blue 2027?

The Unit SLS Concept Blue 2027 takes the SLS performance platform and combines it with Duotone's Concept Blue material approach and undyed C03 finish. It is the choice for riders who specifically want SLS-level responsiveness in the Concept Blue construction.

What is the difference between the Unit 2027 and Unit D/LAB 2027?

The Unit D/LAB 2027 uses a full 82g Aluula Gold frame and a reduced leading-edge diameter for lower drag, reduced weight, greater stiffness and the most immediate response in the Unit range. The standard Unit is more forgiving and offers the stronger performance-to-cost balance for most riders.

Which 2027 board should I pair with the Unit?

Choose the Sky Style 2027 for accessible compact freeride and freestyle, the Sky Style SLS 2027 for higher-performance freestyle and jumping, the Skybrid SLS 2027 for more glide and earlier take-offs, or the Trace SLS 2027 for advanced wave-focused riding.

What size Duotone Unit should I buy?

The right size depends on your body weight, normal wind range, board, front foil, ability and local conditions. The published wind range is an excellent comparison guide but should not be treated as an exact sizing calculator. Contact us with your setup and riding details if you would like help choosing a single wing or planning a complete quiver.

Can the Duotone Unit be my only wing?

Yes, if your normal local wind falls comfortably within one Unit's practical range. The broad freeride, freestyle and wave ability makes the Unit particularly good as a one-wing solution. Riders dealing with a much wider spread of wind strengths will naturally gain more water time from a two or three-wing quiver.

The SUP Company verdict

The strongest argument for the Duotone Unit 2027 is not one headline feature. It is the absence of a major weakness that you have to work around.

There is useful low-end power without the wing becoming difficult when the wind increases. The handling is compact enough for freestyle without feeling nervous during normal freeride. The wing flags well enough for proper swell and wave riding but still provides the drive needed for everyday powered sessions. The Fusion system gives you a genuine choice between handles and boom, and the Original construction retains enough forgiveness to work particularly well in inconsistent wind.

The shorter 2027 strut sharpens the handling further, while the refined profile, optimised canopy tension and increased MOD3 S usage improve efficiency, response and stability. For riders who simply want the most versatile construction rather than automatically choosing the lightest or most expensive version, the standard Unit 2027 is the natural starting point in the range.

If you want a more performance-focused feel, move to the Duotone Unit SLS 2027 or Unit SLS Concept Blue 2027. If outright performance is the priority, compare the Unit D/LAB 2027.

For a complete setup, pair the wing with the Sky Style 2027, Sky Style SLS 2027, Skybrid SLS 2027 or Trace SLS 2027 according to your riding style, then add the correct Fusion Boom or Fusion Handles.

Alternatively, browse the complete Duotone Wing & Foil range or contact The SUP Company with your weight, ability, normal conditions and current foil setup and we can help build the complete system around how you actually ride.
